Chapter 17 Kill

Chapter 17 Kill
The four walls of Chang'an City had three gates on each side, and each gate had three lanes. The middle one was the official road, and each lane could accommodate four chariots.

The west gates of Chang'an are Zhangchengmen, Zhichengmen and Yongmen, and Zhichengmen is the middle gate on the west side.

There are eight streets and nine alleys in the city, among which Gao Street, Zhangtai Street, Xiangshi Street and Huayang Street are the front streets.

The front street is Chengmen Street, which is the street facing the middle gate of the four city walls and is arranged in a cross shape.

The street of Anmen (the middle gate on the south side) is Zhangtai Street.

The street directly connected to the city gate (the middle gate on the west side) is Gao Street.

The street near Qingming Gate (the middle gate on the east side) is Xiangshi Street.

The street of Hengmen (north west gate) is Huayang Street.

The Gaojie Duting governs the neighborhoods on both sides of Gaojie. The residences of the envoys from the barbarians are all located in Gaojie. The Duting occupies a large area and is much larger than ordinary Dutings.

On both sides of the gate of Gaojie Duting, along the edge of the rammed earth mound, there are densely arranged stone foundations (chu), on which wooden pillars are erected, and then a gatehouse is built on top. On both sides are special houses where the pavilion guards rest on weekdays.

A group of guards were discussing how to give Guo Jie a warning so that he would know who has the final say in Chang'an City.

"A tiger pulls a cart!"

A guard at the pavilion was astonished to find an overturned cart pulled by a tiger: "Look, a tiger has appeared on Gao Street. I have lived so long and have never heard of a tiger pulling a cart. It is unbelievable."

"wrong!"

The leading stable boy frowned and said, "It's not a tiger, it looks more like a cow covered in a tiger skin. The man sitting on the cart also looks familiar."

The stableman's eyes suddenly widened: "Guo Guo Jie!"

The guards at the pavilion were shocked, but soon understood.

"So it's Guo Jie. No wonder he can ride in a tiger chariot."

"Oh, it's just bluffing. Even if you ride in a chariot, it's useless. You and I are members of a powerful clan."

"Could Guo Jie dare to offend all the powerful people in the more than ten neighborhoods in Gaojie?"

The stable boy stood up with a two-foot-long sword slung over his shoulder, turned around and walked out of the extraordinary room, followed by many guards. He was not going out to greet Guo Jie, but to stop him outside.

This made Guo Jie lose all face.

The stablemaster saw three knights following behind the white-covered cart and sneered, "Country folk are truly foolish. They only know how to act rashly and have no understanding of rules. Even if Guo Jie brings more men, it will be useless. I am an official of the government. As long as I wear this official uniform, who would dare to attack an official of the government?"

Killing the Dou Shi clerk was the same as killing the Chang'an magistrate, both of which were provocations to the government. Not to mention the three squads of knights, hundreds of knights still could not escape the encirclement and suppression of the Chang'an soldiers.

The stable attendant was certain that Guo Jie would not dare to kill anyone, so he said fearlessly, "Who are you? Do you know that gathering the knights to besiege the Gaojie Duting is a serious crime? Do you want to behead them?"

The guards drew the ring-handled swords from their waists and waved them proudly with contemptuous expressions, looking down on the country folk from Chen County.

"Hey, everyone is wearing white clothes. A thin layer of cloth is stronger than fish scale armor. No one dares to attack the people from the official temple."

"A country bumpkin wants to ride on the head of a Chang'an resident. What a joke!"

"I heard that Guo Jie is good at rhetoric and trickery. Today I want to hear how much nonsense he can say. When he is mouth dry, I will definitely laugh at him as a gossipy woman who can only talk but not do anything." The stableman drew out a two-foot sword, made a disrespectful gesture, and made a stabbing motion towards Guo Jie.

He was certain that Guo Jie would not dare to kill the officials and clerks wearing black clothes.

Zhang Qian, Wei Guang, Mang Tong and everyone else were furious.

Guo Jie jumped off the white cloth-covered carriage, too lazy to talk nonsense, grabbed the sword of the stable boy, and cut off a lock of hair from his bun.

He sneered, "Kill!"

The knight from Hui Ren's family could no longer contain himself. When he heard Guo Jie shout "Kill", he didn't care at all that killing an official was a capital crime, and he drew his two-foot sword and rushed forward.

"what!"

"what!"

"what!"

The guards usually only bullied the common people and were no match for the knight-errant, so they soon let out screams.

The stablemaster looked at the blood-soaked gate of the palace and panicked, saying in horror, "How dare you kill an official from the government temple?"

"Ah."

Guo Jie sneered and said, "In public, you stabbed me with a sword and cut off my hair and beard. You and the guards were the first to act, committing the grave crime of murdering a thief. I was not killing an official of the government or temple, but was suppressing a rebel."

He raised the beard in his hand and looked coldly at the stablemaster who came from a powerful family and was so cruel that he was involved in the lives of dozens of people at a time.

There is no mercy at all.

Jiu Zuo was stunned for a moment: "This, this, this... You are wrongly accusing us!"

Attacking officials constitutes the serious crime of killing or murdering officials. The government and the temple have extremely harsh punishments for killing officials, and directly sentence them to death (beheading).

The king's policy is not to rush to deal with thieves. Anyone who attacks officials or temples will be sentenced to beheading for the crime of high treason and plotting to endanger the country.

In order to put an end to the killing of officials, the Han Dynasty law stipulated that anyone who masterminded and concealed the killing of officials would be held responsible and convicted of the crime of concealing the crime and sentenced to death and public execution.

Anyone who passes on information, acts as a guide, or provides food will be charged with the crime of passing on food and will be sentenced to death.

"Spare my life."

Frightened and regretful, the stableman knelt on the snowy ground and kowtowed repeatedly: "Please spare my life, Chief. I am of great use to you and am willing to present you with a pair of beauties. I have been coveting this pair of beauties from the same mother for a long time."

"puff!"

Guo Jie beheaded him with a single blow and said irritably, "Shut up!"

"Zhang Qian and Wei Guang protected the cook."

Guo Jie shouted, "The rest are all accomplices of the stable officer. Kill them all without a single one remaining!"
