Chapter 614 Crossing the Two Realms
Chapter 614 Interdimensional Travel
"Still can't get in touch with Xiao Kun?" In the laboratory approved by the school of Strelheim, Kemina's figure appeared in front of Ivy with a flash of lightning, and the first thing she did was ask the core question.
Ivy shook her head: "Either he's too far away from us, or the magical tattoo I left behind was damaged during the time travel. In any case, I can't sense his presence for the time being. What about you?"
Planeswalkers' time travel is not without a trace. Skilled Planeswalkers can trace the aetheric pathways left when the spark is activated, then follow these pathways to track their targets and arrive in the same world.
Unfortunately, the little elephant Kuntori Kant ignited the spark at the archaeological excavation site of Hengjian Academy. The Etheric Path had already been constructed at that time, but he himself was trapped in the Akevivo spacetime, which prevented him from completing the journey immediately.
Later, Ivy temporarily sealed his body with a binding spell, making the etheric pathways left by Spark even more difficult to discern. Now that Little Elephant has suddenly completed time travel, the clues he left in the laboratory are extremely limited. Kmina traveled through several worlds following these clues, but still found nothing.
She shook her head, her bright blue eyes filled with sorrow: "He's just a child, an inexperienced Planeswalker. Heaven knows how long it will take him to find his way home..."
“If he can master the power to travel through time using the Spark, that would be a good thing for us,” Ivy reassured him. “As long as the magical tattoo I left behind is still effective, traveling through time could leave enough fluctuations to traverse the Dark Void. When these fluctuations are strong enough and numerous enough, I can find him. Until then, we can only trust that he can handle everything in the new world.”
“So Planeswalkers are practically unplanned creatures.” Kmina nodded slightly, then suddenly gave a helpless smile. “Now I finally have a new understanding of that statement.”
“Then you can write it down in your lesson plan as a piece of advice for your future students,” Ivy suggested. “Think about it, your future students will all be mages with an off-the-charts level of unpredictability, super strong action, and a love for joining in the fun. If you don’t instill a sense of awe in them, they might run into a brick wall one day.”
"When?" Kemina laughed, a bright laugh. "And how many people can catch a Planeswalker who's only thinking about escaping? Little Kun doesn't count, he's not mature enough."
“I don’t know, maybe even more powerful Planeswalkers?” Ivy shrugged. “Just like you might think about recruiting new Planeswalkers together for training, maybe other Planeswalkers might have the same idea and form a Planeswalker criminal alliance or something.”
Kmina's smile vanished. If such a criminal alliance truly existed, countless innocent lives would be harmed. Moreover, the scope would be vast; after all, Planeswalkers aren't like some world-native disasters, at most destroying one world. If a Planeswalker had the ability and influence, they could easily turn countless worlds into their playground.
“You make a good point… Perhaps I should also find out what the Planeswalker race is really like in the multiverse while I’m out recruiting students.” Kmina wasn’t particularly disappointed or frustrated. She had long been aware of the difficulties her goal would face, and the multiverse’s perception of the Planeswalkers was actually just a small part of the problem. After all, very few people can travel between worlds, and they usually don’t spread bad rumors about the Planeswalkers across worlds.
“I bet ‘responsibility’ is definitely not part of the Planeswalkers’ reputation.” Ivy clapped her hands, and the various instruments and scrolls floating in the hall began to return to their places.
"Why?" Kemina stepped aside from an ink bottle that was spinning and chasing ink droplets in the air, and pulled her hood back up.
“When there’s a way out of danger, not many people will choose to face difficulties and fight to the end.” Ivy flicked off non-existent dust from the corner of her clothes. “I’m going to have lunch and then prepare for this afternoon’s meeting. What about you?”
“I’ll stay with you for now until the supplies and personnel for the Faerlen Recruitment Office are all transported, then we’ll embark on our journey to find the apprentices.” Kemina rubbed her temples through her hood. “Damn it, I thought I could finally stop in Streihaven and get into the apprentice training phase! Who knew my future apprentice would run away! And run off to a place I can’t find at all!”
