Mystery: Who has seen my brother?
Chapter 109 Confused
Chapter 109 Confused
The next day, before the sun shone on the sleepyhead, Klein suddenly woke up from his bed.
He had a nightmare.
He dreamed that after knowing the truth, Melissa and Benson beat and scolded him, and cried and threw all his things out.
It must have been just a dream...
Klein clutched the quilt tightly, his heart pounding.
Otherwise, I should find a fortune teller to interpret my dream. No, I am a professional fortune teller...
It should just be that whatever you think about during the day you will dream about at night, but why is the content like this!
Calm down, Klein. Don't panic. You're just a Sequence Eight. You can't have a precognitive dream even if you want to.
Klein imagined layers of white light balls in his mind, using meditation to suppress his chaotic thoughts.
He glanced out the window. The sun had already risen, and a crimson moon hung in the western sky, casting a crimson veil across the dark ocean. Night hadn't yet completely faded, but in the distance, he could see clouds shimmering with light. The sun was hiding within them, shining brightly, its rays filtering through the clouds and staining the sky orange-red.
Klein withdrew his gaze and looked at the wall clock in the dim light. It was half past four. He got out of bed and quietly changed his clothes. He picked up his top hat from the coat rack and put it on his head. He then tucked his cane under his arm and supported it with one hand.
The nightmare made him lose his sleepiness, so he simply got up and went out for a walk.
He put his hand on the doorknob and quietly opened it a crack, looking out through the gap with his brown eyes. He waited for a few seconds, and after making sure that no one was awakened, he pushed the door outwards until a gap big enough for him to pass through was revealed.
Klein sidled through the door, left the room, and gently closed it behind him. He tiptoed down the stairs, crossed the living room, and gently opened the door again, successfully leaving 2 Daffodil Street without alerting anyone.
Call ~
Klein breathed a sigh of relief, took off his cane, and walked on the road.
Tingen was unusually quiet right now. Even though Klein had deliberately reduced his force to avoid disturbing others, he could still hear the sound of his cane hitting the ground.
Although it was summer, it wasn't scorching hot at four in the morning. The occasional breeze was unusually comfortable, and Klein felt much calmer.
Boom boom boom!
The knocking sound was very obvious in the silent environment. Klein looked in the direction of the sound and saw that the window on the second floor of an apartment in the distance was opened. Eve was looking at him with her chin in her hand.
As their eyes met, Eve smiled faintly at Klein. She placed her hands on the windowsill, one foot on top, and jumped out of the window. Her off-white pajamas and slippers didn't hinder her movements at all. She flew down from the tall building like a lithe butterfly.
Klein stood there, watching Eve run towards him step by step.
Only after Eve stood beside him did he seem to come to his senses. He turned his head away without looking at Him, raised his foot silently, and walked forward.
Eve said nothing, quietly accompanying Klein into the night.
Klein twitched his fingers, tilted his head slightly, and glanced at Eve quietly. He then quickly retracted his gaze and silently reached into his pocket to grasp the topaz pendulum.
His thumb groped for the citrine, a cool sensation spreading across his fingertips. Klein took out his pendulum and stared blankly at the yellow crystal in his palm. He slowly closed his palm, gradually increasing the pressure. The tip of the citrine gradually pressed against his skin, causing a slight pain.
Klein slowly placed his hands in his pockets and slowly opened his palms.
The pendulum gradually slid down and returned silently to the pocket.
The cold touch disappeared, and Klein moved his fingers. After a long while, he seemed to react and withdrew his hand.
"Would you like to come in and sit down?" Eve asked softly, pointing to her apartment.
Klein looked up and realized that they had arrived in front of Eve's apartment.
"it is good."
Klein has not been to Eve's home since she moved to Tingen.
Eve walked forward, put her hand on the door, and pushed it forward casually. The wooden door moved back, opening the entrance.
Entering the apartment, Eve turned on the gas switch. With a click, the light illuminated the dark room.
Klein leaned his cane against the wall and sat on the sofa, observing Eve's apartment in the light. It was similar to Eve's apartment in Backlund, but much simpler. There were no pictures of Eve and Rarity on the walls, and no stuffed animals scattered around the living room. It seemed as if they didn't plan to stay here long term.
Eve took out a bottle of red wine and two glass goblets from the kitchen and placed them in front of Klein, then sat down opposite him.
"Thank you, but no thanks. Drinking in the morning is bad for your stomach," Klein said with his eyes lowered. "And I don't want Melissa and Benson to find out I'm out drinking at four in the morning."
Eve smiled, pushed the red wine and tall glass aside, and waited quietly for Klein to speak.
Klein lowered his head and said nothing.
After a long pause, he opened his mouth and said, "I've made up my mind. After I'm promoted to Sequence Seven, I'll apply to become a Red Glove and go to Backlund with you."
"Why not wait until Benson becomes a government employee?" Eve asked, her chin in her hand.
Klein was stunned for a moment and smiled bitterly in his heart. It turned out that his sister had known all along.
"I can't..." Klein's lips moved a few times. He clasped his hands tightly, his fingers scratching the backs of his hands. He said with a hint of bitterness, "Celebrate the New Year with them in my current identity, and then tell them after the New Year that 'Klein' has passed away a long time ago."
"I probably...can't celebrate New Year's with Melissa and Benson." Klein smiled faintly and consoled himself, "But I can celebrate New Year's with you and Ouroboros. That's what happens when there's a price to pay."
Eve held her chin in her hands and listened quietly to Klein. In fact, he hadn't celebrated New Year for a long time. If Klein wanted, he could call Ouroboros back and celebrate the New Year together.
Klein let out a sigh and lowered his head. "I've imagined many outcomes. The best one is that Melissa and Benson would accept me directly, but that's impossible. It's more appropriate to call it a fantasy than a hypothesis."
"A more realistic scenario is that Melissa and Benson slowly accepted me after a long time," Klein paused and gave a wry smile, "or they didn't accept me and never saw me again."
"The worst-case scenario is that Melissa and Benson report directly to the church after learning that an unknown evil spirit has taken over their family members' bodies."
Klein lowered his eyes and said sullenly, "Then I'll have to rely on you to save me. If possible, help me rebuild a body and return the body that belongs to 'Klein' to Melissa and Benson."
“It shouldn’t be this ruthless…” Klein muttered to himself, “No, this isn’t ruthless…”
Klein slowly raised his hands and covered his face.
"Meow~"
Ruirui pushed the bedroom door open with her head and walked out lightly.
She came to Klein and rubbed his calf, as if to comfort him.
Crane slowly lowered his hand and gently stroked her head with the back of his hand. "Thank you, Rarity."
Eve looked at Klein quietly. Losing one's family was a very painful thing.
He suddenly thought of Medici and Mikhail. A thousand years had washed away much of the pain, but every time he thought of it, he still couldn't let it go. And though he had suspected Adam's death long ago, he only learned of it this year.
Eve rubbed her brows, glanced at the depressed Klein, and said, "Melissa is a very perceptive child. She should have noticed that her brother is a little different from before, but she didn't think about it in that direction."
Klein listened in silence, unsure of what to say.
After a long while, he stood up and said, "I have to go back. Bella gets up very early. I have to go back before she gets up."
Eve stood up and walked Klein out the door.
Klein looked back, adjusted his hat, and walked forward.
Melissa...
Klein looked up at the sky. The sun's "territory" had greatly expanded, and the crimson moon was looming in the western sky.
