Age: My Small World

Chapter 27 Feed

Chapter 27 Feed
The Yang family's dinner today was indeed a bit luxurious.

Two two-pound fish were stewed with some sweet potato vines.

The sweet potato vines are old at this time of year, but some are still edible.

Yang Jun also secretly added some more soybean oil to make the aroma more intense.

On the table, a pot of stewed fish makes people drool.

I looked at him with heartache, wanting to say something but stopping myself.

"Mom, didn't Xiaoshan say there are a lot of fish there? Don't worry about it." The second sister should be the one who trusted Yang Jun the most, but she didn't ask him where the place was.

"Eat, mom. Are you afraid that your son will become a thief? Besides, I wouldn't dare to do that."

Yang Jun picked up a piece of fish belly meat with chopsticks and urged her to eat it quickly.

"What a mess! How could you possibly steal something?" Li Xiaohua felt a lot more relaxed after hearing what he said.

Being familiar with her son's character, she naturally didn't think that Yang Jun would do anything bad. It seemed that she was really thinking too much.

Picking up the chopsticks, Li Xiaohua did not eat the fish, but instead put the fish meat back into her son's bowl.

"This is what you caught. Eat more, kid. You must be hungry at school today."

As he spoke, he picked up the sweet potato vines and started to eat corn porridge.

Yang Jun was helpless when he saw this, and then he started eating with a grunt.

He finished eating first and said immediately, "I'm done, you guys can eat slowly."

"Hey, hey, hey, the eggs haven't been eaten yet." Li Xiaohua's voice fell behind.

He just waved his hand and said, "I can't eat anymore. You and my elder and second sisters can eat it first."

Yang Jun had the habit of going out for a walk after dinner recently, so the three of them were not surprised.

After leaving the front room, he did not leave immediately, but took two pairs of chopsticks from the chopstick box next to the stove, as he had forgotten to buy them today.

After going out again, he entered the space as usual.

By the small pond.

"These little fish are growing too fast. They've consumed too much of the aquatic plants we collected. I'm afraid the plankton in them has been eaten up too much. We need to find a way to increase the fish feed."

But after thinking about it, he felt that it was unrealistic. Even pig feed was rare nowadays, let alone fish. He still had to find a solution from nature.

"Maybe add some duckweed plants and water hyacinth?"

Water hyacinth was introduced from abroad in the 1930s. It was initially used as pig feed and was later listed as an invasive species because it reproduces so well.

However, considering the growth rate of the fish in the space, Yang Jun felt that it didn't matter. After all, if there were too many water hyacinths, they could be easily dealt with. It would be troublesome if the fish had nothing to eat.

Even if you want to raise other animals in the space in the future, you don’t have to worry about lack of feed.

When I got home, the dinner table had already been cleared. My elder and second sisters were mending clothes on the kang, while my mother was standing beside them with a sad face.

"Mom, what's going on?"

"Xiaoshan, we just weighed the wheat at home and found that dozens of kilograms were missing. Mom said it was because of mice." The eldest sister said gently, with a worried look on her face.

"Hey, so that's what happened? I took the wheat." Yang Jun scooped a pot of water with a ladle and put it on the small stove to boil while talking. He didn't care too much because he knew that his mother would definitely not ask too many questions after knowing this.

As expected, Li Xiaohua breathed a sigh of relief: "I was saying that if there were mice at home, they would steal our food. We have to pay our taxes these days, and we can't let these little creatures cause trouble."

"I'll use all that wheat, don't worry, mother."

"Why should I worry about it if you've used it?" Li Xiaohua didn't even ask, but a smile appeared on her face.

"Is there any other school fees that you haven't told me?"

As I spoke, I stood up.

Yang Jun knew without hesitation that his mother was going to get some money, fearing that he wouldn't have enough. "Mom, don't get any money. It's useless to me even if you take it."

He simply took out the three dollars he had left on him, fifty cents of which was given to him by Li Xiaohua in the morning.

"Yes, there are still so many left, you can take them and put them together."

"Kid? You haven't paid the tuition?" Li Xiaohua was surprised and didn't understand how there could be so much extra money.

Even if the missing twenty kilograms of wheat were sold, it would only be worth two dollars, but the son ended up with three dollars.

"I was fishing. In fact, I sold one today." Yang Jun chuckled. He was telling the truth. This fish was much bigger than he had imagined.

"That makes sense. I think Xiaoshan might have used the wheat to catch fish, mother." The second sister said mischievously.

"Son, you can't use food to catch fish. If you can't catch any, you'll lose a lot. Try a different method next time." Li Xiaohua really believed it.

Yang Jun smiled and rolled his eyes at his second sister. Although it sounded ridiculous, it helped him out of the predicament.

"I know mother."

He stuffed the money into Li Xiaohua's hand and said, "Then keep the money. Just think of it as selling some wheat in advance."

"Okay, I'll put it aside for now. If you need it, just tell me."

After thinking about it, Li Xiaohua took out a dollar and handed it to him: "Take this with you, it will be convenient for you to buy pens and notebooks."

Yang Jun didn't refuse, he took it and put it in his pocket.

"Mom, when is the day for paying taxes? Has it been decided yet?"

"His seventh uncle said that we should go early the day after tomorrow. Hongmei and Yumei will go, and you just study hard."

"On that day, students will definitely have to ask for leave to go home and help. Teachers won't be able to teach, so how can I go to school? So let's just go together." Yang Jun said reasonably, leaving Li Xiaohua unable to refute in an instant.

"It's settled. I'll get up early the day after tomorrow. Don't leave me behind."

"Xiaoshan, I'm worried you can't get up, haha." The second sister took over the conversation.

"What? Can't I stay awake all night?" Yang Jun joked. He knew that the day after tomorrow, everyone would probably set off in the dark at one or two o'clock, and would not wait until seven or eight o'clock to get up.

"What do you mean by not sleeping all night? Go to bed early the day after tomorrow." Li Xiaohua rolled her eyes at the brother and sister, with a look of satisfaction in her eyes.

"Okay, the water is boiling, let's drink some hot water." Yang Jun boiled the water just to let the three of them drink some spiritual water, so he poured a bowl for each of them and secretly added some spiritual water in.

After watching them all drink water, he went into the back room to rest.

The next day, we had corn porridge for breakfast again.

The tortillas were also hot out of the oven.

"You forgot to eat eggs last night. You can eat them on the way."

"Okay, let's go to school and study."

Yang Jun looked at the boiled egg and reached out to take it.

"Then I'm leaving, mother."

After saying that, he headed towards Cheng Xiaoyu's house.

On the way, he touched the still hot tortilla and threw it directly into the space.

When I arrived at Cheng Xiaoyu's house, I didn't find her waiting there.

Just when Yang Jun thought she had left without waiting for him, he heard a crackling sound from inside.

Through the fence, he saw Cheng Xiaoyu chopping wood.

The little girl, who definitely weighed no more than 40 kilograms, was holding an axe and chopping the firewood one stroke at a time. Sweat was streaming down her little face, and it was obvious that she had been working for quite some time.
