Chapter 84: Tortured Soul

Chapter 84: Tortured Soul
As far as Ivy knew, the only spell among wizards that targeted the soul was "Avada's Melon", a typical instant death spell that would sever the connection between the victim's soul and body and take away their vitality.

Therefore, using the Killing Curse to kill wizards was something Ivy was good at, but when it came to playing with souls, that was not the area that Dark Magic excelled in. The so-called creation of an Inferius was nothing more than making a dead body move again through Dark Magic, and there was no longer anything that could be called a soul inside.

Perhaps this is related to the Veiled Door hidden in the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry of Magic, through which the souls of the dead will leave this world and continue along a path unknown to the living.

But in D&D's magical worldview, souls can certainly be manipulated by magic, and playing with death and souls is the necromancer's specialty. Even in some outer planes, such as Baator and the Abyss, souls are regarded as a currency, a resource for spellcasting, and a key to activate evil mechanical creations.

As a Scribes wizard and a Dazzling Warlock, Ivy had done very little research on necromancy. The only necromancy spell he knew was the 1st-level Create Life spell, which could be exchanged for 500 experience points from the Tome of Destruction.

The effect of this spell is that the caster concocts false vitality through necromancy to support his body. During the duration of the spell, he can exceed his upper limit of health and gain a certain amount of temporary health.

The spell's effects were simple, but Ivy saw in it limitless potential. He believed that all necromancy began with this humble spell.

Make the dead stand up again; use ashes and grave soil to shape evil magical creatures; drive the surging torrent of negative energy to take away the vitality of the enemies and transform them into zombies. How do the powerful necromancers manage to call the dead back to life and turn decay into magic?
Of course, it is through necromancy that false life is created, and this negative vitality is solidified in the undead creatures, allowing them to gain the power to move freely.

Therefore, in Ivy's eyes, the first-level spell "Imitating Life" is the well-deserved starting point of necromancy.

A quick recollection of the original novel reveals that the diary, as a Horcrux, can even absorb the magic and vitality of the young wizard to create a temporary body for itself. So, can the false vitality created by the imitation life be used by the Horcrux?

Ivey couldn't wait to conduct his own experiments.

As the magic of necromancy covered herself, Ivy transferred some of her false vitality to Tom in the Horcrux.

The effect of the magic was immediately apparent. The blank pages that were damaged by Ivy's mind magic arrow began to stretch again, and the gray color gradually faded. In just a breath, the pages of paper returned to the state they were in when Tom just bought them from the shop in London.

"How are you feeling, Tom?" Ivey wrote.

"What on earth is this...what on earth have you done? Is it a sacrifice? What kind of vitality did you give to me? It's too weak. If you want to make me feel better, it's best to use a magical creature. Of course, a wizard is always the best choice." Tom was as arrogant and conceited as ever, and he was always thinking about stealing the wizard's vitality.

Ivy smiled slightly and cancelled the concentration effect of the spell. In an instant, the pages of the diary that had returned to normal became tattered and wrinkled again.

The ink on the diary began to shake again, solidifying into new letters: "How is this possible? Who are you? Don't you know who I am? Those life forces are mine!"

The unexpected turn of events made Tom Riddle in the diary fearful again. He tried to intimidate Ivy through the only means he had: "I belong to the Dark Lord who resists death! As long as you return this diary to him, you will receive an unimaginable reward! The reward of eternal life!"

Ivy could easily tell from the trembling ink that Tom was being aggressive but weak.

"Come on, Tom," Ivy continued. "We all know who you are and what you've done. You're not seeking immortality, you're just resisting death."

The ink on the diary became frantic and angry: "You understand nothing! As long as you can prevent death from coming, you will gain eternal life!" Tom's answer did not exceed Ivy's expectations. This was consistent with his current situation of making Horcruxes to survive. Look at the face behind Quirrell's head. There was no breath of life. He only appeared after meeting Ivy last semester.

In addition, the dark magic that Quirrell had used to test Harry was blocked by the anti-dark magic spell that Ivy attached to the Nimbus 2000, so Voldemort, who was hiding behind his head, dared not show up even more.

If he hadn't used unicorn blood to regain his cursed life, he might not have had the courage to face Harry Potter.

In the original book, Voldemort hid behind Quirrell's head for the entire school year. After Quirrell's repeated attempts, he realized that Harry was not the natural dark devil he had imagined, but just a young wizard who had just stepped into the magical world.

Upon discovering this, he immediately drove Quirrell to slaughter the unicorn in the Forbidden Forest, regaining some of his power through the curse in its blood. He also broke into the room where the Philosopher's Stone was located when Dumbledore left the school, and even confronted Harry one-on-one at the last moment.

As a result, everyone knows that Voldemort was hit in the face by Harry's ruthless iron hand and love magic, and fled, leaving the half-dead Quirrell behind.

That's why Ivy said that his arrogance and short-sightedness were almost ingrained in his bones, and even the soul in the Horcrux was no exception.

Ivy wrote in his diary: "Perhaps you don't know yet, but Voldemort was defeated by a newborn child, and the once powerful Death Eaters scattered overnight. Although Voldemort himself is not dead for the time being due to the existence of the Horcruxes, he can only exist as a shadow temporarily attached to other small creatures. Do you think this can be called living?"

Tom's diary was silent for a long time, as if he was digesting the information in these few short sentences.

After a while, ink reappeared in the diary, looking half-dead and weak: "I have refused death. This is a great achievement. This is eternal life."

This sentence quickly disappeared, and a new line of ink appeared: "What price must I pay in order for you to resurrect me?"

"Don't you understand, Tom?" Ivy wrote with a playful tone, "You don't have any cards in your hand. You will be my research subject, that's all."

"You are a great master of the dark arts. I am not as accomplished as you in this area, but I know many secrets hidden in Hogwarts. You must be curious about the secrets of Slytherin among the Big Four?" The ink on the diary seemed eager and sincere, and even used honorifics.

"Tom, Tom, why are you so arrogant at first and so humble later?" Ivy continued, "No matter how many secrets you know, I will know them in your soul. I hope you will remember this and wait for that day with fear. Believe me, it won't be too far away."

Ivy closed the diary, fired another mind-damaging sorcery arrow, and ended the conversation amid Tom's painful howls.

Ivy actually already had an idea of how to deal with Tom Riddle in the diary.

There are many spells worth trying in DND's necromancy spells. The two closest to Ivy are the 5th-level Energy Drain and the 6th-level Soul Prison. The former requires Ivy to upgrade the Scrivener to level 9, and the latter requires it to reach level 11.

As long as Ivy stopped making strange items and focused on killing monsters in the Forbidden Forest, I believe it wouldn't take long for him to successfully reach these two levels.
