Chapter 346: Recasting the Spellcasting Faction
Chapter 346: Recasting the Spellcasting Faction
When Arturo woke up again from his sleep, he had been transferred from the underground laboratory filled with various sophisticated instruments to a luxurious and spacious bedroom.
The room was empty, the thick curtains were drawn, and it was extremely quiet.
According to Lord Harvey, he was slightly different from other alchemical creations in some aspects. Due to the damage and fragility of his soul imprint, he was unable to absorb magic power freely through magic stones and energy instruments called "energy gathering arrays". Therefore, he needed to enter a dormant state every six to eight hours, and during this period, he used the magic coordinator installed in his body to slowly absorb magic power until he woke up after his energy was recharged.
The other party jokingly called him the only alchemical creature that needed to recover its energy through sleep.
Perhaps considering that Arturo was not familiar with the environment here, although alchemical creatures naturally have night vision capabilities, the bedside table in the room still thoughtfully lit a magic stone lighting fixture, and the warm orange light faintly illuminated the entire room.
Arturo subconsciously propped himself up and found that although his senses were dull, he could still clearly feel the softness of the bed and the lightness of the quilt. He then looked at the slightly luxurious furnishings and thick fur carpet in the room.
It seems that this Sir Harvey should also be from a powerful ancient wizard family, and it is even possible that he, like himself, serves as the head or patriarch of the family.
After tentatively moving his two metal arms, Arturo carefully turned over and got out of bed. His heavy body caused the thick carpet to dent the moment it touched the ground.
My new body has a very good balance ability. It seems that I just need to get familiar with it and adapt to it.
He walked to the window and gently lifted a corner of the curtain, and found that the sky outside was pitch black. Only a few dim lights were swaying in the starless and moonless night. He could hear the whistling sound of wind and snow through the window glass.
This is indeed the Northern Wasteland...
In such cold weather, if an ordinary person stayed outside for just a few hours, he would probably freeze to death. Arturo smiled bitterly and thought that one advantage of being in his current state might be that he would no longer be afraid of extreme cold or scorching heat.
Thinking of the fact that Sir Harvey had confessed to him not long ago, Arturo felt his heart as cold as the wind and snow outside the window - after becoming an alchemical creation, there were no magic veins in his mechanically cast body, and naturally he could no longer engrave and cast any spells.
The magic pattern disappeared... In a sense, he could no longer be considered a spellcaster.
"Chief Lambert, you woke up earlier than I expected." Someone suddenly spoke from behind.
Arturo was startled and turned around suddenly, and found that under the dim light, Sir Harvey was wearing a strangely shaped golden crown and sitting leisurely on a recliner in the corner of the room, like a ghost suddenly appearing in the darkness.
He had teleported in instantly through a high-level spell that flashed through the planes!
"Can you clearly sense the time when I wake up?" Arturo asked tentatively.
Harvey nodded and replied noncommittally, "Yes, the soul creations I transformed will have a certain degree of natural perception with me. Asdalen and Reiner, whom you met earlier, are the same as you."
Arturo felt a little oppressed and asked in a hoarse voice, "How will you control them?"
Harvey raised the corner of his mouth and chuckled. "Control? Please don't worry about that. I won't control your minds, neither they nor you, Patriarch Lambert. I won't manipulate your actions..." He paused, shrugged, and explained, "I have no intention of calling myself the Creator. You souls, reborn through alchemical bodies, absolutely possess freedom and independent personalities."
"You'll have plenty of time to spend with Asdalen and Reiner. One of them is obsessed with alchemy experiments and magic research, while the other is good at business management and will handle all the affairs of the territory for me."
Arturo nodded, then said in a deep voice, "Is having the Lambert family and the Necromancer relocate here and settle there the price you pay for saving me?"
"You think the price isn't worth it?" Harvey asked, a bit surprised. "Hiding on an island in the dark sea could attract a siege from the church and the nobles at any time. Isn't my wasteland territory safer and more comfortable than there?"
He stood up, walked to the window, raised his hand to pull open the curtains, and casually pointed at the shadow of a tall building shrouded in the night.
"Over there is the Magic Science Research Institute that I built for the necromancers. Once it's completed, it will be fully delivered to you for use. Every intermediate-level mage with research qualifications will have an independent laboratory with all the necessary equipment and materials."
Arturo had heard Sirius and Prall briefly talk about this matter when he first woke up, but he only believed it when Harvey said it himself.
"I really can't understand... You rescued me, sheltered and protected the necromancer, and built such a large research institute for us... Why did you do all this? What do you want from us?"
Arturo would never believe that someone would provide such generous free aid just because he and his only son, Ash, had been classmates for several years.
Harvey narrowed his eyes and suddenly felt that the Lambert Patriarch in front of him really met the membership criteria of the Spellcaster Forum - he extremely followed the principle of equivalent exchange.
"I'm helping you because if I sit back and do nothing, my friend Ash will be buried with you in the blood sacrifice..."
"I accepted and sheltered the Lambert family and the Necromancer because I was openly hostile to the Church of Light, and we both belong to the same faction of undead spellcasters, so it's only natural for us to help each other."
"As for...building a magic research institute for you..."
Harvey paused, then slowly explained, "Of course, I hope you will join me in re-examining this declining undead spellcasting faction and changing our past outdated and backward research direction."
Arturo raised his head sharply and asked in a trembling voice, "Sir Harvey... do you... believe that the research on flesh and blood bodies and death energy conducted by past undead spellcasters was fundamentally... on the wrong path?"
Harvey removed the Dragon Chaser's crown from his head and played with it in his hands, saying casually, "Of course, I wouldn't dare make any bold statements or casual judgments, but since I began my soul-level experimental research, I have indeed discovered a new direction for the development of my faction..."
He turned to look at Patriarch Lambert and said sternly, "At least for now, your family and the cult have continued to develop to this day, but there are only three high-level spellcasters left. From what I know, Elder Sirius is already in his twilight years... This is enough to prove that there is a serious problem with the direction of development you have chosen."
Without waiting for Arturo to explain, Harvey said quietly, "It's been a long time since a legendary necromancy master appeared among the human spellcasters of the Southern Continent. I'm sure you, Chief, know this better than I do."
