Chapter 72: Hagrid's Hut
Chapter 72: Hagrid's Hut
"Bang, bang, bang!" Ivy knocked on the wooden door of Hagrid's hut with his fists. On the first day of the new term at Hogwarts, he sneaked into the Forbidden Forest to harass the giant acromantula. After killing several giant acromantula as big as pack horses, Ivy came to visit his big friend with satisfaction.
"It must be Ivy!" Hagrid's voice came from behind the door, but it was Ron who opened the door for Ivy.
"Hey! Come on in! Hagrid's got the tea ready!"
The Iron Triangle looked no different from before the Christmas holidays. Ever since Professor McGonagall forbade them to discuss anything related to the Philosopher's Stone, they seemed to have realized that the people in the castle who should bear the greatest responsibility for protecting the Philosopher's Stone were the adult wizards with great magical powers.
So during this Christmas holiday, Harry and Ron had a lot of fun without any burden, especially after Harry got his father's invisibility cloak. They could explore the entire castle and go to places that they would never dare to think of.
"We are admiring the gift you gave me, Ivy!" Hagrid patted Ivy's shoulder with his hand, which was several times bigger than a pot lid, and pulled him to a sofa made of fur of unknown animals. Next to the fur sofa was Hagrid's big dog, Fang, who was always a little afraid of Ivy, but at this time he still wagged his tail to please him.
As soon as Ivy sat down, Hagrid brought a plate of snacks harder than stone - rock cakes, and a pot of strong hot tea.
"Ivy's gift is amazing!" It seems that Hagrid has told others this more than once.
"I never thought -" Hagrid blew his nose hard, "that you would make a magical statue of that day. I let Buckbeak carry me around the house almost every day - you are so thoughtful, Ivy!"
Harry and Ron couldn't agree more; they both loved the Quill Pen.
Only Hermione looked disapproving.
"You really shouldn't spoil them." Hermione shook her head seriously, her tightly pursed lips reminiscent of Professor McGonagall. Perhaps she was just subconsciously imitating the most majestic image of the person she knew.
"If they all use the quills you give them to complete their homework, what will they learn? Don't forget that there are final exams this semester!"
Seeing Harry and Ron both showing embarrassed expressions, Ivy smiled and said, "Aha, so Hermione has only been back to the castle for one day and she has already caught you using the Silent Bird Quill Pen to do your homework? I thought you would at least hide from her for a while until she found out a week later."
Harry and Ron looked at each other, and from their expressions it was clear that they had never thought of hiding it from Hermione.
Before the mother bird got angry, Ron quickly changed the subject: "You know, Ivy, we found a magical mirror in an empty classroom! Dumbledore said it could reflect people's inner desires. It even reflected Harry's family, even though he didn't know what they looked like!"
Harry nodded in agreement. As the person involved, he understood the magic of the Mirror of Erised best.
"You should be thankful that Professor Dumbledore only advised you not to indulge in it, instead of deducting points from you!" Mother Bird was still angry, "Three consecutive nights! I don't know where you got the courage from! If the other Gryffindors find out that a large number of gems in the hourglass are missing after the holiday, then you two will really be in trouble!"
"Harry has an Invisibility Cloak..." Ron muttered, wanting to say something else, but seeing Hermione's eyes that seemed to want to eat him, he finally said nothing. "If I remember correctly, there are not many people in the castle during the Christmas holidays, right?" Ivy thought for a while, "Then why don't you go during the day? Anyway, the mirror is just in an empty classroom, not a forbidden place, there is no need to sneak out at night to see it?"
"Shhhhh!" Harry gasped, so loudly that one might have thought he was speaking in Parseltongue.
"Ivy!" Harry quickly interrupted Hermione before she could speak, because Ivy's question made him and Ron seem like the kind of people who had to break some school rules, but everyone knew that they were just a little reckless.
"I thought you wrote in your note that you had a present to hand over?" Harry continued, still trying very hard to remember what the note said. "From... the house-elf?"
"House-elf," Ron corrected him hastily.
"Yes, house-elves," Harry corrected himself. "Do they look like the goblins at Gringotts?"
"Maybe they are about the same height?" Ivy recalled the difference between the two and said uncertainly, "They may be close relatives. But I have never studied this. Besides, this is a gift from Dobby to you."
Ivy took out a ring made of dried flowers. As a house elf, Dobby was not allowed to own private property, and everything in Malfoy Manor belonged to the owner. Dobby could not take it away without permission. I wonder how many times these flowers picked from the garden have made him hit his head on the floor, or put his ears in the oven to heat them?
"So, this is the gift that the house-elf wants to give me?" Harry took the dried flower ring in confusion, unable to imagine who would give such a thing as a Christmas gift.
But compared to the coins sent by the Dursleys, Harry might still prefer this dried flower ring. At least the person who made it put a lot of effort into it.
"That's really unusual," Ron commented. "I've never heard of a house-elf giving gifts to other wizards."
"What's a house-elf?" Hermione, who was born into a Muggle family, had never seen this word in any of the big books.
"You didn't know?" Ron looked excited. "It's a magical creature that serves wizards. It helps their masters take care of everything at home. It's loyal and will never betray them! My mother has always wanted to have a house-elf to help with ironing clothes. Think about it, she has seven children."
"It's a pity that house-elves are only found in old manors and castles. We can't find them in our house." Ron sighed regretfully.
"No. In fact, the Weasley family used to have house-elves." Ivy looked at Ron's surprised face and continued, "More than a hundred years ago, when I was studying at Hogwarts, I received help from Professor Matilda Weasley many times. She was the head of Gryffindor at the time, as well as the vice-headmaster and professor of Transfiguration."
"In order to help me integrate into the school quickly, she assigned her house-elf Dicko to assist me. Even now, I am very grateful for the help Professor Weasley gave me."
"Impossible!" Ron looked extremely shocked. "There is a Gryffindor head of house in our family? I've never heard of this!"
