Mystery: From the Shadow World

Chapter 30: 2 Commission

Chapter 30 Two Commissions
After Luo Shan went underground to report, she quickly alarmed Captain Dunn Smith.

He asked Leonard, who was still slacking off in the entertainment room, to guard the "Chanis Gate" for him, and then went to the living room and asked the two about the situation.

The timid and reserved teenager mustered up the courage to interrupt the tall, thin man next to him who was about to speak and said, "My father is missing. He hasn't come home since yesterday afternoon."

Dunn's gray eyes squinted at him, he rubbed his brows, and shook his head imperceptibly. "Sir, why do you want to see the security personnel? The police in Tingen are very professional."

The young man lowered his head involuntarily, looked at the coffee table, clenched his fists, and said nervously:
"My father said that if something like this happened to him, it would be useless to report it to the police. He must come here for help. He mentioned you, Mr. Smith."

If something like this happened, calling the police would be useless. Did the child's father know he was involved in some kind of supernatural trouble? In other words, a survivor of an extraordinary case?
Philip quickly came up with a rough idea, and the others probably had similar ideas, but it was obvious that this couldn't be discussed in detail in front of outsiders. Dunn's deep gray eyes narrowed slightly, he raised his fingers and tapped his head, then nodded.

"I see. What about this gentleman?"

The tall and thin man was startled, obviously not expecting the topic to turn directly to him. He turned his head to look at the boy who suddenly realized after a brief moment of confusion, and said without saying anything more:

"My name is Cleese. I'm the butler of Mr. Vickroyd, the tobacco merchant. His only son, little Elliot, was kidnapped this morning, two hours ago. We've reported the case to the police, and they've received sufficient attention."

"But Mr. Vickrol is still worried. He hopes to use your security personnel's channels and your understanding of Tingen to investigate from another direction and ensure that little Elliot is safely rescued."

"If you can find the kidnappers' hiding place, Mr. Vickroy is willing to pay 100 pounds as a reward. If you are confident enough to rescue young Master Elliot, he is willing to double it."

200 pounds, a big order.
Philip, whose entire personal wealth and bank account combined totaled only over 800 pounds, was somewhat tempted by the words, but he also knew that this matter probably had little to do with him.

However, the next moment, Dunn's voice called back Philip, who was still thinking about the next task, "Lawrence, are you confident about this matter?"

"I?"

Philip pointed at himself blankly.

If the kidnappers weren't Beyonders and there weren't multiple gun prohibitions, he would have a good chance of completing the commission alone with his newly learned divination method and the skills brought by the "prisoner." But wasn't this trusting him too much?
"Yeah." Dunn nodded, without answering Philip's question. He just looked at him silently, waiting for an answer. "Is that okay?"

"Okay, I'll go get the paperwork."

Philip nodded, without saying anything more, turned and went into the office, took out four ready-made contracts printed a few days ago, returned to the reception hall, and signed two of them with the butler.

Then, at Roshan's reminder, he picked up the contract again and stamped the "Blackthorn Security Company" seal on Mrs. Orianna, and the contract became effective.

The butler took one of the contracts and took off his hat and bowed to Philip, saying, "Sir, I'm waiting for your good news."

After saying that, he left here.

Philip held the remaining contract in his hand and looked at Dunn, who was sitting on the sofa. He said awkwardly, "Captain, um, am I really going to go there alone?"

Unexpectedly, after hearing this, Dunn's eyes were filled with doubt. "Lawrence, I don't think you're such a coward. The missions you've done in the past have proven that."

As he spoke, he suddenly paused for two seconds, as if he had thought of a key point. Then he smiled calmly and said, "Don't worry, after this period of observation, you have already proven yourself. Now you are an indispensable member of our team."

"I'll write you two documents. This assignment might be dangerous. Go ask Old Neil for guns and ammunition. I didn't even realize you hadn't mentioned this."

"By the way, that other document is your permit to enter and exit Tingen. If the kidnappers are outside Tingen, you don't need to come back to report. Just handle it yourself and let me bear the risk." Philip listened in silence.

There was a softness in the sapphire blue eyes.

He bowed slightly, seemingly to himself and the people on the field, and slowly said, "Captain, thank you. I will try my best."

Jingle Bell--

The slight ringing of the bell slightly disrupted the somewhat strange atmosphere in the reception hall. Rosanne looked around a little embarrassedly, and then went into the inner room with Philip holding the IOU.

It didn't take long.

After Philip and the butler walked out of the door, Dunn's expression in the reception hall became serious again. He asked the young man in front of him, "What is your name and your father's name?"

"Eric, Eric Brondi." The boy took a deep breath and continued, "My father's name is Joel Brondi."

"Joel Brondi, Joel Brondi"

Dunn closed his eyes, pinched his brows with his hands, and repeated it several times in a low voice before he found the answer from his memory. "Okay, Eric, now tell me everything you know about your father's disappearance."

Eric clasped his hands and nodded.

"I don't know much. I only know that he is a fan of the occult. Many years ago, my father was very resistant to these things, but as time went by, he seemed to gradually become fascinated by them."

"Yesterday afternoon, my father went to the docks as usual. He always comes back with strange things."

"But this time I waited for a long time, and he didn't come home." Eric didn't say anything else.

In the reception hall, Klein turned his gaze to Dunn and asked, "Captain, it seems you knew Eric's father before?"

Dunn nodded slightly, clasped his hands together, and slowly spoke, "He's a survivor of a previous case, just like you. He chose to return to life, and our subsequent examinations have revealed no problems."

"It's been seven years."

Klein heard the vicissitudes and sadness implied in this sentence, so he politely did not ask any further questions.

"Klein, I'll go with you personally."

However, just as Dunn finished speaking, Luo Shan whispered something very carefully in his ear. The latter's expression froze slightly, and after a silence of two or three seconds, he spoke:

"Eric, I'm sorry, I have something to take care of later. Our current security personnel are all busy, so you may need to wait a while."

"No, it's okay."
