Chapter 456 One False God
Chapter 456 A False God
Clark's well-intentioned reminder sounded almost like a hellish joke at this point.
One second he was reminding two high school students to watch out for cars when crossing the road, and the next second the armored truck came speeding towards them.
If those two children had actually been run over, the scene would have been a complete hellish joke, but thankfully Clark was there, so there was no hellish part, just a slightly chaotic scene.
"You guys leave quickly!"
Clark instantly appeared in front of the armored truck. He knew how to stop it, so he grabbed the front of the truck with both hands and lifted it gently.
Crunch——
With a sickening metallic creak, the front wheels of the armored truck were lifted off the ground, causing it to lose power and its forward momentum to slow down rapidly, but the vehicle's enormous inertia continued to propel it forward.
Clark then exerted force again, lifting his feet slightly off the ground, choosing to use flight rather than relying on the friction of the road surface to stop the car.
call--
A sonic boom, as if flesh were tearing through the air, resounded from the sky. A figure dressed in a blue uniform arrived at the scene. His attire was somewhat similar to Clark's, but he wore a cape with a star-spangled banner pattern and two eagle-head-shaped shoulder pads on his uniform, clearly expressing his inclinations and stance.
Such a hero uniform design, clearly incorporating political elements, would be almost impossible to find in Clark and Mazhaodi's main universe.
"Hey you--"
Also arriving at the scene was a woman dressed in light black armor with silver accents, who looked remarkably like Diana from the main universe, the female warrior from Paradise Island.
She jumped from the top of the building and landed directly on the ground, while the man in the Stars and Stripes cape slowly flew down from the sky. Their entrances were very similar, both descending from the sky to save the world.
However, when they landed, no one immediately cheered or reached out to them.
Because everyone was watching the figure on the street holding up the armored truck.
The red cape fluttered slightly, and the blue battle suit was well-proportioned and long, highlighting the steel body with sharp angles like an ancient Roman sculpture. On the powerful and beautiful muscle lines, the bright red "S" shone brightly in the sunlight.
If someone were to imagine the image of a deity, then the person before them would undoubtedly be the one most widely recognized as having recently been deified.
Clark didn't understand why everyone around him was staring at him like that. He was well-liked by many people in the metropolis, but it wasn't common for people to look at him like that, as if he had done something extraordinary.
Isn't this just a superhero's daily routine?
Clark, who considered himself human, did not understand how conspicuous the divinity within him was.
He gently placed the armored truck on the street and breathed a sigh of relief. After losing most of his strength, he had much better control over himself. At this point, the armored truck was only slightly twisted and deformed at the front, and was otherwise intact.
As a long-established superhero, Clark's principle of minimizing property damage when saving people has almost become instinctive.
"Um, gentlemen, could you please come out for a moment?"
He politely asked the driver of the armored truck, "I don't want to fight you. You can't escape anyway. Surrendering yourself will get you a reduced sentence."
The robbers in the car and the passenger seat, who had been trembling as they picked up their guns with fierce glints in their eyes, seemed ready to fight to the death, but upon hearing Superman's words, they both froze.
Aren't you going to kill us?
Clark was stunned: "Me? Why would I kill you?"
"We...we are criminals."
"Oh, then naturally a judge will try you."
"?"
The two robbers exchanged glances, but they weren't stupid. When they glanced out the car window, they saw that Homelander and Queen Maeve had arrived. At this point, resisting would offer virtually no chance of escape.
"Okay."
They obediently dropped their guns, got out of the car, and lay down on the ground, cooperating perfectly throughout.
“Oh, and this guy in the back.” Clark knocked on the back of the armored truck. “Your accomplice has already surrendered. There’s no point in you holding out alone.”
"I surrender! I surrender! Don't kill me!"
As a voice came from the back of the car, a gun was thrown out of the vehicle, and the last bandit obediently came out and lay down with his two companions.
"Are you Homelander? But you don't look like him at all."
“Me? No, I’m not. I’m Superman. You can call me Clark.”
At this point, Homelander, who was standing by, finally couldn't stand it anymore.
Today should have been a beautiful, sunny day, but the Vought Corporation sent him and Queen Maeve an urgent message saying that an armored truck had been robbed, so the two rushed to the scene.
Homelander descends from the sky! Homelander kills the criminals! Homelander saves the citizens! Homelander poses for photos with the others, and then, amidst the gasps, adoration, and admiration of the crowd, soars into the sky and disappears from the scene.
Then, if his approval rating among the citizens rose by a few percentage points, Water Corporation would reward him—that's how it was supposed to be.
He never expected that an unknown nobody would suddenly appear out of nowhere and steal his thunder.
He watched the man lift the armored truck and put it down again, admired his handsome face and perfect physique, and his gentle demeanor—but when he looked around, he found Queen Maeve, like the other citizens, staring blankly at this suddenly appearing, unfamiliar hero, her eyes practically drooling.
This ignited a burning jealousy within him.
The man in front of her resembled her in every way—uniform, persona, even abilities: super strength, X-ray vision, and the ability to fly.
He should be my inferior imitation, he must be, that's what the father thinks.
But when he saw the respectful and admiring looks that people around him gave Clark, those looks only made him angrier.
That's mine!
Despite the veins bulging on his forehead, Homelander restrained his urge to punch his opponent to pieces, because he was a hero.
A hero cannot do bad things in public; otherwise, his approval rating will plummet.
“Hi Clark.” He forced a smile and walked over. “Well done, you’re lucky to be here—judging by your uniform, are you a fan of mine too?”
"Um, sir, I'm sorry. I don't usually pay much attention to superheroes."
Clark asked somewhat apologetically, "Are you Homelander?"
"That's right, I am. I guess you must be a rookie hero."
The anger in the heart of the father surged even higher. He glanced at the three criminals out of the corner of his eye and smiled at Clark, "Otherwise, you wouldn't be so soft-hearted. When dealing with criminals, it's best to be tough to prevent them from playing tricks and harming innocent citizens."
As he said this, Homelander suddenly picked up three robbers from the ground and threw them all into the air.
"See, this is how citizens are safe."
