Chapter 103 Mother's Day

"When does a killer stop killing?"

Reversing this question, the resulting question is:

"When does a killer kill?"

"Hatred and profit," Ma Zhaodi concluded. "Even super criminals like these psychopaths have their own reasons for killing. Even a pure lunatic like the Joker went to Harvey's house to get rid of the Holiday Killer."

"Whether it's the thrill of killing, a display of one's abilities, or simply a desire to kill, it's always a 'want'. But to make him 'not want' to kill himself means that the Riddler has nothing to do with either of those things."

"Or rather, he actively avoided these two points."

"He has no connection with the Festival Killer, so there's no hatred between them. But today, the Godfather asked him to find out the identity of the Festival Killer - this will definitely infringe on the Festival Killer's interests."

"He didn't kill the Riddler because he didn't cause any harm to his interests. He deliberately avoided the Festival Killer's true identity, so the Festival Killer just happened to follow the rules of April Fools' Day and didn't kill him."

Don't shout or ask for help, lean against the wall and keep your body tense so that you won't be hit by bullets due to movement. Keep your eyes on the muzzle of the gun to prevent the festival killer from really wanting to kill you and to retain the strength to resist.

The Riddler may not know who the Festival Killer is, but he definitely knows who the Festival Killer is not. He survived the double-teaming of the Godfather and the Festival Killer, and successfully escaped.

"Batman is suspicious of Harvey." Ma Zhaodi thought: "This is not a good thing, but fortunately, I did something on Valentine's Day."

"I called Harvey after the bombing. The call lasted about ten minutes, and he left Wayne's house after I finished the call."

I am his alibi, Ma Zhaodi thought. Even if Alfred might not have looked at his watch at that time, Batman could rule out Harvey's suspicion that night by simply confirming the time of the phone call and the time of the crime with me and Sheriff Gordon respectively.

The question is, after removing these people, who is left?

Ma Zhaodi's head ached. When he was doing the process of elimination, he could still think of some things, but when he tried to expand his associations, his thoughts were too complicated. There were too many possibilities, including copycat crimes, multiple people committing crimes, cooperation between men and women, even the Godfather, Maroni, and Two-Face awakening and each committing several cases, or an anti-hero coming to Gotham City. Once he opened his mind, he would find that he still had too few clues.

In this chaotic and crazy city, he was not sure whether he was sane or not.

Maybe, we should urge Batman, that scourge, to go find the Riddler?
Time passed quickly. Due to the indiscriminate attacks of the festival killers, the Romans and the Maroni family seemed to have calmed down. Ma Zhaodi was still in a shelved state. Some members of the Falcone family seemed dissatisfied with keeping such a disaster weapon that could not be fired and did not belong to the family.

The only thing to be thankful for was that the supervisor did not say that he would cancel the $60,000 that was going to be transferred to him in April.

Putting aside the assets that could not be saved no matter how hard he tried, the cash in Ma Zhaodi's account had accumulated to a considerable amount. After deducting expenses, there was probably nearly 200,000 left.

As for the things that are not so fortunate, it is that the Riddler is really good at hiding. When he is not causing trouble and wants to survive, Batman, who has little energy left, has not been able to find him for the time being.

His main focus was on dealing with Harvey Dent.

"That boy Vernon does have connections with Maroni. He can't be trusted."

"But the dossier is genuine, Gordon."

"Are you sure you want to keep doing this?"

"Arrest one of Gotham City's most famous citizens?" Harvey shook his head and looked at Batman beside him: "No."

"But if Bruce Wayne is truly helping the Roman Empire—then whatever is about to happen is what he deserves."

Batman stood aside, feeling a little numb. If tonight hadn't been the time to collect evidence from Gordon about the Valentine's Day crime, he might not have heard this conversation.

"Bruce Wayne has kept his distance from the Romans for years," he said. "Without him, Gotham Bank would have already partnered with the Romans."

"Now that he's here, the bank still passed the cooperation resolution." Harvey shook his head. "I used to think Bruce was a good person, but now..."

Batman is even more numb.

He couldn't tell her about Poison Ivy because he didn't send her back to Arkham - her control ability was too dangerous, so Batman built a private prison for her and was planning to add a similar cell to Arkham Asylum.

The few of them had discussed the topic of private prisons many times, but they could never reach a consensus. After all, his private prison did not have any procedures or supervision. In other words, it could be called illegal imprisonment.

I have to find time to have a good talk with Harvey, using another identity. He thought to himself, fortunately things haven't reached the worst point, at least I didn't miss the meeting tonight.

Batman was pulled back by his teammates, which no one could have expected. As a result, May arrived in such a sticky atmosphere.

"Hmm?" Ma Zhaodi raised his eyebrows as he looked at the task panel. This task seemed unusually easy.

"You know a lot—tell me everything you know."

"Let me out, let me go, and I'll stop him from killing. It's Mother's Day."

One is black and the other is white, one is outside and the other is inside, Batman and Calendar Man stare at each other through the thick bulletproof glass, one wants the truth and the other wants freedom.

"Every son has a mother." The Calendar Man smiled faintly, "Even you."

"Do you want blood on your hands on Mother's Day?"

That's right, although the Riddler is hard to find, Calendar Man is imprisoned in Arkham Asylum, and Batman will not miss any opportunity to collect possible intelligence. Moreover, today is Mother's Day - as Calendar Man said, he really doesn't want to see anyone die on this day.

But things don't always go as we wish.

"Batman, help me."

The prison guard stumbled and fell to the ground, panting. His face was full of fear, and his voice was intermittent: "Escaped, fourth floor"

He fell to the ground before he could finish a complete sentence, curled up in a state of complete panic.

Only one person can do this kind of thing.

Batman ran as fast as he could into the darkness. When he reappeared, he had arrived at the fourth floor, in front of a half-closed door.

Jonathan Crane, that was the name of the prisoner held behind this door.

PS: It is indeed gone. It is really gone now.
