Chapter 237: Greyback's End

Chapter 237: Greyback's End

"He's a liar! Just like those wizards who sell potions to us!" roared a man with sparse hair and dirty body.

"No! Lupin is one of us, he is a werewolf." Another woman retorted loudly. There were many horrible scars on her face, which made people wonder what kind of terrible monster left those scars.

This is a very small werewolf community, with less than twenty people. Such groups are not uncommon in the UK, but usually no wizard will take the initiative to find them, except for those with ill intentions.

Lupin was wearing his new robe, standing in the mud with rotten leaves and excrement. It was not that his compatriots intended to humiliate him, because they themselves also made a living in the mud.

"I'm telling the truth!" Lupin said sincerely, "The lycanthropy curse can be cured."

"Look!" the man with the pathetic hair shouted sarcastically, "Lycosis curse! He doesn't even want to admit that he is a werewolf!"

"Many people do think this is a disease!" The scarred woman pushed the bald man hard, "You can't fool yourself! Apart from injuries and death, Greyback has not brought me a better life!"

“How dare you! Olivia!” The bald man who fell to the ground due to the push of the scarred girl Olivia roared, “A group of werewolves deserve a better life? Only if all the others become us! Life will be better! Even if not! Then let them taste hell!”

“Ignore that idiot!” The scarred girl Olivia kicked in the mud, and many pieces of mud splashed everywhere with her movement, and some even fell into the bald man’s mouth which was wide open due to his roar.

The bald man started coughing violently, with snot, tears and saliva flowing out.

"You deserve it!" Seeing this, Olivia laughed. She noticed the other werewolves gathering around her, then turned to look at Lupin, "Tell me about the cure, Lupin. What do we need to pay?"

"It's a magical ritual," Lupin said sincerely, "which requires a full moon, aconite, two special magic props, and a ritual site in the Forbidden Forest of Hogwarts. Once this magical ritual is completed, the contagiousness of the lycanthus curse can be eliminated."

"What did I hear? Magic? In the werewolf's territory?" A crazy and violent voice sounded in the distance.

Lupin looked back and saw a rough and savage man. His skin was as rough as that of other werewolves, and his wrinkles were full of dirt. His beard and hair were messy, and he had more scars on his face than Olivia. The pair of small eyes hidden in the deep eye sockets were gleaming fiercely at Lupin.

There was no way Lupin could forget this face; it belonged to Fenrir Greyback, the most notorious werewolf ever.

"Long time no see, Greyback," Lupin greeted casually.

"I remember you! Lupin?" Greyback showed his yellow teeth, which were full of gaps. "The werewolf who went to school at Hogwarts! What did Dumbledore teach you? To wield a stick?"

"I'm warning you, Lupin!" Greyback's long tongue stuck out of his mouth and licked his cracked lips. "You are Dumbledore's lackey! The werewolf is mine! Do not try to deceive my compatriots with empty lies! Magic can't save us! Wizards are all liars!"

"So what have you done, Greyback?" Olivia was not afraid of this cruel guy at all. "Besides attacking other wizard children and eating a Muggle or two during the full moon, what have you done to help us change our current situation?"

"Isn't that enough?" Greyback spread his arms, trying to make his words more convincing. "Blood and blood belong to werewolves! When all wizards become werewolves, there will be a place for us under the sun!"

Every werewolf who met his gaze lowered their heads. These people living in the mud had no hope at all. Even when verbally abused by Greyback, who was also a werewolf, no one would resist.

Greyback was very satisfied with this situation. He said fiercely to Olivia who had refuted him before: "You are too presumptuous! Olivia! Who do you think you are? You are just a bitch rolling in the mud! If it weren't for me, your situation would be even worse than it is now! If you can't control your mouth, I'll tear it off for you! Anyway, your face won't get uglier if you lose it."

Greyback thought he had told a great joke and laughed to himself, and the werewolf who had followed him into the camp laughed along.

Olivia was furious, and the scars on her face turned dark red, like worms twisting on her face. "Do you think I'm afraid of you? You're just a stray dog. You're just following the wizard to beg for some leftovers, and you think you're the wizard's master! Even a green-headed fly lying on dog shit is nobler than you!"

Olivia's words made Greyback furious. He opened his hands, showing his specially sharpened black nails, and rushed towards Olivia with his yellow teeth bared.

"Stay away from her! Greyback!" Lupin drew out his cypress wand and pulled Olivia in front of him behind him.

"What a poor little stick!" Greyback said, but he still stopped and stared at the wand in Lupin's hand, afraid that it would flash green light. "You have never been one of us! Lupin! You are not even a wizard! It's hard for you to be caught in the middle? Why don't you throw it away and let's have a fair duel?"

Lupin smiled. "I never thought of throwing away my wand. But even if I didn't use it, you'd be no match for me, Greyback."

"Why not show us?" Greyback circled around Lupin, trying his best to imitate a wolf, or rather, a werewolf after transformation.

Lupin looked at Greyback, who was facing a formidable enemy, and pinched the end of the wand with two fingers, and put it in his chest pocket, looking completely defenseless.

The vicious werewolf was waiting for this moment. He pounced suddenly and quickly approached Lupin amid Olivia's scream.

Greyback had already thought about what to do after he had Lupin under his feet. Killing him would obviously be a waste. He was one of the few werewolves who had received a complete wizarding education. If he could find a way to make him work for him...

Before the delusion in his mind became a reality, Greyback was horrified to find that Lupin in front of him had become different. Thick hair sprouted from every corner of his body, his mouth protruded forward, and his alert ears stood up. It was the transformation into a werewolf.