“I will commission the Institute of Quantification to research a machine that can expand my sensory range. If I’m not in Streihaven, you can come to my territory to find me.” Ivy walked towards the door, her destination being the Arch Tavern, where she would have some refreshing magical stew.
Kemina followed, muttering to herself, "Little Kun had better pray that you and I find him soon, otherwise his title as chief apprentice will be in jeopardy!"
"You have a new goal?" Ivy raised her eyebrows. According to what Kemina said last time, only one Ember is born out of about one in ten million souls, and only one out of ten million Embers awakens as a Planeswalker. And only one out of about ten Planeswalkers survives the unstable spacetime teleportation when the spark is first ignited.
Based on this probability, the chances of Kemina finding a new apprentice are very small.
“The multiverse is infinite. No matter how small the probability of me finding a new apprentice is, it still equals infinite when multiplied by infinity. So it’s certain that I will find a new apprentice.” The white owl that had been waiting outside the laboratory flew down from the roof and landed on Kmina’s shoulder, raising its sharp beak at Ivy on behalf of its owner. “I’m a student of the Quantitative Analysis Academy. I can calculate this probability clearly.”
"Considering you're the kind of guy who falls asleep in math class, I'll refrain from pointing out your logical fallacies." Ivy didn't even bother to look at this academic underachiever. "Tell me, what's the status of your apprenticeship candidate?"
“I think you’re just jealous of my intelligence.” Kemina, quite self-aware, didn’t continue the math topic, but instead talked about her new target, “a brother and sister, royalty from some world.”
"Brother and sister? Isn't the probability of twins both being Planeswalkers a bit too low? How could you run into one?" Ivy had another unspoken question. According to Earth's biological knowledge, so-called fraternal twins are fraternal twins, meaning they are embryos developed independently from two completely different fertilized eggs. Biologically, they are two completely different people, very different from identical twins who share the same genes. Therefore, the probability of both becoming Planeswalkers is about the same as the probability of Kmina randomly walking down the street and bumping into two newborn Planeswalkers in a row.
“They are not Planeswalkers yet, but embers lost on the path of life. If the threads of fate decide to make them puppets, then they may very well break through the barriers of the world.” Kmina recited a long string of mystical lines with the air of a wise man, then stopped solemnly in front of Ivy, awaiting his evaluation.
“Not bad.” Ivy nodded reluctantly. “You’d be suitable to be the leader of the Planeswalker Order. And then make those twins your left and right protectors.”
"What are the Left and Right Protectors?" Kemina asked.
“Another, less common way to describe a high priest is to think of them simply as the left and right hands,” Ivy explained, then asked, “What is the world like for the twins?” “A world overflowing with magic, filled with a fairytale atmosphere. The surface may appear calm, but beneath lies a turbulent undercurrent. If someone throws in a single pebble, the ripples will instantly transform into a raging torrent, engulfing the entire world,” Kmina maintained her wise demeanor, her words becoming increasingly convoluted.
"Planetary Walkers are the pebbles that can muddy the waters?" Ivy looked up at the star arch in front of her. The massive stone structure suspended in the campus seemed unchanged, but the tavern below it was much quieter. After all, it was another holiday in Striaven, and apart from a few professors who were keen on research, most of the local students had gone home. Besides the Dragon Guards who patrolled around Striaven from time to time, these students on holiday were also a means for Striaven to promote its influence.
"uh-huh."
Sigrún has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts as a part-time lecturer since and was Dean of the Department of Fine Art from -. In – she held a research position at Reykjavík Art Museum focusing on the role of women in Icelandic art. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.
The one assigned by Strychwen to take over the Baldur's Gate Mage Tower, also known as the Lamagis Tower, in Faerûn was a retired Grand Mage of the Lion Clan.
The Lion Clan, like the sun-fearing vampires and the honor- and battle-loving Elephant Clan, are among the intelligent races native to Akavievo. They too have the right to study magic at Stryhaven. The title of Archmage Retired is an honorary title in Stryhaven, referring to a powerful spellcaster who has served the academy for many years and retired with honor. They typically choose to wander throughout Akavievo, exploring the magical power of this unique spacetime to the ends of the earth.
Of course, they would also return to Strelhaven from time to time to share their experiences with the new students at the academy.
