Chapter 267: News from Gandalf
Chapter 267: News from Gandalf (400010000)
Thunder exploded in the Black Forest, and the elves watching cheered. Even though they had witnessed Ivy's methods more than once, they still found it difficult to suppress their excitement when they saw someone being able to release thunder and lightning from the top of a wooden staff.
"I really want to know how you did it, wizard!" Legolas put the cedar bow back on his back and jumped from the tree to Ivy's side. "Lightning, fire, thunder and ice! Is there anything you can't do?"
"Moving on the trees like an elf?" Ivy conjured up some clean water and washed away the spider body tissue fluid that was stained on the Beast Bite Sword.
Hearing this, the woodland elves all laughed. With Ivy's high charisma, he quickly became friends with these elves, not to mention that they had fought side by side for a whole day.
"Honestly, wizard, can I learn some of your magic? As long as it can make my weapon burn with fire." What Legolas envied most was not the elemental magic released by Ivy through the staff, but the arcane power that could enchant the Beast Bite Sword.
"This requires long-term study and talent," Ivy said seriously.
"Well, I did hear that you spent a lot of time in the library on your first day in the woodland kingdom." The light in Legolas' eyes dimmed, and he pulled his arrow out of the big spider curled up on the ground, trying to make himself look less concerned about magic.
"But it's not necessary to learn magic to make weapons gain magical powers." Ivy turned things around. Using criticism before praising always increases persuasiveness.
Legolas turned around quickly, his tone unable to hide his happiness: "Really?"
"I can make some magic items. Using them does not require too much knowledge, you just need to master the tricks." Ivy put the staff on the saddle hook of Golden Horn. "Golden Horn's horseshoe is made by myself. It can move forward on water or magma. I know a kind of magic that can attach different elemental powers to your arrows. If you are interested, I can attach this magic to a ring as a testimony of friendship with the woodland elves and give it to you, Legolas."
"Really, wizard?" Legolas was so surprised that he was a little incoherent. "I mean, wouldn't this be too much trouble for you?"
"King Thranduil has treated me so generously, this is just a small token of my appreciation. I will stay in the Woodland Kingdom for a while..." Ivy stopped talking halfway because he sensed the power of teleportation, which was a magic attached to the opal ring he gave to Gandalf. It could only be used once, and once triggered, Ivy could receive the message no matter how far away he was.
"What's wrong, wizard?" Legolas' eyes were very sharp and he immediately noticed the subtle changes in Ivy's expression.
"I'm afraid I can't continue to enjoy my comfort in the Woodland Kingdom. Gandalf, who went to Dol Guldur to investigate the Necromancer, was attacked, and I must rush to help him. I will rest in the Woodland Kingdom tonight, and set out at dawn tomorrow." Ivy thought about it. When cleaning spiders in the Black Forest today, some spell slots had been used up. Therefore, Ivy could not rush to rescue Gandalf without recovering his spellcasting power.
Besides, the White Council should be the first person responsible for this matter. Ivy must find a way to pass the message to them. Galadriel of Lothlorien is closest to Dol Guldur and she is the most likely to arrive in time.
"Wizard's magic? Right? We should hurry back to my father's palace. Maybe he will agree to send troops to help us." Without waiting for Ivy to answer, Legolas ordered the elves around him, "Everyone, force a march back!"
Not a single elf showed any doubt. They quickly gathered their formation, counted their weapons and arrows, and set out on their return journey.
"That's not necessary, Legolas. I will try to inform the rest of the White Council. If the Grey Wizard Gandalf is frustrated in Dol Guldur, it will prove that the darkness entrenched there is definitely something that ordinary soldiers can resist." Ivy jumped onto the broad back of the Golden Horn. "It's just that the magic ring I promised may be a little later."
"Elves always have time, and we have always been patient." Legolas smiled and set out on the return journey with Ivy. ————
After returning to the Woodland Kingdom, Ivy met the Master Thief again in her room as expected. It seemed that Bilbo had not figured out how to transport Thorin and the others out for the time being.
Seeing Ivy coming back, Bilbo's eyes lit up and he hurried to greet her: "I have already visited the kingdom of the elves today! I have to say, although they are all elves, they are very different from their relatives in Rivendell!"
Ivy interrupted the hobbit's thoughts on the tour and asked, "How's the escape plan going?"
"Oh, oh! I've almost figured it out, but the elves are very strict in guarding the prison. I have to find a suitable time to act, otherwise the dwarves will be thrown back in before they even step out of the cell. Perhaps, wizard, you can give me a little, small, magical help?"
"Like?" Ivy asked with interest.
"Like the magic that made Gollum fall asleep?" Bilbo answered, rubbing his hands. "Oh, Gollum is the guy we met in the goblin tunnels! Because his voice was always 'Gulu...Gulu...', so I called him Gollum."
"Ah, sleep magic, it's indeed a good idea to let the guards fall asleep." Ivy nodded in approval and snapped his fingers lightly.
After a burst of magical light, the Grimoire of Destruction appeared in Ivy's hand. He tore off a blank page of paper from it and directed the wizard's pen to dance quickly.
After a while, a fresh scroll of sleeping spell was ready.
"This is amazing! A quill that can write by itself!" Bilbo's eyes sparkled. "I have always wanted to record my adventures after returning to Bag End. If I had such a magical quill... well... I haven't said anything!... How should I use this piece of paper?"
Bilbo took the scroll of sleep and checked the thin paper over and over again, fearing that it would be torn in two if he exerted a little force.
"Aim at your target and rip it apart," Ivy said easily.
"... so simple? ... nothing more? Like chanting a spell or making a gesture or something?" asked the hobbit doubtfully.
"You are talking about the steps I need to take when casting a spell. I have already stored the magic you need inside, so you only need to aim at the target and tear it open. But you must remember that the effect of the spell may not last too long, so you must act quickly." Ivy instructed, "Also, I will leave here tomorrow to help Gandalf. Say goodbye to Thorin and the others for me, okay?"
"Leave it to me!" Bilbo assured, patting his chest. "Honestly, wizard, I've begun to like adventure!"
"Ah, I understand. Magic and stories, right?" Ivy could see that the smile on Bilbo's face was sincere. This was also the reason why he was keen on role-playing games before he traveled through time. Of course, there was another reason he didn't mention - harming his teammates.
