Hollywood starts with an agent
Chapter 3: Looking for a needle in a haystack
Chapter 3: Looking for a needle in a haystack
After lunch, Aaron Anderson left CAA to run errands for clients and to look for potential future Hollywood stars!
"Huh," Aaron, having just delivered a check for a star living in Santa Monica, came to the Santa Monica Pier and looked at the Pacific Ocean in front of him, feeling very tactile.
It's certainly not hot in Los Angeles right now, the temperature is even a little cold, but Aaron Anderson still wiped the sweat from his forehead.
In the previous mailroom trial, Aaron Anderson did almost all the odd jobs except for anything related to "brokerage";
CAA only taught me one thing: "The client comes first!"
Now, Aaron Anderson’s job should be to be a talent scout and find himself some clients as soon as possible.
"I need a used car," Aaron Anderson said as he prepared to return to Koreatown to find a used car dealership to buy one.
Two days later, Aaron bought a 680 Chevrolet Cruze for $82 at a used car dealership in Koreatown.
I don’t have to wait for the bus to go to work. Although the car is a bit old, it can at least be used for transportation.
With the arrival of the new year, Aaron Anderson continued to run errands at CAA in the morning, and in the afternoon he visited various Hollywood studios, university film and television schools, and other places in the hope of discovering good talents!
On this day, Aaron Anderson and Jack Wells came to the USC School of Film and Television again.
Aaron exhaled a puff of cigarette. "This needle-in-a-haystack approach to selecting people is like buying the lottery. The chances are too small."
“Better to believe in yourself than in God?”
Jack Wells was somewhat helpless. "What can we do? We're supposed to cast a wide net, discover suitable newcomers, and then find opportunities for them. We still need to expand our network of relationships!"
Aaron frowned. "What about some marginal actors from New York? The probability would be higher, right?"
Aaron also looked forward to meeting a few guys he had memories of from his previous life, but these past few days, he had been wandering around Los Angeles every day and hadn't met any of them?
"A few years ago, many actors who came from New York didn't have professional agents, but there were a lot of good opportunities."
Jack Wells shook his head and said, "But it's hard to find them now. More and more agents are casting a wider net, and even newcomers with some potential are often poached by more experienced agents;"
“It’s better to cultivate from the beginning, plan and package your clients well, build up your reputation, and form a long-term cooperative relationship!”
CAA adopts a joint agent model for big stars, with several agents sharing responsibility;
It is to prevent being poached, but many big stars are tied to their main agents, and poaching stars means poaching their other agents.
"It seems that we should focus on some foreign actors," Aaron thought, or look for some works by new directors. It is always better to find people from the works than to look for a needle in a haystack.
"Okay, let's go have a drink," Aaron didn't bother to think about it anymore. After all, his main purpose as an agent was to get to know more filmmakers.
Aaron focuses on producers, directors, actors and screenwriters.
At night, Aaron returned to the rental house and took out two Glock pistols from under the bed. After playing with the gun assembly for a while, he went out with the pistols.
Not long after, Aaron drove to an empty factory building on the outskirts of East Los Angeles and began to practice shooting on his own. The more he played with the Equality Gun, the more he liked it. Where had he had such an opportunity before?
"Bang, bang, bang..."
"I am really a shooting genius," Aaron couldn't help but sigh to himself when he saw his shooting skills improving rapidly.
Then, he replaced the magazine and continued shooting before driving away!
Beverly Hills, CAA headquarters. "Well, you want to go to the St. Denis Film Festival in Utah, what? Want to try your luck there?"
Paula Wagner was a little surprised to hear Aaron Anderson's idea.
"Great, let's go check it out. Maybe there will be some new independent directors that catch my eye."
Aaron didn't hide anything. "Looking for customers aimlessly like this requires too much luck. It's not what I want!"
Paula Vagla shrugged, "But you're only 19, you haven't been to college, and your interpersonal relationships are extremely simple;"
"The Saint-Denis Film Festival is a platform specifically prepared for independent filmmakers. Are you sure you can find those good films?"
The St. Denis Film Festival was founded by Hollywood star and director Robert Redford and this year is the fifth edition;
The current market and awards are still mainly dominated by traditional studios. Many people are calling for more opportunities for independent films, but the commercial market has its own selectivity.
"I want to give it a try," Aaron said, staring at Paula Vagla. "If I really find a good opportunity, then I need the company's support!"
"That's for sure," Paula Vagla said, nodding, then wrote a check for $1000 and handed it to Aaron. "Tom and I are very satisfied with your performance these days. Take it."
"Well, thank you!"
Aaron took the check and saw the number. He felt good. It was $1000. Tom Cruise and Paula Vagla were quite generous.
Aaron currently only has a little over $3000 in cash, but his salary will be paid soon, and he will have another $2000.
It was worth it that I helped Tom Cruise book a restaurant and arranged for them to spend New Year's Eve together!
The St. Denis Independent Film Festival lasts for more than ten days, and Aaron just arrived there in time. When he returned to his Koreatown apartment, he met his landlord.
"Hi, Aaron, the rent needs to be paid," the bald landlord, licking his lips and touching his belly, stretched out his hand to Aaron with a smile on his face.
"Dear Raphael, you are always so active in collecting rent!"
Aaron pointed at the wooden staircase at the corner and said angrily, "It's too loud in here. Isn't it unsafe? And the lock on the door keeps breaking. You should find someone to fix it!"
"Oh, dear Aaron, the price here determines this condition," Bald Raphael spread his hands, looking helpless, and really deserved a beating.
"Then you remind the neighbors that if they have a party in their room again and disturb me, I will definitely let them know how serious the consequences of my poor sleep will be!"
"Well, I'll remind you of this. You're not the only one who's complained," Raphael decided to wait for the people next door to come back and let them pay attention.
Aaron's temper has obviously become more irritable than before, and he really can't tolerate things that he can't tolerate.
After taking out a prepared check for $150 and handing it to the bald landlord, Aaron opened the door and entered his room;
Pack some clothes and get ready to go to the Saint Denis Film Festival as soon as possible!
