Chapter 800: Fierce Fight in the Jungle
Chapter 800: Fierce Fight in the Jungle
Even from hundreds of meters away, the rustling sounds of the lizardmen emerging from the muddy pool reached everyone's ears.
Even with the cover of the dense forest canopy, the occasional flapping of wings overhead still terrified the rebels huddled in the bushes.
"What startled them?" Alva asked in a low, strained voice, "Didn't the spies Vili sent say that there were only about a dozen demon lizardmen hiding in the pool?"
The sentry responsible for relaying the information shook his head, looking alarmed. "The Lizardmen are unusually active in this area, and the other resistance groups rarely venture here either, so the intelligence is bound to be inaccurate..."
With such a large number of enemies, and having been alerted beforehand, it is absolutely unwise to act rashly now.
Alva clenched his fist and pounded the ground in frustration, gritting his teeth as he said, "There's no other way... we have to retreat to our hidden camp."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, and were about to quietly return by the same route under the cover of the ironwood forest... when two unusually clear, low humming sounds suddenly came from the northeast direction not far away.
That was the familiar sound of the "Thunderfire" weapon!
Other rebel groups are also active near the muddy swamp. Are they also targeting these enemies in the pool?
The large number of demon lizardmen lingering by the pool were clearly also attracted by the gunshots. They quickly conjured black water weapons in their hands and strode towards the ironwood forest to the northeast.
Clearly... that resistance force was probably discovered by the winged beings patrolling in the sky, otherwise they wouldn't have been forced to open fire and expose themselves.
Before Alva could think further, several more rapid gunshots rang out, getting closer and closer to their team.
"Captain, should we retreat immediately... or go and meet them to join forces and help them resist the enemy?" the deputy asked in a trembling voice, clearly believing that the current situation of being outnumbered and outmatched was not optimistic.
More than fifty demon lizardmen, with winged monsters lurking in the sky... Unless each of them is equipped with a "thunderfire" weapon and has a sufficient supply of magic stone bullets, they simply cannot confront the enemy head-on.
Alva turned to look behind him and saw that many of the rebel soldiers in the group had bloodshot eyes, staring intently at him... Almost all of these people's families and relatives had died at the hands of the alien race, and they had long since put their own lives behind them. Many of them thought that killing one alien race was not a loss, and killing two was a gain when facing the alien race. It would probably not be easy to persuade them to leave when their own kind was attacked.
"We'll catch up with them and try to cover their escape!"
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a sharp whooshing sound came from above, and a dark crystal spike pierced through the dense canopy and shot toward Alva's group.
"Watch out! It's a Winged One!" Someone reacted quickly and immediately shouted a warning.
However, one rebel fighter was unable to dodge in time and was pierced through the shoulder by a long, crystalline spike, which then embedded him directly into the trunk of an ironwood tree.
Even so, the man was exceptionally tough. In order not to attract the attention of more enemies, he gritted his teeth and did not let out a scream.
Alva raised his "Thunderfire" weapon high, keenly spotting the figure through the gaps in the tree canopy. He squinted and raised his hand to return fire.
The bullet grazed the broad leaves of the ironwood tree and struck the winged creature hovering above them, leaving a gaping wound in its large, fleshy wing.
A spray of red and black liquid fell to the ground, and the sound of fleshy wings flapping gradually faded away... Alva shook his head with some regret. He had only wounded one of the creature's wings, which was not enough to cause fatal damage, or even to shoot it down from the sky.
"We've been exposed. Head towards the direction of the gunfire... and rendezvous with that mysterious team as soon as possible!" Alva gave the order in a deep voice, leading everyone to hurry northeast.
The second-in-command drew his short sword, knocked the crystal spike lodged in the wounded warrior's shoulder, and then hoisted him onto his shoulder... The weight of an adult male was hardly a burden for a bloodline warrior.
The closer Alva got to the location of the gunfire, the more he felt something was wrong.
This mysterious resistance force...their...their counterattack sounds rather strange.
As the demonic lizardmen, disturbed in the swamp, gradually converged into the ironwood forest, the sounds of the "Thunderfire" weapons firing became increasingly frequent...
But this is happening far too frequently!
How many "Thunderfire" weapons do they actually control?
As Alva led his team stealthily forward, he felt a chill creeping down his back.
As the group bent low and made their way through a thicket of bushes, a deep, stern reprimand rang out from the side—
"Stop! Who are you?"
Alva instinctively reached for the sword at his waist with one hand and turned his head slightly... Less than five meters away, a figure completely covered by a cloak and hood suddenly appeared in his line of sight.
This guy was so close to me, how come I didn't notice him at all when I passed by him just now?
No wonder, the color of the cloak he was wearing almost blended into the Ironwood Forest environment. With this level of concealment, even if a large group of winged monsters flew overhead, they probably wouldn't notice him.
"You are... a sentry on guard duty?" Alva asked in a deep voice, letting his arms hang naturally, adopting a non-malicious attitude. "We are the resistance fighters active in this area, and we just came to reinforce after hearing the gunfire."
These ten or so people all looked like typical grassland people, so there was no need for much explanation to prove their identity.
The sentry quickly dismissed his doubts, raised his gun, and stood still, saying solemnly, "We are the resistance army from Sand Gold Town... We came here after chasing a small group of winged monsters, and we were just about to take advantage of the situation to wipe out the few alien races in the vicinity."
Pursue them... and while you're at it, clear out the demon lizardmen in the vicinity?
Alva was stunned for a few seconds before he reacted and asked urgently, "How many people are in your team? I heard the sounds of your firing... How many thunder and fire weapons do you have?"
The sentry shrugged, not revealing the full situation of his team all at once, but only suggesting, "Follow me to the rear first... Our people are luring all those monsters together. After we've dealt with them in a little while, I'll take you to see the leader."
The other side clearly did not regard the dozen or so local rebels in front of him as strong reinforcements, but instead took the initiative to offer them protection. However, Alva did not feel offended... He knew very well how much fighting power his ragtag group had.
Successfully ambushing a lone alien race member and escaping unscathed... that was already the limit of what they could do. With their ammunition and supplies nearly exhausted, a direct confrontation with the demon lizardmen was virtually impossible.
With a friendly smile, Alva raised his hand to beckon his companion, signaling the sentry to lead the way.
Da da da da da——
The group had not gone far when a burst of unusually dense gunfire suddenly erupted from the nearby area of combat. The entire ironwood forest seemed to boil over, with a large number of frightened birds and small wild animals rushing out from the treetops and burrows, scattering in all directions in a panic.
Boom——
bang——
An even more violent explosion rang out... and the ground seemed to tremble slightly.
Alva stared blankly, his neck stiff, and asked the sentry leading the way in a hoarse voice, "You... your team, what... what weapons are you using to fight those alien races?"
