Chapter 1 The Unwitting Sucker

"You mean, you're pregnant with Junyan's child?"

The sudden increase in volume echoed in the empty hall, revealing the turmoil in the owner's heart and startling the girl who was lost in thought in the corner.

Du Anrao glanced at the woman sitting on the sofa. She was dressed in a white dress with long hair, slender, and had lowered eyes that were shimmering with water. Her cheeks were slightly flushed, and she looked like a small white flower swaying in the wind, pitiful and charming.

But when he thought of the woman's true nature hidden beneath her gentle appearance, Du Anrao's eyelids twitched violently.

A few days ago, when Du Anrao was expelled from the mountain gate by her master, she unexpectedly learned that she was actually the biological daughter of the Du family who had been separated for more than ten years.

On her way home with Mr. and Mrs. Du, she encountered a minor accident, and when she woke up again, she found herself with a library in her mind.

Du Anrao didn't pay much attention at first, until he ran into Bai Xiuqing at home today.

“Aunt Ning, I know this news might be a bit sudden for you. I just returned from abroad on the 5th of last month, and I was passing through City C. I happened to run into Brother Junyan that night when I checked into the hotel. He had been drinking and had no one to take care of him, so I went with him out of concern. I never expected…”

"This was an accident, so it's not Junyan's fault. I originally planned to keep it to myself, but a couple of days ago I suddenly felt unwell and went to the hospital for a checkup, only to find out that I was pregnant."

At this point, the woman's eyes reddened even more: "It doesn't matter that I don't have a formal status, but the child... can't be without a father."

A child can't be without a father, but he can't just call anyone "Dad." Why are you in such a rush to find a father for your child? Have you even asked the child's biological father?

"What..." The sudden voice pulled Du's mother back to reality. She turned her head and met her husband's equally surprised expression.

The two exchanged a glance and simultaneously looked at their newly reunited youngest daughter, who was not far away.

Du Anrao was a little confused when they suddenly looked over: "What's wrong?"

"...It's nothing." Suppressing her doubts, Mrs. Du looked at Bai Xiuqing again. "You mean that the night you met at the hotel..."

Bai Xiuqing blushed and said, "Yes, it's been more than a month."

[She lies without thinking; her belly is so big, and she's only a little over a month along? She must be at least three months pregnant!]

Mr. and Mrs. Du: "..." It's confirmed, it's not their hallucination, it's their youngest daughter's voice.

However, the current situation did not allow them to think too much. Following Du Anrao's reminder, their gazes immediately fell on Bai Xiuqing's stomach.

Bai Xiuqing froze, instinctively pushing the prepared report in front of the two of them.

The two picked it up and saw that it was indeed more than a month old.

Du Anrao also sneaked over for a peek, but didn't think much of it.

[These days, even people can lie, let alone a medical report? If I remember correctly, the radiologist at the Third Hospital is one of Bai Xiuqing's sycophants. It was because of his help that Bai Xiuqing was able to avoid prenatal checkups time and time again, and fool her older brother into willingly becoming her sugar daddy.]

Mr. Du's hand trembled, and he almost spilled the tea in his hand on Bai Xiuqing's face.

Mrs. Du stared in surprise, then calmed down and said, "This report is too simple. A lot of information is written unclearly. It would be better to have it checked again. Have Old Li prepare the car, and we'll go to the First Hospital together."

Hearing that Mrs. Du was going to take her to the First Hospital instead of the Third Hospital, Bai Xiuqing's heart skipped a beat, and she almost lost her composure. "To the First Hospital? Why not the Third Hospital? I remember Uncle Du seems to have shares in the Third Hospital, and it's closer and more convenient."

Du Anrao was also surprised by his mother's decision, and his eyes lit up slightly.

"The First Hospital is great; no one there will forge documents for her. As long as the tests are done, it will prove her brother's innocence."

Upon hearing this, Du's mother became even more determined in her decision: "The obstetrics and gynecology department of the Third Hospital is not as authoritative as that of the First Hospital. It's settled then. I'll have someone arrange it right away."

"Aunt Ning! Actually, there's no need to go through all this trouble. I've already had all the necessary checkups done yesterday, and the doctor said that both I and the baby are fine..."

Before she could finish speaking, Du's mother interrupted her: "This is your first pregnancy. You have no experience, so it's inevitable that you'll make mistakes. Besides, we don't know if the doctor who examined you is reliable or not."

"Although your Uncle Du doesn't own shares in the First Hospital, the two hospitals have always cooperated, and he knows the doctors there well. He will definitely find the most authoritative obstetrician and gynecologist to give you a thorough examination."

Mr. Du immediately nodded in agreement: "Yes, I'll call the president of the First Hospital right away."

Du Anrao could tell from Bai Xiuqing's pale face that she was panicked, but she also knew that Bai Xiuqing had come prepared today and would definitely not let the matter rest.

Sure enough, the next second, Bai Xiuqing said in a grief-stricken tone, "Aunt Ning, Uncle, do you not believe what I just said? Otherwise, why would you keep confirming the child with me?"

Mrs. Du was stunned. She thought to herself, what's wrong with confirming such a life-or-death matter a few more times? Why does it sound like she's being unreasonable when her mother brings it up like this?

"You...you're insulting me! How could I, an innocent girl, joke about something like this?"

Du Anrao couldn't help but laugh as he listened to her righteous and eloquent defense.

You're definitely not joking about this; you're just determined to pin this cuckoldry on my older brother.

Mr. and Mrs. Du: "..."

Bai Xiuqing, unaware of the complex emotions in their hearts, continued her performance: "I know that I am an orphan with no parents, no power, and no influence, and I am not worthy of Brother Junyan, but the child is innocent. After my parents passed away, I dreamed of having a blood relative. Now that he has finally appeared, I would never give him up. You don't want him, but I do."

As she stood up to leave, she said, "I was too forward today. Pretend I was never here. From now on, this child will only be my child, and will have nothing to do with your Du family."

Du's mother was taken aback by Bai Xiuqing's self-talk and was speechless for a moment.

When Du's father heard Bai Xiuqing mention his parents, his expression softened.

Du Anrao, however, saw through Bai Xiuqing's little scheme at a glance and sighed in admiration.

[What a clever tactic of feigning retreat to advance, what a clever way of turning the tables! Claiming someone is orphaned, powerless, and weak, slapping a huge accusation of bullying an orphan girl on them—isn't this a classic case of "I'm weak, therefore I'm right"—a classic case of extortion?]

Mr. and Mrs. Du: "..." It seems that's how it is.

[But seriously, do your parents know that you willingly became the mistress of your father's killer while abroad, got pregnant with his child, and then even had your father's best friend's son take over, making that whole family raise your father's killer's child for you? If they knew, they'd probably want to crawl out of their graves right now and strangle you to death, wouldn't they?]