As a werewolf who never gave up an opportunity to transform, Greyback had never seen other werewolves transform while awake, so he was confused about Lupin's situation for a moment.

It was not until Lupin's hand, which was bigger than his head, pinched his neck that Greyback came to his senses. "This is the result of the cure!" The gray werewolf Lupin's voice sounded like thunder in summer, ringing above the heads of everyone in the werewolf camp. "The lycanthropy curse will no longer be transmitted to others through my saliva, but that doesn't mean it has disappeared! On the contrary! It has become my talent, my strength!"

"Complete the full moon ceremony with me, and all werewolves will have the right to walk in the sun!" Lupin announced loudly, "You are all my brothers and sisters! We will become real werewolves independent of wizards! And no longer a group of pitiful infected people who need to hate themselves!"

"But before that, I have to make peace with Greyback." Lupin looked at Greyback in his hand, "Newborn werewolves don't need criminals who only attack children and Muggles!"

Greyback's plea for mercy was stuck in his throat, and Lupin just exerted a little force, and there was a tooth-grinding cracking sound in his neck. Lupin loosened his wolf claws, and Greyback's body fell into the mud like a broken sack.

The other werewolves in the camp did not look at Greyback on the ground, but gathered around Lupin in fascination, reaching out to touch his gray fur.

"Will we be like you?" Olivia's eyes were filled with tears, and she stroked the fluff on Lupin's arm with her hand.

"Majestic... powerful..." said another man with a pale face, "You don't look like a monster, but a majestic king..."

"Can we really win equality with wizards?" a voice whispered, "They have wands... we only have claws and teeth..."

"We have magic too." Lupin's robes grew larger with him, and were not torn by the sudden increase in height and width. He took out his wand from his breast pocket, pointed it at Greyback on the ground, and said loudly, "Disappear."

Greyback's slumped body vanished without warning, not even a puff of smoke. The Vanishing Charm is an advanced application of Transfiguration that can turn animate or inanimate objects into nothingness, or in other words, into everything.

As for the objects that the Vanishing Spell can be applied to, it is more difficult to make living objects disappear than inanimate objects, complex life structures are more difficult than simple ones, and magical ones are more difficult than non-magical ones.

Although Greyback had just lost his life, he was no less complicated, not to mention that he was a wizard suffering from the curse of lycanthropy, which made him a little more complicated than an ordinary wizard.

Lupin's three friends at school were all able to perform Animagus, and his own Transfiguration was not weak after being influenced by them, but he was able to do it with ease like he just did after undergoing the Full Moon Ceremony. The ritual magic that determined his own form gave him a new understanding of the profound subject of Transfiguration.

Although the werewolves surrounding Lupin had not received much magic education, they were in awe of magic from the bottom of their hearts. When they saw Lupin waving his wand as a werewolf, their eyes were full of longing.

"I'll go with you!" Olivia was the first to speak. "I'll go now! There's nothing good about staying in this mud hole for me. I want to embrace a new life!"

The other people in the werewolf camp also shouted in unison, each of them was filled with enthusiasm, and they couldn't wait to welcome the werewolf moon.

----

When Ivy saw Lupin again at the Hog's Head, he was standing next to a woman wrapped in a black cloth.

In the hot summer of July, it is rare to see people dressed like this.

"Is it him, Remus?" The hoarse female voice revealed strong suspicion.

"Have a seat and have a drink, Professor Lupin," Ivy invited. "Bartender, two butterbeers. You look tired, would you like anything to eat, bartender?"

Aberforth read out the menu in his usual gruff voice: "Salted fish sandwiches, fried egg sandwiches, bacon sandwiches and bacon sandwiches. We do not serve any kind of soup."

"Uh..." Ivy didn't expect the menu at the Hog's Head Bar to be so monotonous, so he said, "Then let's have one of each."

Aberforth wrote something in the notebook with a feather pen, glared at Ivy and went to the kitchen. After a while, the sound of a kitchen knife colliding with a chopping board was heard.

"Sit down, Olivia." Lupin took the lead and pulled the wooden stool next to Ivy and sat down. "He is our benefactor, all of us."

The woman called Olivia said nothing more and sat down at the bar, just as Aberforth brought out the sandwiches.

The woman put the plates in front of her one by one, smelled them, and took a bite of the one with bacon.

Ivy finally understood why Aberforth glared at him before preparing the sandwich, because the lazy old man would rather he order just one type instead of all types of sandwiches.

Olivia looked like she had never eaten normal food. The sandwiches at the Hog's Head Pub didn't look very good. They were made with bread mixed with a lot of rye flour, and the edges of the bread were not cut off. However, there were plenty of sauces. Of course, it was not on the same level as the food produced by the Hogwarts house-elves' kitchen, but this woman with scars all over her face still enjoyed the food and finished the whole sandwich in two bites.

She took two more sips of butter beer, put down the cup, and began to try to feed Lupin. The former Defense Against the Dark Arts professor of Hogwarts did not refuse, took the salted fish sandwich in his hand, and asked in a low voice: "...Are you ready? Our people have set up a simple camp at the other end of the forest..."

"Just tell them the precautions. I've already said hello to Dumbledore and the centaurs in the Forbidden Forest." Ivy pushed the remaining two plates of sandwiches toward them and picked up her own butterbeer.

"The full moon will be in two days. The necklace..." Lupin relaxed a little and continued asking.

"I used another method instead of the necklace. As the first real werewolf, you must also join this full moon ceremony. I will connect your spirits together, and you need to constantly remind them who they are..." Ivy wiped the foam from the corner of his mouth, "If someone loses himself in the primitive animal nature... you have a great responsibility, Professor Lupin."
