Chapter 33 A hot potato

Chapter 33 A hot potato

No gunshots could be heard outside the dungeon, but Ou Yang became more and more anxious.

It's almost time for another experiment, and he doesn't know what kind of torture the old pervert, the doctor, will come up with.

The doctor is a very paranoid person. He hates his plans being disrupted the most. He has everything arranged clearly, such as the start and end time, and will not change them easily.

Jing Xueli, who had been quietly huddled in the corner, suddenly raised her head and tensed her body like a leopard about to pounce on its prey.

This is her guard posture.

Ou Yang's heart skipped a beat: Here it comes!

However, no one entered the dungeon, and Jamie suddenly asked, "Torre, Torre?"

"I'm here!" Torre happened to be awake.

"Did you hear that?" Jamie asked nonchalantly.

"What did you hear?"

"Gunshot!" Jamie said anxiously.

Torre listened attentively, then spread his hands and shook his head: "No?"

Ou Yang also pricked up his ears, but apart from the buzzing sound of the ventilation fan, he could not hear any other noise.

"No, it was gunshot!" Jamie said very confidently.

Seeing how determined he was, Ou Yang put his hands over his ears. This time he finally heard some movement and couldn't help feeling a little nervous.

What happened?
With a bang, the bearded man kicked open the door and rushed into the dungeon. He pulled out a pistol, pointed it at Ou Yang, and opened the door: "Go, quickly!"

Shirley suddenly pounced on the bearded man, but was blocked by the railing with a muffled sound.

The bearded man didn't pay any attention to her at all. He stared at Ou Yang and waved his gun.

Ou Yang suppressed his anger and walked out of the dungeon. He was surprised to see the doctor holding a glass jar and a notebook in his arms.

What's going on?
The sound of gunfire became clearer, and the bearded man ordered in a deep voice, "Push the cart this way!"

Ouyang pushed the doctor and jogged along a route he had never taken before.
The sound of gunfire was getting closer and closer, and I had the illusion that I would be involved in a battlefield in the next second.

Ou Yang's thoughts raced through his mind, and he had the urge to escape in the chaos more than once. However, he was not familiar with either the defending side or the attacking side. How desperate must he be to rush into the battlefield without a single thought?

Bullets don't have eyes, and this is not the way to seek death.

After a while, several people rushed to the underground garage and got into a shabby-looking SUV.

In order to facilitate supervision, the doctor sat in the passenger seat, and the bearded man and Ou Yang sat in the back seat.

The SUV started its engine, but before it could leave, a group of disheveled thugs retreated into the basement.

As soon as the two sides met, the scene was visibly awkward.

So we are fighting hard up here, and you are just going to run away without saying a word?
The thugs, who were blood-thirsty, immediately stopped the SUV and pointed their guns into the car.

Ou Yang licked his lips, his heart instantly rising to his throat.

The doctor pressed the remote control, and the wall in front slowly slid open, revealing a secret passage leading to the outside world.

The bearded man opened the car window and gestured to the nearby vehicle: "Get in, let's go!"

No one wanted to risk their own life, so everyone got into the car quickly after hearing this.

But just as they opened the car door and had not yet gotten in, a group of American soldiers rushed into the basement, aiming their guns and cannons, and forced the SUV to stop again.

"Don't move, raise your hands, slowly!" the American soldier said sternly.

Ou Yang had no doubt that any unusual movement by anyone in the car would immediately attract indiscriminate gunfire from the other side.

He stared at the bearded man, praying that he would not do anything stupid at this time.

At this time, ordinary people would definitely choose to surrender, but the desperate criminals who attacked the US military might not do so.

The bearded man sighed and raised his hands quickly enough to avoid misunderstanding. An American soldier stepped forward and opened the car door, discovering three of the four people inside wearing masks, and one, an unprotected Asian man.

He shouted excitedly: "Number 13, number 13 is here——"

At this moment, the doctor pressed the remote control again. There was a slight sound in the corner, and the locked iron door opened. Three men and two women, a total of five severely infected people, slammed the iron door open and flew towards the American soldiers who were shouting.

"Be careful!" other American soldiers shouted and instinctively raised their rifles.

The infected person who was rushing in the front was hit by several bullets, and blood was splattered all over his body, but he was not affected at all. He flew over and knocked down an American soldier and bit his shoulder.

"Fire, fire—"

There was no need for any command, the gunfire had already filled the air.

Ou Yang's eyes widened. Isn't this just a zombie? Or an advanced version with even faster speed?

While the American soldiers were being entangled by the infected, the bearded man didn't even bother to close the car door and slammed the driver's seat back: "Go, go, go!"

The driver stepped on the accelerator, the wheels made a harsh friction sound, the SUV suddenly accelerated into the passage, and the fierce gunshots quickly faded away.

Ou Yang immediately covered his head and bent over, trying hard to get under the seat.

The car body shook violently, and then suddenly fell down lightly and heavily. Ou Yang's forehead hit the backrest of the passenger seat, and he grimaced in pain.

"It's okay, get up." The bearded man looked mocking and muttered disdainfully, "Coward."

Ou Yang sat up as if nothing had happened, and let out a sigh of relief. He turned around and looked, but he didn't see the factory building or the American soldiers.

The SUV sped along, everyone was preoccupied with their own thoughts, and the air was almost frozen.

The scene of those severely infected people being shot repeatedly replayed in Ou Yang's mind. He couldn't help but ask, "Were those people just now all severely infected?"

The bearded man glanced at Ou Yang and said nothing.

The doctor nodded decisively: "Yes!"

"Are they zombies? I mean, why do they look like zombies?" Ou Yang asked uneasily.

He knew that Shirley's condition was very bad, but he didn't expect that the infected at this stage would be so aggressive.

"Of course not," the doctor said. "They are just patients with deep parasitism."

"What constitutes deep parasitism?"

The doctor thought for a moment and said, "Torrey is moderately parasitic, and Shirley is severely parasitic."

Ou Yang understood it immediately. What he meant was that the severity of the disease had nothing to do with the condition. Being lucid for a while and confused for a while was considered moderate, while being completely confused was considered severe, right?

He quickly asked, "Is there any hope?"

The doctor hugged his laptop tightly: "Not yet."

"Will the infection progress to this point?"

"I don't know, let me be quiet for a while!"

Ou Yang stopped talking.

The epidemic is a natural disaster. As long as enough resources are invested, it can be brought under control no matter how serious the situation is. However, once the infected people show signs of zombie-like tendencies, the situation will be completely different.

If they were real zombies, the United States could have killed them ruthlessly and eliminated all infected people physically as quickly as possible, thus ending the epidemic.

Anyway, zombies are just moving corpses, and there will be no legal or other trouble if they die again.

But the infected are just parasitic fungi, they are still living people. Killing them is unrealistic, there is no way to treat them, isolation is risky, and leaving them alone is even worse. We can't just sit and watch the infected attack innocent ordinary people, right?
Neither left nor right is right, it's really a hot potato!
