Industrial Cthulhu, starting from the island lord
Chapter 591 When she arrived, Castel went mad.
Chapter 591 Castel went mad the moment she arrived.
The deep chimes of the bell tower atop Castel's cathedral rang out, the first time it had been rung since its completion.
The workers in the island's factories all looked up in shock towards the direction of the main church, where the friars had begun their charge toward the machine gun positions atop the church.
The sudden appearance of a huge ship near the port triggered Castel's alert mechanism, and he entered a state of emergency according to the contingency plan.
Castel was already highly fortified, with even important factories located within the walls of the church fortress complex.
After the main church bells rang, the surrounding bell towers also rang in turn, their deep tones echoing throughout the entire island.
People all over the island immediately rushed to the nearest entrance to the net tunnel. The deep-sea war had not been going on for more than a few years, and most of the islanders had experienced that period of war, so they reacted instinctively.
Alarms blared throughout the church, and people rushed through the corridors, carrying out the emergency plan efficiently and without chaos.
Soon, squads of fully armed papal guards surged toward the firing ports throughout the church, and machine gun emplacements began loading ammunition; Castells bared his fangs.
At the tallest part of the cathedral, as the friars pulled down the lever, the steam engine roared loudly. After a series of mechanical collisions, a crack appeared in the newly added steel roof of the atrium, which then slowly receded to both sides.
With a rumbling sound, a huge hole appeared in the ground of the courtyard, revealing a complex mechanical structure with countless interlocking gears below.
An airship.
The airship slowly rose, emerging from the gap in the retracted steel roof.
This is a new addition to Castel Cathedral. The airship's airport is located near the port on the outskirts of the island, too far from the central fortress cluster. If an enemy were to invade, it would likely fall immediately.
So several mechanical opening devices were added to the courtyard of Castel Cathedral, and an underground space was expanded from the network passageway to park several airships in the underground helipad.
The cathedral has now closed its land-based access routes, entered a state of combat readiness, and launched airships for reconnaissance.
The islanders outside the fortress quickly returned to the fortress via the underground network tunnels and went to their posts.
Castells's strong reaction was not surprising. While the black ark rising from the sea did resemble Castells in some ways, it was definitely not one of his designs.
It's just too big.
Compared to the entire island of Castells, this steel ark was naturally much smaller, but compared to any ship, it was ridiculously large.
Tata was standing at the lookout point atop the cathedral, his face flushed with excitement as he gazed at the steel ark on the sea: "Look! What a huge ship! I told you ships should be built bigger, bigger is better! Now it seems I was too conservative. A mere thousand-meter ship is simply not enough. Only a ship this big can truly give you that feeling!"
"Oh, how wonderful it would be if I could build such a big ship myself."
He slapped his thigh in frustration.
Nini was also slapping her thigh, or rather, slapping her tail.
"Why didn't I try the process I wrote myself?" Nini slapped her tail with all six hands in frustration. "If I had gone through it like that and summoned such a big guy, even if I died, it would have been worth it!"
"Then why didn't you try it back then?" the succubus next to her asked curiously.
"I'm not stupid, why would I try such a stupid process? I'm really stupid, really."
The female demons nearby took a step back and huddled together, whispering amongst themselves.
"What should we do? Lady Nini seems to have gone mad."
"What is this? Castells syndrome?" "No way, everyone else who comes to Castells goes crazy, but Gwen came and everyone in Castells except her went crazy. This should be called Gwen syndrome."
"So, what do we do next?"
"What else can we do but watch from the sidelines? This thing was summoned by Gwen. If she can control it, all the better. If she can't, we'll call in the airships and bomb her until she can control it. Anyway, the Sky Veil Beast is just sitting on the island. I don't think it has taken off yet. It's probably busy loading bombs."
"What if Gwen can control things, but she chooses to rebel against Castells, attack the cathedral, and seize Hughes's lordship?"
“Nini, go talk to me while you’re on the toilet.”
Several female demons turned towards the direction of the voice, and Nini, as expected, surfaced from the water with an embarrassed smile: "Sorry, sorry, it's just a professional habit."
"The ship is moving!"
The banshees were startled and quickly turned to look at the steel ark behind them.
The sirens were too close to the giant ship; they could only see the sea churning beneath the sheer cliff-like hull. Only from the airships cruising above could they barely make out the whole thing.
Suddenly, the huge ark billowed its sails, and the outer wheels on both sides began to turn, while the underwater propellers churned up a spray of water.
There seems to be no problem.
But upon closer inspection, everything is filled with strangeness.
The billowing sails were nothing more than steel plates bending with effort. The outer wheels on both sides had no bearings; they were simply and crudely glued to the sides of the hull. Yet, they still slowly rotated under some inexplicable force.
As for the underwater propellers, at first glance they seem fine, but upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that each propeller rotates in a different direction.
It was like a giant cosplay, with the ship's structures appearing to be in motion.
It's absurd, like passengers on a train swaying their bodies in self-deception, pretending the train is moving.
But this steel ark has truly begun to move.
The banshee on the airship stared wide-eyed at everything before her, bewildered, unsure whether she herself had gone mad or the world had gone mad.
The sea nymphs sat motionless in the water, watching the steel ark slowly advance, parting the waves, unable to tell whether they were swimming in the Stormy Ocean or the Sea of Oblivion.
The reconnaissance airship that had just taken off from the cathedral stopped in mid-air after witnessing this bizarre scene, then turned around and flew back to the cathedral.
The silence in Castel was deafening.
The more one understands the principles of ships, the more one can feel the indescribable nature of this steel ark. Its eeriness and madness seem to turn reason and knowledge in people's minds into red-hot needles, causing their brains to ache.
This steel ark was a direct attack on Castellstra. The people here had all completed advanced courses and knew the principles of shipbuilding; it would be hard for them not to go crazy.
Of course, there are exceptions.
For example, Gwen.
