Chapter 13 Liu Yuwan's Background

In less than fifteen minutes, the drying ground in Lingshan Village was brightly lit, and all the villagers had been brought there.

Cries, curses, screams, and shouts filled the air as a man in black roared, "Silence! Anyone who makes another sound will die!"

The drying ground immediately fell silent; the gleaming broadswords were truly terrifying to the villagers.

The young man walked to the center and stood still, cupped his hands slightly, and said in a clear, cold voice: "Fellow villagers, my aunt went missing ten years ago. The elders in my family never gave up searching for her, and finally found out that she had settled in Lingshan Village."

The village chief asked tremblingly, "Young master, may I ask who your aunt is? It seems that no outsiders have settled in our village."

"You're the village chief, right? My aunt's surname is Liu, and her given name is Yuwan. Have you ever heard of her?"

"Shi Zhuang's wife?" The village chief exclaimed in surprise, blurting out his thoughts.

"Shi Zhuang's wife? Where is she? Does she have any children?" the young man asked hurriedly, his urgent tone making the village chief and villagers tremble.

"Young...Young Master, Shi Zhuang's wife disappeared more than a year ago. Old Man Shi and the others said she ran away with another man," the village chief said tremblingly.

"She ran away? How could that be? Our Taoist priest performed a ritual and said she was in Lingshan Village, but when we found her, it was just a wasteland. If you don't find her, none of us will live," a man in black robes retorted.

The young man's forehead veins throbbed, fearing it would be another unrequited love.

The village chief was terrified and broke out in a cold sweat. He quickly pulled Old Man Shi and Old Woman Shi aside and said, "Young master, the aunt you mentioned married their second son, Shi Zhuang, and they had a daughter. But a little over a year ago, Shi Zhuang was attacked and killed by wild wolves in the mountains."

A month after Shi Zhuang's death, Shi Zhuang's wife and daughter disappeared. Shi's mother and the others said that Shi Zhuang's wife had run away with a stranger and her daughter.

We figured running away was better than suffering at the Shi family's hands, so... so we didn't pursue the truth. If you're looking for someone, go find the Shi family.

"Shi family, since that's the case, why don't you take us there and see if that place is where my aunt used to live?"

With a wave of his hand, the young man sent out several men in black. Each of them grabbed one person and flew off toward the spot where the light had fallen.

The people arrested sometimes included an old man and his wife, Shi Du, the village chief, two clan elders, and two women.

"This is it!" The young man gestured for the man in black to put the person down.

The village chief said at a glance, "This is the mud shed where Shi Zhuang's wife lived after they separated from the family!"

The man in black examined the weeds and said, "This place, which is less than twenty square meters in size, used to be a house."

Old Man Shi was very flustered. He was timid by nature, and his wife usually made the decisions about everything in the family, big or small. Last time... last time was the same.

The young man looked at the trembling group, his voice cold and piercing: "We sensed that my aunt's blood was left here. Can anyone tell me where she went? Why was her blood spilled here?"

Old Man Shi was so frightened that he knelt down on the ground with a thud and kowtowed, saying, "Liu Shi... Liu Shi is dead, and... and her daughter is also dead. Her body... her body was fed to the wolves of Wild Wolf Slope."

"What? Old Shi, didn't you say you ran away with someone? You killed someone?" the village chief asked in terror, his hands trembling.

"Who? Who killed her? Speak!" The young man kicked her, and Shi Laohao screamed and fell to the ground convulsing. She quickly fell silent.

Everyone else was terrified, covering their mouths and not daring to make a sound. After a long while, Shi Du grabbed Old Lady Shi's hand and asked tremblingly, "Mother, Second Sister-in-law, Second Sister-in-law didn't run away with someone, she was killed by you and Father? Why?"

"You're talking nonsense, Liu was... Peng'er..." Old Mrs. Shi realized something was wrong and quickly covered her mouth to stop talking.

"Fine, a life for a life, a debt for a debt. You're all dead!" The young man was furious and waved his hand, signaling his servants to attack.

A captain of the guards came up and whispered a few words in his ear. The young man hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Did my aunt leave anything behind, such as jewelry?"

"No...no!" Old Mrs. Shi stammered.

"What? Don't want to live? Tell the truth and I might spare your life, otherwise don't blame me for being ruthless."

Granny Shi trembled with fright and kowtowed, saying, "We did have some, but not long after Liu died, our house was robbed. A gold hairpin and some silver notes were stolen. There's nothing else... nothing else."

The young man, his face ashen, asked, "Are you saying my aunt left nothing behind?! Did you see the jade bracelet?"

"No, we've never seen anything... Nothing was left behind. The mother and daughter lived here. After they died, we searched the place thoroughly, but we didn't find anything of value! Young master! Really... really nothing was left behind!" Granny Shi trembled violently, and her words became incoherent.

The young man waved his hand, and the man in black swung his knife at the group. Xingbai cast an illusion spell, saving everyone except Old Lady Shi and Old Man Shi.

The young man silenced the witnesses and left Lingshan Village with his men, filled with rage!
There was nothing we could do; since the person was dead and the items were missing, we could only search for them slowly.

Xingbai recounted everything he had seen, and Gu Shihan showed no concern whatsoever for the deaths of Granny Shi and Old Man Shi.

Knowing that Xingbai had saved the others, he praised Xingbai a few times, which made Xingbai very happy.

When the village chief and the others woke up, it was already daylight. They showed no sympathy for the old man and his wife who were dead to the side.

"A life for a life, a debt for a debt." Everyone believed that they deserved their fate and felt indignant on behalf of the Liu mother and daughter.

"Hanhan, where do we go next? Should we investigate the Western Jin royal family? And what about that Taoist priest? Should we kill him?" Xingbai said to Gu Shihan.

"Yes, we'll find an opportunity to eliminate them, thus reducing the Western Jin royal family's henchman." Gu Shihan's eyes were cold as she said in a low voice, "As for the Western Jin, we do need to take a look. The Liu family seems unusual, and the Western Jin royal family is also very mysterious. Xingbai, let's set off tomorrow."

"Alright! Let's go kill someone!" Xingbai and Gu Shihan sneaked into the mansion, but the young man had not yet returned.

The man and the beast made their way to the Taoist priest's room. Perhaps he was too tired from the ritual, because he had gone to bed early.

Gu Shihan quickly flashed into the room, and with one sword strike, the Taoist was decapitated. He was dead beyond any doubt. Xingbai then stole the Taoist's crystal ball.

Without the means to carry out the scheme, it would be more difficult for the Western Jin imperial family to plot against their own masters.

With a single fire talisman, the Taoist priest vanished without a trace. Gu Shihan jumped out of the window, her small, white mouth opening and blowing, and all the aura in the room dissipated without leaving a trace.

I work hard at writing, and your recognition is my greatest motivation!
