Chapter 152 A Mess
"Wes, can I call you that?"

Steve asked, his eyes full of sincerity and anticipation.

Wes turned to look at the man who had made a mark in American history, but thought to himself that although the United States itself did not have a long history.

This man is like a saint thanks to the US military's propaganda.

"Okay." Weiss didn't remain silent. His answer was concise and clear.

Steve breathed a sigh of relief. Being willing to communicate was a good thing.

He began his inspiring speech, talking about how in this time of crisis, everyone must unite to face the threats to the world together.

Weiss applauded him, but his words caught everyone off guard.

"Well said, then tell me your secret from S.H.I.E.L.D."

There was a hint of sharpness in Weiss's eyes.

“???” Nick Fury never expected that the topic would turn to him in the end.

"The thing you're researching is called the 'Space Stone,'" Weiss began to explain to everyone. "It's the most precious treasure in the universe, and also the most powerful weapon."

His voice was steady and powerful, allowing everyone to hear it clearly.

"I could sense the energy fluctuations generated by your research on the Space Stone right here in New York," Weiss scoffed. "You thought your secrecy was flawless, that Earth's technology alone could prevent advanced alien civilizations from investigating? The energy fluctuations from the Space Stone are what attracted the aliens. To the aliens, they're a sign that Earth is preparing for war."

Weiss's words exploded in the conference room like bombshells.

"You're the ones who brought the aliens here, who started the war. You're the ones who caused the trouble and can't solve it yourself, yet you're asking others for help and acting like it's your right. Do you still have any shame in doing this for the sake of all humanity?"

Weiss said all this in one breath, his words were fierce and merciless.

No one expected Wes to be so outspoken, and the news was such important.

"Are you telling the truth??"

Steve realized that he seemed to have been fooled by SHIELD, and his eyes were filled with shock and anger.

Tony and Banner's faces also turned ugly, and they began to re-examine the actions of SHIELD.

"Hehe~he~ As expected, there's not a single truth in the agent's mouth."

Banner stared at Natasha, full of disappointment.

Tony even directly hacked into the S.H.I.E.L.D. system and found that what Wes said was true.

It was indeed SHIELD's research that attracted aliens.

Nick Fury was now on pins and needles. The person he had finally managed to pull up was about to fall over before he could even sit down.

He now regretted provoking Wes. This man seemed to know everything and put his plan in trouble.

"Oh~oh~Everyone calm down." Nick Fury tried to ease the atmosphere, but his reaction was indeed very quick.

"He didn't tell the whole truth. We don't know how to research that..."

"It's the Space Stone," Weiss corrected.

"Okay, it's the Space Stone. We didn't know that studying the Space Stone would have such serious consequences." Nick Fury defended.

"So you admit that the aliens were brought in by SHIELD." Tony pointed out mercilessly.

"We just want to use the power of the 'Space Stone' to better protect the Earth. These are not the first aliens to come to Earth." Nick Fury tried to excuse S.H.I.E.L.D.

"so what……"

In the face of the ironclad facts, Nick Fury's sophistry seems so pale and powerless.

Especially under the questioning of Tony, a genius in both intelligence and eloquence, he almost revealed more secrets.

Just as Tony was about to ask more questions, Maria Hill rescued Nick Fury. "Director, we found the alien."

Maria Hill's voice broke the tense atmosphere.

"Where is it?" Nick Fury asked anxiously, as if he had grabbed a life-saving straw.

"Germany, we have to hurry, he could escape at any moment," Maria Hill replied.

"Everyone, now is not the time to assign blame. The crisis on Earth will not be resolved unless this alien is dealt with!" Nick Fury said loudly.

However, the conference room was silent and no one responded to him.

Finally, Steve stood up, looked at Nick Fury seriously, and said, "You owe me an explanation."

"I will." Nick Fury answered firmly.

"I don't want to stay here for another second. You're polluting the air." Tony stood up and left, his face full of dissatisfaction.

"I don't think you need me." Banner didn't want to get involved in this matter anymore.

"Dr. Banner, we need you..." Nick Fury tried his best to comfort Banner.

"Heh~" Weiss chuckled and left the meeting room.

His laughter was full of sarcasm, as if he was mocking S.H.I.E.L.D.'s overestimation of its own capabilities.

Only Nick Fury and Maria Hill were left in the conference room, and they looked very unhappy.

This meeting did not meet their expectations at all, but instead made the situation more complicated.

They must find a way to resolve this crisis as soon as possible, otherwise they will not be able to control these people.

Steve changed into his iconic combat uniform and boarded the fighter plane with an upright posture.

Natasha skillfully sat in the driver's seat, concentrating on preparing for all the operations before takeoff.

Tony was holding a bag of snacks in his hand, looking nonchalant, as if what he was about to face was not a severe battle but a relaxing journey.

Weiss sat quietly in his seat, his expression calm.

The fighter plane roared as it took off, and the powerful thrust made everyone's bodies lean back slightly.

As the fighter plane gradually rose higher, the scenery below became smaller and smaller, and the outline of the city gradually became blurred.

"What's going on in this world?" Steve asked a soul-searching question, his eyes filled with confusion and bewilderment.

"We defeated Germany. The Red Skull was there to avoid war. Why is the United States now the country that started the war?"

Steve's voice held a hint of anger and disappointment.

"Didn't they learn anything?"

He kept thinking about it, but could not find the answer.

"Steve," Wes said suddenly, "you have to realize that the only lesson humanity has learned from history is that humanity doesn't learn from history."

Wes's words were concise and profound, hitting Steve's heart like a hammer.

Steve wanted to argue, he wanted to defend human progress and change, but in the end he was speechless.

He had to admit that although this sentence was cruel, it did make sense.

Throughout history, human beings have repeated the same mistakes: war, conflict, greed, selfishness, and these problems seem to never be completely solved.

Steve fell into deeper confusion. He didn't know whether the beliefs and values he held on to were still meaningful.
