Chapter 3 The Three-Year Period 1
To be on the safe side, we should go to the Chamber of Commerce and take a flying boat there.

Flying boats are an important means of transportation in the novel. Many cultivators who want to travel to distant places will first go to the nearest town, find the resident merchant guild to buy a ticket, and then board the flying boat.

Most chambers of commerce are established by powerful families and clans. With a powerful figure in charge, they will send cultivators with Golden Core cultivation as guards to ensure safety when the flying boat is in motion.

Stepping into the quaint town, her gaze swept around and she realized she was wearing the clothes of a personal disciple, and a strange sense of filth welled up in her heart.

She took out spirit stones from her storage bag, bought a simple set of clothes to change into, and pawned her personal disciple's robes. Afterwards, she bought some daily necessities and dry rations, which she packed into her storage bag.
She hasn't reached the Foundation Establishment stage yet and still needs to rely on food or fasting pills to fill her stomach. Food on the flying boat is quite expensive, so she needs to prepare dry rations in advance to reduce unnecessary expenses.

Upon entering the Chamber of Commerce, I encountered three outer disciples of the Xuantian Sect.

She tried to pretend she hadn't seen it, but the three of them were talking about her very loudly, acting all affected, as if they were afraid she wouldn't hear them.

Outer disciples enjoy watching the direct disciples or inner disciples make fools of themselves. They'd love for someone to fall from a high place so they, the outer disciples, can have a chance to climb up.

They were mostly sarcastic and unfriendly towards those disciples whose status had changed.

Some people can't stand seeing others succeed and have no empathy for those who are going through a rough patch in life; instead, they mock and ridicule them.

"See that? This is the disciple mentioned in the jade tablet who betrayed her sect and was ungrateful. She left the sect in a huff when she heard that others didn't do what she wanted. Now she's a rogue cultivator, without the resources of a direct disciple, and can only wear coarse cloth."

One of the Xuantian Sect disciples kept glancing in her direction as he spoke, as if afraid she wouldn't notice their discussion.

"Exactly, why did she have to be so foolish? So many people would kill for the status of a direct disciple. With only three spiritual roots, she was never even close to being a direct disciple. Not only did she not cherish the opportunity, but she also caused trouble and left the sect. She deserves to end up like this."

When faced with those troubling behaviors, her reaction was complete ignoring. No matter what they said, she didn't respond or pay attention; in the end, it was only they who became anxious.

After observing them like monkeys, it was like opening a new world. Their affected mannerisms seemed perfectly understandable to her.

Seeing that she didn't react, the three men assumed she was scared and backed down, not daring to confront her directly, so they boldly stepped forward and blocked her way.

"Senior Sister Lin, we're all fellow disciples, why don't you greet us when you see us?" Among the three, the tallest disciple, who looked like a monkey, asked in a sarcastic tone.

After the taller disciple finished asking the question, the shorter disciple immediately chimed in: "She's left the sect, she's not our Senior Sister Lin anymore, so she can't answer your question."

The two of them, one singing and the other harmonizing, are like two monkeys performing a crosstalk routine.

Lin Yan immediately clapped: "You two performed very well. You could set up a stage and perform opera. The sect really didn't make good use of your talents!" Her tone was sincere, with no intention of mocking Yin Yang.

Sincerity is the only surefire way to win.

"Senior Sister Lin, even if you're angry, you can't call us opera singers. You've gone too far," the tall disciple said indignantly.

She looked innocent and rather troubled. "I didn't insult you. I was praising your singing. I meant it sincerely, nothing more."

These two have terrible mentality. They were so good at making sarcastic remarks, but when others retaliated in the same way, they broke down on the spot.

Seeing that his companion was at a disadvantage, the disciple who hadn't said much and seemed to be the most intelligent among the three stepped forward to smooth things over.

"Fellow Daoist Lin, I apologize. My two junior brothers were outspoken. I apologize to you." Her strength was currently insufficient, and it wasn't wise to make too many enemies. She accepted the offer of a way out. "It's alright, I know my two fellow Daoists were joking with me."

The three men gave in, and she went to buy a ticket for the flying boat.

"Are there still airships going to Wan Yao Sen today?" she asked politely at the ticket office.

The person in charge of selling tickets was a female cultivator, dressed in the Chamber of Commerce's uniform, with a smile on her face, giving people a feeling of warmth and comfort.

The service from this chamber of commerce is excellent. She will definitely choose this chamber of commerce again if she needs any services in the future.

"That's all. However, there are two airships heading to Garan City tomorrow, passing through the Ten Thousand Demon Forest, at 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM respectively."

"Okay, let's get a ticket for 9 AM."

“Okay, because the airship to Garan City passes over the Sandstone Valley, which is a hiding place for evil cultivators, the airship needs to be equipped with more guards, so the ticket price will be a bit more expensive. A regular ticket is five mid-grade spirit stones, a regular cabin ticket is 20 mid-grade spirit stones, a mid-grade cabin ticket is 40 mid-grade spirit stones, and a deluxe cabin ticket is 1 high-grade spirit stone.”

Well, a direct disciple of the Xuantian Sect only earns five high-grade spirit stones a month. That's gone in five luxury cabin rides!
This place is too far from the Ten Thousand Demon Forest. Taking a flying boat there is much faster than riding a paper crane, and the safety factor is also much higher.

"Give me a regular passenger car ticket for the hour of Si (9-11 AM)." She took out a few spirit stones from her storage bag and placed them on the table.

Regular tickets only allow movement on the airship deck; she needs to cultivate, so a single room would be better.

Although she didn't receive any special resources during her years as a direct disciple, she still received a fixed monthly allowance of spirit stones.

Even with this small share, Gu Zhu used to borrow half of the monthly spirit stones.

Gu Zhu has borrowed no less than a hundred high-grade spirit stones from her, but has never returned them. The self before being reborn is truly terrifying; completely devoid of self-respect, allowing others to exploit her.

The female cultivator put away the spirit stones and handed over a token. "This is your pass for boarding the flying boat. Please keep it safe. The merchant guild also provides accommodation; a regular room costs only 10 low-grade spirit stones per night."

After comparing the prices of the flying boat cabin tickets, she felt that ten spirit stones were a bargain. Indeed, everything only becomes apparent through comparison.

The female cultivator noticed the hint of wanting to stay the night in her eyes, so she smiled and continued to guide her, "The counter across the street is where you check in. If you need to, you can go there and ask. They will provide you with attentive service."

She nodded and walked towards the check-in area.

The sun had already set, and while there weren't many cultivators buying tickets, there were quite a few checking into hotels. She went over and chose the line with the fewer people.

The Chamber of Commerce offered five different types of rooms, but she was short of money and only chose the most basic one.

She went to the guest room provided by the Chamber of Commerce, took out the lowest-grade talisman from her storage bag, and focused intently on setting up a protective barrier.

This barrier can block those with lower cultivation levels than her. If a cultivator with higher cultivation levels tries to break in, it will cause the barrier to tremble, allowing her to sense it immediately.
