The Uncrowned King of the Peninsula
Chapter 16, Section 2
Chapter 16 Second Principle
"Is Ernie asleep?"
"Yes, Miss Gu is resting." The nurse on duty glanced down at the medical records. "Sorry, it's too late now. No visitors are allowed without the patient's consent."
Choi Sulli glanced at Bae Yongjun beside her, nodded to the nurse, and the two walked aside.
"Editor-in-chief, I'm sorry, unnie is asleep. I'll give her the things when she wakes up, okay?" she asked Bae Yongjun.
"Xullixi, don't ask me, the video has already been given to you." Pei Yongjun pointed to the two memory cards, one large and one small, in her hand.
"Thank you, thank you so much. I don't know what would have happened without you." Choi Sulli tightly grasped the memory card, looking at Bae Young-jun's handsome features in front of her, her heart filled with emotion.
It was the person in front of her who extended a helping hand at the most dangerous moment, and Goo Hara's life almost fell into the abyss.
"Horaone and I will never forget your help." She bowed deeply. "I'm sorry for what I said to you during the day. Please forgive me."
"It's nothing, it's just a reporter's job." Pei Yongjun didn't take it to heart.
"Being scolded?"
Pei Yongjun nodded, "It's a common thing."
Cui Xueli burst out laughing, "That, that's really..."
"Anyway, I'm sorry. If you'll forgive me, just call me by my first name, Shirley or Mari." She pursed her lips, looking a little nervous. "Is that okay?"
"Okay, then..." Pei Yongjun hesitated for a moment, "Sulli?"
"Yes," Choi Sulli replied with a smile as sincere as early spring, "Thank you so much."
Her eyebrows were curved and her dark eyes were shining. Pei Yongjun couldn't take his eyes off her for a moment.
"Does it look good? Editor-in-chief nim?" Choi Sulli curled up a strand of hair with her white and tender fingertips, blinked her eyes, and smiled even more happily.
"I told you that you look beautiful when you smile." Pei Yongjun just kept looking at her, and Cui Xueli's cheeks turned slightly red.
"I, I'll go to the nurse's desk to ask how unnie is doing." She suddenly let go of her hair, turned around and walked quickly towards the duty desk. Her hurried footsteps concealed her pounding heart.
Pei Yongjun glanced at her back, then turned and walked towards the bathroom in the corridor.
He stood in front of the pool, rolled up his shirt sleeves, took out a bottle of alcohol from his pocket, and rubbed it on the tattoos on his arms and neck. Then he waited for a few minutes and rubbed them with his fingers dipped in clean water. The colorful tiger became blurred little by little and finally disappeared.
After cleaning the tattoo and adjusting the collar of his shirt in front of the mirror, Pei Yongjun was thinking about the magical fragment of the truth when he suddenly heard Choi Sulli's voice coming from outside.
"What? You!"
He walked out quickly and saw Choi Sulli standing in the middle of the hall holding her cell phone.
"What's wrong?" Bae Yong-jun walked to her side, and Choi Jong-bum's voice came from her cell phone.
"Hey, Choi Sulli! I'm at the police station right now. If you don't want to make a big deal out of this!" He roared viciously, "You know what to do!"
After hanging up the phone, Choi Sulli looked at Bae Yongjun, "It's Choi Jong-bum!"
"I heard it." Pei Yongjun smiled at the nurse who was glaring at the two of them, and pulled Cui Xueli to the corner of the hall. "What did he say?"
Cui Xueli frowned, her voice trembling, "He said that I hired someone to beat him up and rob him. He told me not only to give him the money, but also double it, otherwise..."
"Otherwise he will call the police and let everyone know, and even arrest you and me, right?" Pei Yongjun continued.
"...Yes." She lowered her head, as if she didn't know what to do.
"Haven't you called the police yet?"
"No, he said he would wait until 12 noon tomorrow."
Choi Jong-Bum was like a thorn in his flesh, gnawing at her and Goo Hara tightly, and the joy of getting the video back just now was mostly diluted.