Flamemane Gibeck is such an honorary archmage of the Lion Clan.
He looked like an old lion, yet his flowing mane danced like a burning flame in the sunlight. The faded hair, due to his age, allowed the sunlight to filter through sparsely, enveloping him in a dazzling golden light.
“Master Gibeck.” Ivy nodded to the retired archmage. “You’ve arrived very early.”
“It really needs to be earlier.” The lazy old cat with its flowing fur yawned, its fangs, adorned with golden rings, reflecting a cold light under the two suns of Akavivo. “Ever since I heard I could be stationed permanently in the New World, I’ve been so excited I couldn’t sleep. I rushed back from the ends of the earth overnight. How’s your mage tower? Does it have a comfortable bed?”
"I'm afraid I'll need my apprentice to explain it to you. I only recently acquired that tower myself." Ivy had originally intended to temporarily entrust the Lamages Tower to Archmage Gale of Waterdeep, but he was eager to revert to his original form, so the task fell to Roland, the apprentice from Tifflin. Anyway, he had already thoroughly explored the tower under Lorokan's guidance, so this little bit of time wouldn't be a big deal.
"An apprentice?" The retired archmage showed a hint of interest, his droopy eyelids opening slightly. "Not planning to come to Stryhaven for education?"
“It is precisely because he is my apprentice that he must come to Streihaven for education,” Ivy emphasized. “However, they do not accept students who are too young, so I need to find a good place for my other apprentice.”
"For those exceptionally talented individuals, the school can be lenient. Didn't the Quantitative Analysis Department accept a thirteen-year-old last year?" Old Cat smiled, but his overly relaxed face made it look like he was making a face. "Do you need me to pull some strings for you?"
“She’s only eight years old this year.” Ivy politely declined. The retired archmage in front of her was from Silverhaw Academy, which was not really a good match for Alabel’s talent. “She is at a time when her mind is still unsettled. It would probably not be very beneficial for her to accept the philosophy of Strelheim too early.”
"Showing enough talent at eight years old?" The old cat scratched his chin nonchalantly and shook his half-bald tail that peeked out from his mage's robe. "He is indeed a genius."
The two people standing in the central square fell silent, watching as the school's utilities department piled up supplies bit by bit in front of the Maodian Pavilion. These were all items to be transported to Morningstar City via Ivy's interdimensional portal. Yesterday afternoon's meeting had gone smoothly; everyone involved was filled with enthusiasm for exploring a new world.
However, this activity has been temporarily designated as a special study tour for the college and will only be held during this holiday. It will take time to make it a regular event.
After the study tour concludes, Flamemane Gibeck will remain stationed at Lamagis Tower to coordinate exchanges between Strathaiven and other magic academies in Faerûn.
Currently, the only institution Ivy has reached a verbal agreement with is the Black Staff Academy in Waterdeep, coordinated by Archmage Gale of Waterdeep. Silvermoon University, also within the Lords' Alliance's sphere of influence, is also in contact, though they seem quite wary. After all, Ivy only mentioned this matter briefly to the master from Silvermoon City.
"The last relic grinder is also here. You may begin casting your spell, Professor Doom." Student counselor Mavenda approached Ivy with the list, announcing in her clear, melodious voice that the personnel and supplies were officially assembled.
To mine mithril and other metallic minerals in Twilight Star City, Ivy specifically requested a batch of Ruin Grinding Golems from the academy. These were golems used by Hengjian Academy for archaeological excavations. However, at Ivy's request, they were equipped with more powerful and robust drills and hammers, since he was digging for metallic ore, not fragile historical artifacts.
“Very good.” Ivy slammed the mithril staff into the ground, and multicolored rainbow light was emitted from the huge gem at the top of the staff, forming a huge rainbow portal in the square in front of the Modian Pavilion.
“A ninth-circle magical portal to another world.” The retired archmage Gibeck nodded repeatedly. “Not many mages can master this spell, let alone make it this large. How long will it last? Should I cast an acceleration spell on these people?”
“All day,” Ivy replied briefly, then waved her staff, guiding the dragon guards at the front of the group to set off.
