Chapter 484 Beyond Visual Range Shooting
Chapter 484 Beyond Visual Range Shooting
Following the splattered blood, along the direction from which the bullets flew, and through the air where a storm of metal was constantly falling, a completely different scene unfolded at the heavy machine gun position a few kilometers away.
Kyle held up his binoculars and shouted anxiously.
"Damn it, stop, stop now! There are almost no survivors on the other side, they're all dead, how the hell am I supposed to write the report?"
"Captain, please, let me fire just one more round. This is the first time I've pulled the trigger since I joined the expedition!"
"Shut up. Let me tell you, we have plenty of enemies. We've declared war on the entire North. How could we be short of enemies? Besides, you're so far away, you can't even see how the fighting is going. What's the point?"
The soldier scratched his head and looked at the machine gun position beside him.
This was a setup they had made in advance. While the allied forces of the three dukes were still marching leisurely, the expeditionary force had already lined up heavy machine guns, calculated the firing parameters according to the firing table, and prepared to conduct beyond-visual-range firing.
The resistance had long been prepared to confront the Northern army head-on, so they had no shortage of heavy firepower. They simply unloaded the equipment from the train and fixed it in place to create heavy machine gun positions.
The allied forces of the three dukes marched in a very dense formation and followed the road, making it very easy to determine the firing range. For the expeditionary force, it was practically an easy target.
When the Expeditionary Force's machine gun positions opened fire, they were still more than a kilometer away from the Allied forces. At this distance, thanks to the Expeditionary Force's deliberate cover, the Allied forces couldn't even hear the gunfire.
No gunshots could be heard, no flashes of light could be seen; the whistling of bullets was like the whisper of death, and in the instant one heard it, there was no time to see the world one last time.
The annihilation of the allied forces was a desperate act; they died without ever knowing what had attacked them or where the attack had come from.
This is the terror of beyond-visual-range strikes.
More than 30 heavy Gatling guns unleashed over 15,000 rounds of ammunition in two minutes, and that was with them holding back. If they didn't care about barrel life at all, that number could have doubled—and they certainly didn't care about barrel life, since spare parts for these guns were sold by the box on the vehicle.
The coalition forces' dense formation and their inability to flee made them perfect targets. The first bullets that fell could end several lives, but the later ones only made the bloody mess on the ground more even.
Under Kyle's command, a cavalry unit that had been preparing for some time quickly charged out from near the train. They were responsible for taking over the battlefield and charged out in high spirits amidst the envious gazes of the others.
They soon became less happy—wherever the allied forces were, it had become a true hell.
The Gatling gun, which was translated as Gatling gun or Gatling gun in the history of Earth, was officially issued to the army after being improved by Hughes.
The Christian Guard preferred to call it a Gatling gun because of its terrifying firepower.
It was designed from the beginning to be used as heavy firepower, and it does not use rifle bullets, but specially made bullets with a propellant charge that is nearly twice that of rifle bullets.
Wherever a bolt-action rifle hits, it leaves a bloody hole in the flesh; wherever a heavy machine gun hits, there is no more flesh or blood.
It can easily tear apart the human body, whether it's flesh, bones, or armor, it makes no difference.
Therefore, when the cavalry arrived at the location of the allied forces, they were completely stunned.
This place is almost entirely filled with severed limbs and broken bodies; there are hardly any intact torsos to be seen.
If the corpse had been cut by a cold weapon, it would at most be fragments. But the enormous kinetic energy from a heavy machine gun bullet twisted the flesh and bones like a rag.
Many people had their limbs broken, with the shattered, torn muscle tissue protruding outwards.
It was less a corpse and more a pile of rotting flesh.
Occasionally a few lucky ones survived, but they had completely lost all will to fight, becoming as listless and helpless as lambs, ready to be slaughtered. A soldier from the expeditionary force later wrote in a report: "Those corpses were like watermelons run over by a train; not a single intact bone could be found."
Hunter crawled out from the pile of corpses.
He stared blankly at everything around him; the ground was red, everything around him was red, and even the sky seemed to be red.
The sluggish brain seems to have gone on strike, unwilling to think about anything in front of it—this is a good thing.
Hunter tried to stand up twice but failed. Instead, his hand was caught in a piece of intestine. He looked down and checked himself. He found that his legs were still there. Stepping on the ground felt like standing on a half-meter-thick wool carpet, soft and warm.
He saw the expeditionary force cavalry approaching, pointing their dark gun barrels at him.
Hunter breathed a sigh of relief and gave a relieved smile: "Great, you're here—are you going to kill me or rescue me? Either way, just let me get out of here, whatever you want."
His sincere words, coupled with his blood-covered smile, made the soldiers of the expeditionary force tremble with fear. He and the other surviving soldiers were escorted to the rear by the expeditionary force.
Near the armored train, Kyle stood to one side, watching the political commissar reprimand the soldiers. After a long while, the political commissar sighed and walked over.
"How's the morale? They seem pretty excited."
"Sigh, Captain Kyle," the political commissar sighed, "the soldiers are too impetuous and underestimate the enemy. We need to find some more realistic opponents to fight before we fight another battle like this."
He glanced at the soldiers leaning against the machine gun, bragging, and shook his head.
Kyle quickly nodded in agreement: "No problem, I will definitely find a way to overcome the difficulties and try my best to find some suitable opponents for the soldiers."
As for where to find it
"The North is so vast, surely there must be some serious battles that can't be fought."
Kyle muttered.
Kyle was still worried when he suddenly heard a metallic clanging sound behind him.
The expeditionary force members all turned around, and then slowly raised their heads.
Three towering steel giants appeared before the group, their heavy steel armor dragging on the ground. Each of their six arms held a different weapon: a dragon's breath cannon and a Gatling gun mounted on their armor. Their eyes beneath their helmets emitted a ghostly light, like messengers of hell tolling the death knell for their enemies.
It is a harbinger of death.
"Where is the enemy? We're here to provide support. They shouldn't be engaged in battle yet, right?" A deep voice came from under the helmet.
"Uh"
Kyle scratched his head awkwardly.
"We haven't engaged in battle yet, but our bullets have already touched down."
Time seemed to stand still. After a moment, the leading banshee took off her helmet, and her golden hair slid down.
Nini's voice was somewhat exasperated: "They're already done?! It's only been a few minutes? You guys were so fast? What were we even here for?"
"Well, perhaps you could go and do some interviews and reporting, since you came here as a war correspondent group."
