Chapter 270: Changing the Heaven and the Sun
Chapter 270: Changing the Heaven and the Sun
A strange buzzing sound echoed in the sky above New York City.
It was the moment between dawn and dusk, just minutes before the city was about to awaken, when the first light of day had not yet appeared and the night was drawing to a close.
On the rooftop of the Midnight Mansion, Constantine, Old Man Midnight, and Lester stared blankly into the darkness. They weren't looking at the city lights below, but at something much larger and more complete in the sky.
Tens of millions, or even hundreds of millions, of buzzing, invisible things swirled freely in the night sky. Occasionally, ordinary passersby on the street would hear a strange noise, look up, and only see a pitch-black sky.
From the perspective of the three on the rooftop, a vast black cloud, composed of tiny flying spirits thirsting for flesh and blood, was boiling, churning, and coalescing. They gradually synchronized in the night sky, and billions of noises slowly began to resonate, gradually synchronizing, until finally transforming into a chant of a higher level and frequency that was imperceptible to the human ear, echoing wildly above the city like the resounding tolling of a great bell.
The three could not hear the sound, but they felt something strange coming from the void, which made them instantly understand Namos—it craved flesh and desire and transmitted this greedy desire to the city.
All three of them vaguely sensed that something strange and enormous was taking shape in the darkness of the night.
An invisible behemoth moved between the skyscrapers, and a terrifying sense of oppression gradually spread throughout the city. The behemoth was neither visible nor audible in the darkness, but the group of people could clearly feel its presence.
The big sound is loud, the elephant is invisible.
Lester looked at the calm night sky and couldn't help but let out a desperate groan.
"My God, that's it, it must be it!"
Constantine and Midnight Father were sweating profusely. They were both highly skilled and experienced mages who could vaguely sense the figure in the void through some kind of spirituality.
Giant, invisible insect wings blotted out the entire sky, slender limbs stretched across several city blocks, and greedy tongues licked at the desires of half of New York—unlike its compressed state inside the church, its true form had expanded to an unbelievable degree.
咕咚
Constantine couldn't help but swallow hard: "Dude, it's huge. I feel like I've only ever seen something like this in Godzilla."
"Are you sure Godzilla is this big?" Midnight Daddy couldn't help but adjust his top hat. "We have to deal with this evil spirit today, otherwise, New York City will be a ghost town in less than a month."
"You seem to have a lot of confidence in New York."
As the two were talking, the first rays of sunlight rose above the horizon.
"Om~"
The figure approached the building, and as it drew closer, the scent of Lester in the center of the blood magic circle became increasingly distinct; this made Namos restless, it made it drool, and it made it overjoyed.
So it stretched out its body, ready to enjoy this sumptuous and delicious meal.
When they saw the overwhelming swarm of insects appear in the dust and light, the three of them tensed up.
"Why didn't you keep your friend here?" Midnight, suppressing a shiver of fear, said to Constantine, "I really want to get to know this master who could seriously injure Namos and seal him away for a whole night."
“There’s no point in saying all this,” Constantine replied. “The die is cast.”
Lester had already witnessed the horrific effects of possession once, so his screams and howls were especially loud.
"No, no! Let me go, let me go, please!"
However, neither of them paid any attention to his shouts, and they just stared intently at the swarm of insects.
"John, it's too strong, you can't catch it! The magic bottle is already full! Where's the magic bottle, buddy?"
Lester, who had been screaming, suddenly quieted down: "John, you didn't take the bottle, how are you going to catch it?"
Constantine did not answer.
"No, no, you can't—please don't do this." Constantine still didn't answer, but silently performed the sacrificial gesture together with Old Man Midnight.
The black swarm of insects finally reached them, completely obscuring the morning light and casting a massive shadow over the entire rooftop. The dense, twisting insects formed a giant fly, hurtling towards Lester's face with a deafening buzzing sound.
"No!" Having finally realized the truth, Lester let out a final, desperate curse: "Constantine! You bastard!!!"
The black blizzard engulfed the three of them.
The buzzing insects pelted the bodies of the three men like snowflakes. If they were to attack Constantine or Midnight immediately, all three would surely die.
Constantine was expressionless, Lester was pale and desperate, and Midnight grinned, revealing a cold smile.
The moment Namos touched Lester's body, it was as if a shark had smelled blood. Like many of those who had been seduced by it, it was completely unable to control its greed and began to let it grow wildly.
Then, it began to swarm into Lester's body. Constantine only made eye contact with him for a moment through the swarm, and then he could no longer hear him make any sound.
The hungry spirit finally entered his body completely.
"I need to be quick," Constantine thought to himself, his hand moving swiftly as he pierced Lester's skin with the tattoo design that bound the devil.
When Lester woke up, he was already wearing a prisoner's straitjacket again.
His fists clenched tightly, a buzzing sound came from his mouth, and his eyes were fixed on Constantine and Midnight, as if he was about to jump up and tear their flesh apart at any moment. But after struggling for a few minutes, he went limp and sat back down in his chair.
“John, you’re a damn thing,” he said in a human voice, which relieved the two men.
“I’m glad you weren’t controlled by Namos.” Constantine patted him on the shoulder. “We should go.”
"You might as well just kill me to save me from this torture."
“I can’t do it, my friend—and I can’t do it either. If I kill you, then Moss will come out.”
Constantine waved to Midnight: "You don't need to see us off. We have to leave today."
“Leave?” Midnight frowned. “I have the barns, you don’t, Constantine. We have to make sure Namos is completely finished.”
“I know,” Constantine replied. “That’s why I had to take him to the Sultan—remember? The old priest is there; only he can ensure that this hungry spirit never returns.”
“Don’t be soft-hearted, Constantine.” After a moment’s hesitation, Midnight nodded. “We’ve done so much, and if anything goes wrong, it will all be for nothing.”
You can rest assured.
Lester changed his clothes, and the two went downstairs. A taxi was already waiting at the street corner.
A gaunt figure opened the car door and asked the two men timidly, "John, how is the situation?"
Constantine did not answer; his mind was in turmoil.
“It’s over.” Ma Zhaodi’s voice suddenly came from Lester’s mouth.
"You owe me a life, Gary."
