Chapter 95 Meeting between Colleagues

Chapter 95 Meeting between Colleagues
On Saturday afternoon, Ivy, disguised as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Victor, went to the staff lounge on the first floor of the castle.

Passing a pair of stone gargoyles, Ivy pushed open the wooden door of the staff lounge. It was a long room with wooden panels on the walls and many mismatched black wooden chairs inside.

There was also a fireplace in poor condition and some armchairs, but in the center of the room—where Ivy guessed the professors often sat—was a meticulously maintained coffee table and several armchairs upholstered in delicate knitted patterns.

Ivy could tell that the furniture in the best condition was the result of Transfiguration, presumably the work of Professor McGonagall, the Vice-Principal.

"Professor Victor." Professor McGonagall nodded at him, "Welcome to our afternoon tea."

Also sitting there were Professor Sprout, Professor Flitwick, and Astronomy Professor Aurora Sinistra, who was yawning and about to stand up.

Ivy heard Professor Sinistra say, "Thanks for the butter cookies, Pomona, but it's still too early for me. I don't usually get up this early. If you'll excuse me, I must return to the Astronomy Tower for a nap."

"You're welcome, Aurora. If you like, you might as well take some more!" Professor Sprout picked up a box of cookies and handed it to her with a smile. The latter returned a grateful smile and walked past Ivy. She nodded to Ivy as they passed each other.

"What's that, Professor Victor?" That was Professor Flitwick's shrill voice. He helped Ivy move a chair over. "Hurry up and sit down. We can't wait to get to know our new colleague!"

Ivy sat down in the surprisingly soft armchair and handed a stack of papers to Professor McGonagall. He also saw from the corner of his eye that Professor Sprout pushed the snacks towards him and poured him a cup of tea.

"This is..." Professor McGonagall pushed up her glasses that had slipped to the tip of her nose and looked intently at the paper Ivy handed her.

"The syllabus." Ivy took a sip of his tea and said briefly, "The content for grades one to five, the advanced classes are below."

"Oh." Professor McGonagall gave him a surprised look. "I was just about to tell you about this... There's no need to rush to give it to me. I have to say, it's much better than I imagined."

"Due to the nature of the Defense Against the Dark Arts course, Hogwarts students haven't received a systematic education for a long time." Ivy explained that the syllabus was a knowledge tree diagram he summarized with the Wizard's Pen after reading through the lower and higher grade textbooks using two Scholar's Touches.

"My syllabus is divided into three parts: Dark Magic Creatures, Dark Curses, and Dueling. I've broken down the teaching content and organized a reasonable framework for students to study on their own." Seeing the glances from the three deans, Ivy nodded. "I believe self-study is necessary, especially since the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts is always the most dangerous position. They should be able to study on their own when there's no professor around, at least to be able to cope with the Ministry of Magic exams."

The word "exam" undoubtedly touched the part of Ivy's soul that had been exposed to exam-oriented education and rote learning. As the king of test takers, Ivy naturally understood what kind of education method would make it easier to cope with exams.

"Very organized!" Professor Flitwick also moved closer to Professor McGonagall and gave his evaluation while standing on tiptoe. "It's actually very good review material!" "Indeed." Ivy admitted this. "As long as you combine it with appropriate tests and repeated memorization, I believe that coping with the Ministry of Magic's written test will not be a problem. As for the practical part..."

Ivy hesitated for a moment, then said in a tone without much hope: "I will try my best to help them strengthen."

"That's great," Professor McGonagall said soothingly. "Based on this syllabus alone, you're almost the best Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Hogwarts has had in recent years."

Ivey did not become complacent after receiving the recognition. Instead, he put forward his own request: "There is another thing. I want to change the teaching method from each college teaching separately to two colleges in a group, mixed teaching."

"Mixed classes?" Professor McGonagall raised her eyebrows. This meant that the schedules of other professors would also have to be adjusted. Otherwise, it would be difficult to make time for students from the same grade but from two different colleges to attend classes together. "Like Potions class?"

"Yes, I will add some confrontational content for them." Ivey expressed his thoughts concisely.

"Are you talking about dueling?" Professor Flitwick, who had been a duelling champion in his youth, asked enthusiastically.

"More like that, probably? More likely a skirmish?" Ivy nodded in agreement. "I think only wizards would use dark magic against each other. You can't learn how to survive dark wizards from creatures of dark magic."

"Okay, I agree. Although Dumbledore told me in advance that you might have some special ideas and asked me to try my best to meet your requirements, I didn't expect you to use it so soon." Professor McGonagall returned the syllabus to Ivy and agreed to his request. "Fortunately, you gave me a day to reschedule the class schedule, otherwise your plan would have been delayed for at least a week. By the way, do you need a larger classroom?"

"The current one will be fine. I'll try to make it bigger, at least enough to accommodate students from the two largest colleges." Ivy nodded in gratitude. "I'll hand out this syllabus to every student next Monday. It will serve not only as a study guide but also as review material."

"Oh! That's great." Professor McGonagall stood up from her armchair. "It looks like we don't have to worry about the students' Defense Against the Dark Arts certificates this year."

If astronomy classes are not counted, Hogwarts has a total of 40 classes a week (4 in the morning, 40 in the afternoon, five days a week). For the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, there is no free time in these 8 classes, and he has to teach classes every day.

By switching from separate house classes to mixed classes, Ivy would be able to free up 17 hours of free time. Only in this way would Ivy have enough time to study magic. Otherwise, even holding a treasure like the Philosopher's Stone would be a waste.

Not to mention that he also had to find time to torture Tom Riddle in the diary and cast a spell for his map of the Chamber of Secrets.
