Chapter 431 How could Batman be so evil?
"Barry, how did you get here?!"
Bruce asked, half surprised and half tentatively, "It's only been half an hour since we called you."
"Huh? Uh, actually I wasn't in the central city before."
Barry on the other end of the phone was so excited that he became slow to think. It took him several seconds to realize that he was so excited that he used the Speed Force to run to Gotham City. But he was so eager to see Nora Allen that he didn't change his story and instead told another lie.
“I was planning to take the train to Metropolis, you know, to see Superman and stuff, he’s so cool, I love him—but I got a call on the train, so I decided to just get off in Gotham City.”
"Did your father travel with you? I heard his voice on the phone before."
"Yes, yes, he traveled with me."
Are you all coming to pick up Ms. Nora?
"what?"
Barry paused for a few seconds before replying again, "That's right, we'll come together to pick them up."
“Alright, I’ll send you my location.” Bruce asked, “Where are you now? Maybe I can send someone to pick you up?”
"No need, no need. I might be a little longer before I arrive, so you don't need to pick me up."
"not yet?"
"Not yet, uh, I mean, the train is actually almost here, I just wanted to call ahead to ask."
"Approximately how long will it take?"
"Twenty minutes, it must be over in twenty minutes."
Look at what you've done to the child!
Poor Barry, Ma Zhaodi thought to himself, having been tricked by Batman's series of questions and left speechless, and now he had to run back to Central City to bring his father back.
Ugh, how could Batman be so evil?
Upon hearing Barry's answer, Bruce frowned. Combining the information revealed by Ma Zhaodi and the four people who had been smuggled over, and hearing that Barry had arrived in Gotham City from Central City in just one hour, along with the news and information he had found in Central City, he had already formed a basic guess about Barry.
Therefore, his expected response should be between one hour and fifty minutes.
Twenty minutes? Can he really go that fast at full speed?
Seeing Bruce's slightly thoughtful expression, Ma Zhaodi immediately knew that the guy was up to no good again—when Batman starts thinking, it usually means he's brewing something wicked.
Of course, you could call it a stereotype, but based on Ma Zhaodi's own experience, 99% of the stereotypes people have about Batman are correct.
“I guess he’s already calculating his speed based on Barry’s answer,” Ma Zhaodi thought. “But the Flash’s speed can basically keep increasing with training and time. Experienced speedsters can run through walls in a straight line and even float on water, so twenty minutes probably isn’t Barry’s limit.”
Thinking of this, he subconsciously picked up his phone and checked the latest news in Central City—it seemed that the Flash of this universe had been active in Central City for quite some time and had fought against a considerable number of enemies. Given his growth time and combat experience, his speed was definitely more than one or two times faster than Barry at this point in time in the universe he had smuggled himself into, and he could probably even easily defeat Reverse-Flash and Zoom.
Perhaps from Barry's perspective, he had already tried his best to slow down his pace to get to Gotham City, and before he got through to Bruce, he might have thought that his timing was perfect.
One could say they were somewhat rational, but not much.
Nora Allen, standing to the side, listened to Bruce's conversation with the young man on the phone. Her unease was almost palpable. She didn't believe that the man was her son, Barry Allen, so she was a little scared when he said he would come to pick her up. Only when she heard that Henry Allen was coming along did she show a slightly relieved expression.
It had been more than ten hours since she arrived in Gotham yesterday. After calming down a bit, she realized that Mr. Bruce Wayne didn't seem like a bad person. There was no reason for such a wealthy and powerful family to kidnap an ordinary housewife like her from Central City.
"Do you want to go inside and wait?" Ma Zhaodi noticed her unease and pointed inside the door: "There are quite a few children living here, they are all very cute, you can have some cookies with them."
So, a bewildered Nora played with Bruce, Mazhaodi, and the children for twenty minutes. It has to be said that children have an advantage over adults in calming people down and putting them at ease, especially for Nora, whose son is still young. These orphans reminded her of her own Barry.
I wonder how he is now.
Twenty minutes later, the door was knocked on time, and Barry Allen arrived in Gotham City with his father, Henry Allen.
Nora Allen saw Henry at the door the moment she looked at him. While feeling happy and relaxed, she noticed that her husband's face seemed to have aged much more, as if he had aged more than ten years in an instant.
"Henry?"
She turned her head in confusion and looked at Barry beside her.
Just like the voice she heard on the phone, the Barry who appeared before her was indeed a tall and handsome young man. He looked to be in his early twenties and was definitely not the small figure she remembered.
Yet he also had a strangely familiar quality to him. Although his face and voice were quite unfamiliar, Nora could see her son's features, mannerisms, and eyes from the moment she first saw him.
"Barry?"
She involuntarily uttered the name, and for some reason, she felt a sense of certainty from the bottom of her heart that the young man in front of her was indeed her son, Barry Allen. Perhaps the age didn't match, but the person was definitely him.
"mom"
Watching Barry sobbing uncontrollably while hugging Nora, Ma Zhaodi understood his feelings. For every Flash, the death of their mother is an unforgettable pain, and seeing Nora Allen alive again is a fantasy that can only be realized in their dreams.
The Flash can never save his mother, because his mother's death created the world the Flash is in now. He chose one side, and the other side will be erased from the timeline.
"Let them cry for a while." Looking at the family of three who were sobbing uncontrollably, Ma Zhaodi gave Bruce a look, signaling that he could leave.
Bruce glanced at Barry Allen, then decisively turned and left.
