Industrial Revolution of the Mage Lords
Chapter 339 Ash's Wish
Chapter 339 Ash's Wish
"Harvey, is there no other suitable task that I can help with during this period?" Ash scratched his head and slumped on the sofa, asking incessantly.
Harvey closed the crystal screen of the Magic Brain instrument and frowned in confusion. "As soon as you arrived at the territory, you went on a field survey with Chris and Egno, and you didn't even have time to attend the dinner party I set. You've only been back a few days, and you're already restless again."
Ash curled his lips and said helplessly, "Chris and Mr. Egno are both very interesting, but unfortunately they are both busy with the experimental project to rebuild my father's body and have no time to pay attention to me..."
This is indeed a top priority, and it is a task assigned to them by Harvey himself. After all, the soul imprint is kept in the soul extractor for a long time and is easily disturbed by the energy fluctuations in the real world caused by the erosion of the magic network. Harvey does not want anything to go wrong in the subsequent transfer experiment, which will lead to conflicts such as distrust with these necromancers who have been coaxed and deceived to stay.
"Or you can ask Arsdalen to show you around. Apart from the Magic Arsenal, there's nothing I can't visit here... If you're really bored, you can visit the underground magic stone farm in the south of the mountain, the outpost fortress downstream of the Icefield River, and the garrison on the east coast. I'll arrange for someone to take you along."
Ash sighed softly and mumbled, "After Michelle and the others returned from the outpost, I knew it wasn't a good place. The orcs they sent back, dead or alive, all stank and made me feel sick..."
He paused, a little frustrated, "I can't teach, so I can't guide those talented children. I don't have much talent for magic research, so I can only watch in the laboratory. As for combat ability... Until now, I haven't been able to engrave a usable magic ring in the magic pattern..."
"Harvey, you always say that everyone has their own strengths and talents, but what about me? When I was in the family, I was considered a piece of trash that didn't need any development... Now that I'm here with you, I can't help you at all."
From the moment they met, Harvey knew that Ash had no talent or interest in becoming a spellcaster or studying magic. If most second-generation wizards from wizarding families were mediocre in talent, then Ash could be considered the ultimate loser.
But he was different from other ordinary noble children with bad behavior. He was not addicted to pleasure-seeking or bullying others. Instead, he was always polite, kind and friendly. He was very interested in poetry, art, collecting and all interesting things that had nothing to do with magic. If he had not been criticized for his identity as a necromancer, he would probably have become the favorite guest of those rich ladies and noble women.
At this point, Harvey suddenly had an idea. He clapped his head and stood up with a smile. "I've thought of something important. Perhaps Ash can help me achieve it... No, I would say that you are the only one in the Frontier Territory who can do it, and do it well enough."
Ash was stunned for a moment, still in a state of dejection. He muttered in confusion, "What is it? Do you need my help? And I'm the only one who can do it?"
Harvey walked mysteriously to a row of bookcases against the wall, pulled out a stack of manuscripts covered with leather covers from the corner of the bookshelf, and handed it to Ash with a smile.
"I'll keep you in suspense for now. After you finish reading these manuscripts, we can discuss how to implement this project."
Ash subconsciously took the thick stack of manuscripts and said suspiciously, "Havi, you're a distinguished feudal lord now. You're not still playing pranks on me like you did in college, are you?"
Harvey rolled his eyes speechlessly. "Go away! I'm not so bored anymore. Go back and finish reading the manuscript. I'm going to start meditating now. Don't bother me!"...
Ash, holding a heavy stack of manuscripts in his arms, walked briskly back to the Welcome Hotel where the Lambert family was staying temporarily. At the door, he ran into Michelle who was returning happily from outside.
"Ash! Did you go to the castle to reminisce with Lord Harvey again?" Michelle obviously looked in a good mood, and even her tone was a little happy.
Ash curled his lips, "Harvey asked me for help with something, but he didn't have time to come see me in person, so I made the trip..."
The Lambert family and members of the Cult of the Necromancer were all aware that Ash and Harvey had a precious friendship when they were studying together. Although there seemed to be a huge gap in their identities and positions, Harvey's preferential treatment of Ash was equivalent to showing goodwill to all newly arrived necromancers, so no one had any dissatisfaction or complaints about Ash's behavior.
"You? What else does Your Lordship need your help with?" Although Michelle did not mean to mock or ridicule, her words still revealed serious doubts about Ash's abilities.
This made Ash feel a little embarrassed.
"Hmph! Let's see!"
After returning to his own room, Ash took off his thick outer robe and impatiently pulled the mechanism in the room to light up the table lamp made of lighting magic stone. He leaned over the desk and began to read the manuscript Harvey gave him. It was not until night fell and the hotel waiter knocked on his door three times and politely asked if he needed dinner delivered to his room that he put down the manuscript and breathed a sigh of relief.
"It's really...it's hard to describe." He took out a handkerchief and wiped his sore eyes. "I've never read a story like this. A down-and-out noblewoman from the southern border falls in love with an orc slave living in the northern wasteland...it's simply unbelievable."
He stood up from his desk and paced back and forth in the room, muttering to himself, "Can love really have such a terrifying magic? The two of them clearly had such a huge gap in background and status, yet they ignored worldly opinion and family obstacles and bravely ran towards each other with their lives, even though in the end... Alas!"
Ash sighed to himself for a moment, then couldn't help but sit back down at his desk and reread the final scene. He pounded his fist on the table with a look of indignation. "Harvey is from the South, too. When he read this story, wouldn't he have found it too unorthodox and become dissatisfied with its content? Human nobles and alien slaves... Damn it! This tragedy actually makes me feel sorry for their love. Why can't lovers finally be together?"
A strange thought suddenly flashed through his mind, and he jumped up from his chair. "Could it be... could it be that this gripping and touching love story actually happened in Harvey's territory? No! I have to find someone to ask!"
Ash grabbed his thick robe, pushed the door open in a hurry, and ran straight to the City Hall from the Welcome Hotel.
