Industrial Revolution of the Mage Lords

Chapter 521: Blitz Attack Highland City!

Chapter 521: Blitz Attack Highland City!
Randy Hughes hurried back to the Stoneheart Chamber of Commerce's trading post in Highland City.

When several of his trusted men saw that he had returned safely, they quickly closed the door and entered the wine storage room in the basement of the storehouse, surrounding old Hughes.

"Master Priest, have you successfully leaked false information to Cavalry Commander Guerrero?"

"Did he believe it? The sentry discovered in the evening that half of the cavalry in the city suddenly left their station and headed south."

Old Hughes took off his thick fur coat and donned a light, dark red priest's robe. He smiled sinisterly and said, "Given Guerrero's greedy nature, there's no way he'd remain indifferent to the caravan intelligence I've shared. The Highland Earl is far away in the Holy City, completely unconcerned with his own fiefdom. While his leadership is relatively free, his political future is at an end. He can only compensate by continuously accumulating wealth."

After saying this, he turned and pulled out an exquisitely shaped brass instrument from a lockbox in the basement. His hand trembled slightly as he brushed across its surface. He said excitedly, "This is the price the Saint Valen people paid in exchange for our cooperation. Now that we have it, whether their actions succeed or fail, it has nothing to do with us."

One of his men asked doubtfully, "Master Priest, can this thing... really deepen the connection between believers and our Lord and allow them to gain new [Divine Revelation]?"

Old Hughes rolled his eyes at the waiter and said impatiently, "Of course! Back at Wolf Fang Ridge, those Saint Valen people demonstrated it to me beforehand... This is a magical instrument unearthed from ancient ruins, and I also learned clear and accurate instructions for its use from a revelation in my dream."

The magical weapons held by the Saint Valenians who handed him the instrument also indirectly proved the authenticity of this ritual artifact - by re-establishing the connection with the gods through the ritual artifact, they were able to gain such powerful power, allowing mortal soldiers to control magic and directly sweep away those blasphemers of the Glorious Cult who believed in false gods.

Now, this ritual instrument has finally returned to the hands of these true believers. When they use the inherited sacrificial ritual to regain the attention of the gods, they will also be able to be granted the same powerful power!

Under the scorching gazes of the cultists in the entire underground warehouse, Old Hughes carefully placed the brass instrument in the center of the temporary magic circle drawn on the floor. He then ordered people to fetch several strange sacrifices that had been prepared in advance and place them around the instrument in order.

The believers slowly stepped back and sat cross-legged, and under the guidance of the ritual, they began to whisper the sacrificial prayers in strange and difficult tones... Old Hughes, who was standing in the center of the magic circle, lay on the ground, took out a crystal-clear high-level magic stone from his arms, and decisively stuffed it into the side slot of the brass instrument.

As the chanting of the sacrificial prayer became faster and more frequent, he stretched out his fingers and tremblingly pressed several buttons and mechanisms in different positions on the instrument... After a few minutes, countless dense ephemera patterns began to appear on the crystal plate above the instrument. They sometimes dispersed and sometimes gathered, swimming slowly as if they had life consciousness.

"Yes... that's the omen!" Old Hughes muttered enthusiastically. "These are the magical mayflies used in the artifact to connect to the other world! They are also ritual runes!"

Then he immediately pressed the mechanism of the instrument again, and skillfully entered the sacrificial prayer that he had recited countless times in his mind. After the magic mayflies dispersed and gathered again... a string of strange and unfamiliar words suddenly appeared on the crystal screen.

Those are the devil's words! They are the revelation of the "Supreme Demon God"!

Hughes stared at the crystal screen with red eyes and began to analyze it word by word...

"Help... Saint Valen... reach... the mouth of the canyon... in the Godspine Mountains. The King of the North... the agent of the gods..."

He muttered softly, his expression shifting from ecstasy to confusion, then back to solemnity, before finally realizing. "The Great Being has bestowed revelation upon His most devout followers!"

"The leaders of the Saint Varens are his representatives on earth... Pledging allegiance to the King of the North is the only way to serve and please him!"

Old Hughes stood up, looked around at the believers, and said, "We haven't received such clear and accurate divine revelation in nearly fifty years. Now we have finally re-established a connection with our Lord..."

Before he could finish, a slight, dull tremor suddenly erupted from the ground. A believer disguised as a clerk from the Chamber of Commerce rushed in and said, "Master Priest, there was a sudden explosion at the southern city gate not far away. It seems the defenders of the city wall are under attack!"

Old Hughes stood up, cradling the brass instrument in his arms, and shouted, "It's those Saint Valenians! They've ambushed the cavalry leaving the city as planned, and are now attacking Highland City! What are we waiting for? Mobilize the believers lying in ambush throughout the city, and assist them from both inside and outside to wipe out the defenders and open the city gates!"

……

The explosion at the city gate flashed briefly, and then more intense fireworks exploded on the city wall.

Wayne raised the telescope and looked at the towering city walls in the distance at night. The torches erected on the top of the wall were the best target indicators, providing important landing references for the soldiers responsible for operating the portable artillery.

"Those defenders on the city walls aren't our primary targets. Don't waste precious ammunition on them." He turned to the messenger and muttered, "Tell the artillery to concentrate their bombardment on the city gates. We need to open a breach as quickly as possible and launch a surprise attack inside the city!"

Not long after, the whooshing sound of firing was heard again from the artillery position in the rear. The scorching flames from the muzzles briefly illuminated the entire infantry position. The smell of the fiercely burning dragon flame powder made people feel excited involuntarily.

This time, the artillery accurately hit the huge wooden city gate, and the iron chain rope that fixed the raised city gate was also hit by the cannon. The fragments of the city gate flew into the air and directly cut off half of the blockhouses and watchtowers on the city wall.

With the help of the howling night wind and the yellow sand, the defenders on the city wall didn't even see the face of the attacking enemy after two rounds of artillery fire. They were already in a panic amid the violent explosions and the spreading fire.

After the Northern Army, wearing "optical camouflage" uniforms, rushed into the city, they discovered that riots had already occurred in the Highland City - several buildings in the center of the city were on fire, but it was not caused by the Northern Army's artillery attack. It seemed that someone deliberately set the fire when they raided the city gate.

Several fireworks suddenly appeared in the chaotic sky above the city, appearing in different directions. Wayne narrowed his eyes and said with a sinister smile, "It's the insider pointing us in the direction. All teams, listen up! Attack in the direction of the fireworks and seize control of the target location they have marked as soon as possible!"

If nothing unexpected happens, those fireworks should be pointing to the city guards’ base, the granary, the Highland Earl’s residence... and the place where they will meet up with the group of "cultists"!
