Chapter 263 Constantine Rejects Namos's Invitation to Kiss

"That was really tough."

Seeing the system notification, Ma Zhaodi breathed a sigh of relief. After investigating this matter for so many days, there was finally some good news today.

He released the message "I did not kill anyone" onto the worm cloud inside the man's body, and then saw the man, who was now just skin and bones, lying on the ground. Although he was on the verge of death, he did not actually stop breathing.

After he finished devouring them, the swarm of insects burst out of his body, buzzed away, and flew into a small alley.

"This guy's done for."

Constantine suddenly spoke up, no longer looking at the man on the ground: "I've long understood one thing: if you like eating meat, there's no need to become a vegetarian. Vegetarianism is just vegetarianism. Liking to eat vegetables is a normal preference, no different from liking to eat meat, nothing more. But clearly, some people don't understand this."

After saying that, he chased after the swarm of flies that had flown out of the man's mouth and quickly followed them into the alley: "People say that you can find a beehive by following bees, I wonder if it will work if you switch to flies—Old Ma, come quick."

Ma Zhaodi shook his head and said to Constantine and Emma, "You go first, I'll be right there."

"hurry up!"

Ma Zhaodi glanced at the imposing crowd around him, thought for a moment, pulled down his hood to cover his face with the wide brim, and then secretly handed over a piece of candy hidden in his hand.

He stepped forward, knelt down, and said to the woman who was still holding the man and crying, "His condition doesn't seem good. Let me check his pupils and breathing."

"Are you a doctor?"

Faced with the woman's skeptical question, Ma Zhaodi did not answer. Instead, he bent down, blocking the view of others, and put the candy into the man's mouth.

“Oh, I’m not a doctor.” He put the man down as he answered, “I was mainly out of curiosity. Since the ambulance hadn’t arrived yet, I wanted to check if the man was dead.”

The woman stared at Ma Zhaodi with wide, incredulous eyes, her lips trembling slightly, clearly brewing a storm of insults.

Ma Zhaodi certainly didn't want to lose his parents, so he quickly slipped into the alley before the woman could speak.

Meanwhile, Constantine and Mary followed the trail of the swarm of insects to a church.

“We’ve arrived,” he said. “Looks like following the flies can be quite effective.”

He reached his hand towards the church door, which was crawling with all sorts of insects, but he didn't feel disgusted. At that moment, he felt tense, excited, and eager—whether it was the anger stirred by the man's gruesome death before his eyes or the guilt and pain of having to use his friend, he didn't know. In any case, Constantine was now directing all his anger at Namos.

As an exorcist, his primary goal was to eliminate demons, and at this moment, this desire reached its peak.

So he pushed open the church door, and Emma followed him inside.

The neon lights outside streamed through the glass windows into the interior of this small church; apart from that, the candles on the altar were the only source of light.

Behind the crucifix statue of Jesus standing on the platform, stained glass depicting the Virgin Mary, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit was projected onto the floor by lights. As soon as Constantine entered, he saw a dark shadow amidst the magnificent glow of the stained glass. The deafening buzzing of the devil indicated that Namo was inside the church. The church was almost empty. The dark shadow held a crucifix and loudly chanted the name of Jesus Christ—it wasn't Namo; he was the church's priest.

His eyes were fixed on the dome of the church, his expression one of utter terror. Constantine looked up as well, for that was where the true form of Namos resided.

Amidst a deafening buzzing sound, countless dense swarms of mosquitoes and flies converged into a terrifying tide, combining and merging in the air to form a gigantic, horrifying insect-shaped demon.

Its green compound eyes were fixed on Constantine and the priest on the ground. Its sharp, hairy limbs were ended with three-fingered claws. Its pale mouth opened and closed slightly, and the huge hole in its face seemed like a bottomless abyss. A long green tongue stretched out from it, greedily licking the scent of fear in the air.

The swarm of insects that flew in from outside the church, carrying the man's flesh and blood, flew into his body through the hole in his face. Then, a million noisy buzzing mosquitoes let out a joyful and satisfied sigh, which eventually merged into the sound of Namos.

"You want to eat the priest, don't you?" Constantine sneered. He could sense the demon's greed and craving. He knew he had interfered with the demon's meal, and now, Moses had to choose between him and the priest.

An opportunity to confront the demon head-on—it couldn't be better, let's seize this chance to finish it off.

"Come on, you rotten flesh infested with maggots from hell, come and eat me!" he roared. "I'll choke you to death, you filthy thing!"

“John, you idiot!” Emma yelled at Constantine, “You’re not strong enough, don’t go head-to-head with it!”

However, Constantine paid no heed. At this moment, all he could hear was the noisy whisper of the swarm of insects, which fueled his rage and made him want to eliminate this menacing monster once and for all.

Then the enormous insect shadow slowly descended from the top of the church—it had made a choice between two prey.

Namos opened its gaping maw and approached Constantine. The terrifying pressure grew stronger with its approach, as if even the surrounding air was being compressed into solidity, making Constantine's limbs stiff and unable to move. However, Constantine was still filled with rage. He stared intently at Namos's figure, completely unaware that his body was experiencing bile reflux due to intense fear, as if it were living separately from his brain.

"Constantine, step back!"

Emma screamed again, but to no avail; her voice was muffled and indistinct to Constantine, as if coming through a barrier.

As Namos drew closer, a human-like smile appeared on its insect-like face. It stretched out its long tongue and slowly swallowed Constantine's anger—fear, thirst, flesh and blood, whatever the food, it accepted without hesitation.

Only after his anger was completely consumed did Constantine finally come to his senses.

"Oh my god, what am I doing?"

Just then, Namos's long, thin tongue stretched out in front of Constantine's eyes. Having finished eating fear, it was about to begin consuming flesh and blood.

"Damn it, this thing is trying to kiss me!"

At that moment, Emma's desperate cries finally broke through the barrier and rang out like thunder in Constantine's ears.

"John, run!"
