Industrial Revolution of the Mage Lords

Chapter 57: The Spellcaster in the North

Chapter 57: The Spellcaster in the North

Harvey was leaning over the metal lab table, concentrating on assembling the experimental device.

Vaughn, the newly promoted captain of the sharpshooters, suddenly stumbled down the stairs, startling Asdalen.

The eyes of the two bear-shaped alchemical beasts guarding the laboratory door lit up, and they pounced on him at the same time and pinned him to the ground.

"My Lord! Commander Pierce is injured! We carried him back!"

Harvey suddenly raised his head and found that the orc captain was covered with small cuts. Although they did not look fatal, they were bloody and very scary.

"Where is he now? Quick! Asdalen, go upstairs and get the healing potion! And the blood packs, take them all down!"

Harvey pulled up the orc who was pinned down and hurried upstairs.

Pierce was carried on a simple stretcher and placed on the floor of the main castle hall. Several team leaders who were responsible for patrolling the perimeter with him today were also covered in wounds, but no one complained or cried out in pain. They were all waiting anxiously by the side.

Harvey had noticed that Pierce didn't have any wounds on his body, but his face was pale and his eyes were closed, as if he had fainted.

"It looks like internal injuries. I wonder if the healing potion will work."

There was another commotion outside the door, and a second stretcher was carried in. Harvey found that it was a strange face.

"Who is this? The refugee you rescued in the wilderness?" Harvey realized something was wrong as soon as he asked the question. Although the other party had fainted, his clothes and appearance did not look like those poor refugees in the wilderness.

He was wearing a robe that was dirty and worn, but the material and fabric were still recognizable. Some gold thread patterns could be vaguely seen on the torn hem.

"Human nobles who were abducted to the North? How is that possible?" Harvey murmured, but he was a little unsure.

Asdalen had already brought a healing potion and poured it down his throat while Pierce clenched his teeth. Then he skillfully took a thin hose and used the probe on the hose to puncture the blood bag, and then accurately inserted the other end into the blood vessel in Pierce's arm.

This direct blood transfusion will help him recover faster than pouring blood into his stomach.

Sure enough, after a while, Pierce woke up faintly, squinting his eyes and groaning in pain.

Harvey leaned close to Pierce's ear and whispered, "What happened? Who attacked you?"

Pierce struggled to open his eyes, and after a long pause, he replied, "No one attacked me, sir. I spotted this spellcaster fighting an evil orc priest, and wanted to get closer to observe him, but was unfortunately affected by the evil orc priest's self-destruction spell."

It turned out that he was knocked unconscious on the spot. Harvey breathed a sigh of relief and thought that this guy was so bold that he dared to approach the battle area between the spellcasters.

Looking around at the militiamen in the hall who were also affected by the magic and had small wounds all over their bodies, he couldn't help but be speechless.

It is true that an arrogant leader will easily lead a group of arrogant soldiers.

"A demonic orc has a spellcaster nearby? Can you roughly judge the ability of that priest?"

Pierce recalled for a moment before slowly answering, "It seems to rely entirely on a strange wooden staff in its hand, which releases some poisonous mist and some venom that will cause plants to wither instantly."

It seems to be a low-level spellcaster with a magical weapon that can cause poisonous attacks.

"What about this human spellcaster? What are his combat techniques?"

"He seemed to be able to manipulate the trees and thorns around him, binding the priest tightly and forcing him to self-destruct in order to perish together..."

A natural spellcaster! Harvey narrowed his eyes, feeling that something was amiss.

Upon hearing this, Asdalen, who was standing by, immediately walked over to the man, squatted down, and reached out to lift his thick and messy hair.

Suddenly, a pointed ear was revealed, but the ear on the other side was a little damaged, as if half of it had been cut off.

Asdalen sneered and said self-deprecatingly: "Hybrid elf, no wonder..." The elves are the most stubborn ancient race. They have been active in the southern continent since the age of dragons and are born with a talent for casting natural magic.

But they strictly abide by the principle of non-intermarriage between different races, and even between different branches of the elves, marriage is absolutely not allowed.

But there are always some immortal species whose minds are blinded by love, and they can't help but fall in love with short-lived humans and give birth to half-human, half-elf hybrids.

Of course, the ending is as miserable as that of mixed-race people like Asdalen. At the very least, they will be expelled and exiled, and at the worst, they will be imprisoned and executed.

But the elves went even further. They had a strong agreement with the human kingdom and the Federation that no one was allowed to take in or help these hybrid offspring who were accused of polluting their bloodline, otherwise they would be openly opposing the elves.

It seems that this unfortunate hybrid elf had no place to stay in the southern continent, so he ran to the northern wilderness to make a living. I just don’t know where he got this luxurious wizard robe from.

Harvey asked the wounded soldiers to carry their commander back to the barracks to rest, and he nodded to Asdalen.

The other party immediately understood, activated the communication device installed on the prosthesis, and began to call Reiner who was out working.

……

Egno woke up from his coma. As soon as he opened his eyes, he found that two black iron rods were pressed against his temples, one on the left and one on the right.

"This... where is this? What are you going to do?" He didn't feel that the two iron rods could pose any threat to him. He subconsciously twisted his body and tried to struggle to get up.

But he found himself tied tightly to a long metal table, unable to move.

Only then did he see that there were two tall, terrifying and bizarre humanoid metal skeletons standing on his left and right, with two strange flames flashing in their eye sockets, one red and one blue.

"Sir, please behave yourself. If I see you even lip-syncing with a spell, your head will explode instantly, and even your nine-ring healing spell won't be able to put it back together."

This metal skeleton can actually speak! Could it be that the Alchemy Exploration Society's life-transforming experiment was successful?
Egno understood the threat and immediately pursed his lips obediently, his eyes rolling around.

Harvey then stepped forward with confidence, "What's your name? Mr. Half-Elf."

Harvey wasn't surprised at all to see the other person's face suddenly turn pale.

"Egno, Egno Medeiros, is a freelance spellcaster from Alayeh."

Harvey raised his eyebrows curiously and asked, "You're from Alayeh? Haha, when did the Federation allow the taking in of hybrid elves?"

Egno's face turned from pale to flushed, as if he felt that he had been verbally insulted, but the iron pipe against his head gently put pressure on him, and he did not dare to refuse to answer.

"I used a magical disguise and never interacted with the Union's high-level spellcasters. I... I just secretly studied magic in Alayeh..."

"How did you end up in the Northern Wasteland? Was your identity in Alayeh exposed?" Harvey pointed out the problem in his words sharply.

As expected, the other party shuddered and muttered, "Indeed, my teacher wants to hand me over to the Union for disposal. I will definitely be handed over to the elves. I don't want to return to that place and be imprisoned in a dark dungeon."

Harvey chuckled and said, "But there aren't any human spellcasting organizations in the North. If you run into the fel orcs' territory, aren't you just going to die?"

The hybrid elf tried to defend his seemingly foolish behavior, "I read in an ancient history book that before the establishment of the Union, a large wizard family moved to the North and established a wizard kingdom called the City of Eternal Night."

"I... I want to find the legendary wizard kingdom. Maybe they will accept me there and let me learn more about magic..."

Harvey was stunned and subconsciously looked at Asdalen who was looking at him at the same time. Then he saw the other party shook his head slightly and immediately understood.

"Mr. Egno, I have to say that you are delusional. There are no wizard kingdoms in the northern wilderness anymore. They were destroyed by the invasion of the demons."