The actress hired someone to injure and rob people. What's even worse is that the injuries were real. Not to mention herself, if the case is really investigated, Pei Yongjun might also be implicated.
Choi Sulli was in a state of confusion, but Pei Yongjun's words made her suddenly look up.
"Shirley, do you want to agree?"
Pei Yongjun was looking at her.
"I..." Choi Sulli also looked at him.
She was speechless for a moment, and no one knew what she was thinking in the depths of her bright eyes.
Pei Yongjun waited quietly.
"...I won't agree to it." Choi Sulli seemed to have made up her mind and shook her head slowly and firmly, "I won't agree to it this time."
"What about you? What are you going to do?" "I won't give him any more money. If he wants to call the police, then go ahead. I'm already a crazy woman in everyone's eyes anyway!" Her eyes were full of stubbornness. "Catch me if you want to. Come after me!"
"I'm not afraid!"
Bae Yong-jun looked at Goo Hara's ward deep in the corridor, then turned his head and stared at Choi Sulli's unyielding eyes.
"Sulli, I want Haraxi to be interviewed."
"Mo?" Choi Sulli's pupils shrank. "Interview?"
"Yes." Pei Yongjun nodded, "Can you help me persuade her?"
Choi Sulli neither nodded nor shook her head, as nightmarish memories flooded into her mind.
Flashbulbs, microphones, a swarm of reporters, and a barrage of negative reviews. Having weathered the storm of public opinion, she understands better than anyone the fear of public opinion.
"If you tell anyone, Hola O'Neill won't be able to handle it. So many cameras, so many flashes, so many microphones. Even if you've done nothing wrong, what's the point?"
"I can do whatever I want, but Holaoni..."
"I would rather die than let her be hurt like this."
"I'm sorry, editor-in-chief..." She lowered her eyes, her tone full of apology.
"What if Choi Jong-Bum finds another excuse? What if he threatens Hara-xi? Will this be the last time?"
Cui Xueli bit her lips tightly and remained silent.
"Public opinion is terrifying. I'm a journalist, and I understand it better than you do," Pei Yongjun continued. "It's incredibly powerful, like a divine sword. No one can stop it."
"It can hurt people, but..." He paused, "It can also protect people."
"Protector?"
"Yes, Shirley, don't be afraid of it, use it and tame it."
"Use it to get rid of Choi Jong-Bum and protect Hara-xi."
"Can I really?" Her voice trembled.
"I'll help you, trust me."
"Why? Why are you still helping me? Don't you already know the truth..." She muttered to herself, "Why..."
"Protecting informants is the only way to protect the truth." Pei Yongjun's eyes were blazing. "As a journalist, the second rule is to protect informants, no matter what."
"Informant?"
"Yes, Shirley, you are already my informant."
Choi Sulli stared at him blankly.
Pei Yongjun took out a business card from his pocket, put it in her palm, held her five fingers together, and squeezed it tightly, as if holding a powerful sword.
"Sulli, let's pick up the sword together, get rid of him and protect her." Pei Yongjun said firmly.
Cui Xueli's dark eyes flickered, reflecting his sword-like eyebrows and star-like eyes, shining with a cold light.
"Do you want to?"
"If you're willing, I urge you to agree, and then call me."
After Pei Yongjun finished speaking, he released his right hand, took two steps back, and turned away.
Only by protecting witnesses can journalists have news.
Shirley, take up your sword for our common goal.
Walking down the corridor, Pei Yongjun thought silently in his heart.
Choi Sulli watched his back disappear in the distance, and slowly walked to the window at the door of Goo Hara's ward.
Goo Hara's face was pale and her lips were bloodless without her makeup. Her thin body was curled up in the quilt. Her exposed wrists were bruised and her chest rose and fell slowly with her breathing.
Goo Hara was sleeping soundly.
"Ouni..." Choi Sulli looked at her, tightly clutching the business card in her hand, "I want to protect you."
