Industrial Revolution of the Mage Lords
Chapter 590 Frenzy
Chapter 590 Frenzy
"Reinforcements from the first battalion have arrived! Artillery positions are being re-established!"
"The special forces team is cooperating with the spellcasters to gradually clear out the Winged Living who are entrenched in the rear. Everyone, hold on to the second line of defense!"
Benny struggled to get up from the trench, spitting blood on the ground. He subconsciously touched his chest and back, then collapsed and breathed a sigh of relief.
No open wounds, no missing limbs...
Several clusters of lightning that had just struck from the sky hit right near his squad, and the red light covered an area of dozens of meters, including a trench where the soldiers were defending.
Several soldiers affected by the lightning attack had large burns from the electric current on their bodies. The gravel pierced through the bodies of several people under the violent impact. Blood and mud mixed together, and it was impossible to tell whether they were fatal injuries.
The talkative recruit who had been beside him was now gasping for air and groaning in pain, while lowering his head to search in the fluffy soil - a piece of debris from the exploded ammunition box had directly cut off half of his palm. The young man was very strong and took out a bandage to tie the wound tightly at the first time, but he still tried in vain to find the broken limb, hoping that the medical alchemy beast could sew it back to the body.
Benny felt his nose tingle, and with red eyes, he held him down and shouted, "Where's the medic? Come quickly! There's a wounded person here!"
The battlefield was filled with smoke, and the winding trenches were deep and long. He had no idea whether any medical soldiers noticed the situation here.
Fortunately, amidst the chaos, three figures carrying a stretcher quickly trotted over along the trench. "Second Lieutenant! We are medics!"
There was a seriously injured soldier lying on the stretcher, with an obvious spear wound in his abdomen. Even the exposed part of his intestines was stained with mud, which obviously had just been stuffed back by the medical soldier.
He quickly took out the adhesive ointment made from rubber fruit and applied a thick layer of it on the recruit's bleeding wound. The sharp-eyed medical soldier found half of the severed hand with the bones exposed in the soil, carefully wrapped it in gauze and stuffed it into his arms.
"Can you still walk on your own? Come with me back to the medical station. Maybe we can sew your hand back on!"
Then the three of them looked at the other injured person lying beside them, shook their heads and sighed, "The neck is pierced, and the bleeding is too heavy... Sorry, sir, he can't be saved."
Benny wiped the sweat from his face, raised his hand and pushed the other person hard, urging: "Take the wounded away quickly, don't leave them here!"
At that moment, a group of unfamiliar soldiers suddenly rushed over from the trench in the opposite direction. They grabbed Benny and shouted, "The Fifth Squadron of the First Battalion has been ordered to come to reinforce us. We will take over the position you are responsible for... Please arrange to send all the wounded to the rear for treatment!"
As if responding to the credibility of the other party's words, almost at the same time, the familiar and reassuring whistling of artillery shells came from the sky again, and the second round of bombardment by the shallow water heavy gunboat finally arrived.
……
Phil Holden's whole body was burning with blazing flames. He stepped on the shoulder of a winged creature and tore off its flesh wings with a grin. Before the creature was about to self-destruct, he pushed it with both fists and knocked it flying. It fell on a thick tree trunk in a disfigured state.
Not far away, Stormwalker was fighting with three enemies on the ground. The red light and black water gradually lost their accuracy in the extremely cold tornado caused by the frost. There were also two bloodline warriors holding grenade launchers nearby, so it was not difficult to completely eliminate the target.
After nearly two hours of continuous spellcasting, the Son of Fire felt faintly tired. In order to kill as many Winged Creatures as possible, he had to cast several high-level instant spells in succession, consuming all the magic power stored in his body without reservation.
He subconsciously raised his hand to touch his waist but found nothing. Then he suddenly remembered that when he used "Scorching Attack", the high-speed flight and violent collision had already shattered all the magic recovery potions he was carrying. Now there was probably not a drop left.
He shook his head helplessly and was about to take off into the air again to rush towards several Winged Creatures who were hiding high in the treetops and suddenly shooting arrows... But out of the corner of his eye, he saw a young-looking recruit suddenly running out from the trench where he was hiding, crawling to the side of the artillery, and using all his strength to try to straighten the tilted barrel.
"You're killing yourself!" This new recruit looked even younger than his good-for-nothing nephew, Durt. He couldn't help but stop and scold him in a deep voice, "Return to the bunker! Don't return to the artillery position until the Winged Living have been completely cleared!"
The recruit showed no fear in the face of a high-level spellcaster. Glancing at his ornate robes and the bare chest devoid of any rank insignia, he saluted and said, "Master Mage, you have no authority to command artillery units... We need to resume the artillery fire immediately and provide fire support to the soldiers on the front lines!"
As he spoke, several more soldiers climbed out of the trenches, carefully returned to their posts, and began moving the shells. The Son of Flame angrily asked, "Where's your immediate superior? Did he just send you out here to die?"
The soldiers kept working, but the new recruit who emerged first wiped his nose and whispered, "The commander has died in the line of duty! Now I'm in charge of the second bombardment team!"
The fire mage was suddenly speechless. Just as he was about to shake his head and leave, he suddenly heard a sound of breaking wind above his head.
He gathered strength and clenched his fist, and with a flaming fist, he smashed a black water spear in half with a bang, sending shattered black crystal fragments flying everywhere.
He looked up and immediately spotted a few winged creatures flapping their wings and hovering in the dense treetops.
"Sir, be careful!" The recruits suddenly shouted at him. They all saw the enemies hiding in the treetops, and also saw them gathering together and preparing to use cluster lightning.
The Son of Fire had every chance to avoid it, but if he did so... the group of young soldiers behind him would certainly not be spared.
He gritted his teeth and cursed inwardly, and a wall of blazing, dazzling flames suddenly rose from the ground, blocking the incoming attack.
With a loud bang——
Thick flames and smoke filled an area of dozens of meters.
The Son of Fire knelt on one knee, endured for a moment, and finally couldn't help vomiting a mouthful of blood, and fell to the ground with his body tilted.
A pair of somewhat thin arms stretched out from the smoke, groped and grabbed his collar, and dragged him back with all their strength... and the sounds of several flapping wings came from the front, and those winged creatures landed on the ground.
"Don't worry about me, just run..." The Son of Fire took two hard breaths, took out his magic revolver and pointed it forward, urging urgently.
However, the arms behind him did not loosen...
In a trance, he heard Stormwalker's cry of shock and anger.
There was a rustling sound coming from behind, as if thousands of ants were moving their legs, making a noise that was creepy enough to make one's hair stand on end.
Suddenly, countless spider-like mechanical insects emerged from the smoke and dust like a tide, passing directly over the body of the Son of Fire lying on the ground, and many even "borrowed the path" to take a shortcut by crawling over his shoulders.
The fire mage was startled and struggled to raise his hand to pinch a mechanical spider that was "getting ahead of him". He raised his hand and applied a little force, but found that he could not crush it at all.
I don't know if it's because he's too weak after being seriously injured, or if this thing is made of magical metal.
Right in front of them, the figures of several winged creatures gradually approached and were almost instantly submerged by the surging tide of insects.
A few seconds later, the insect swarm that had overwhelmed the enemy quickly dispersed, continuing to surge towards the distant front line where the exchange of fire continued...
The Son of Fire was horrified to discover that all that was left was... a few tattered pieces of skin.
