Mystery: Who has seen my brother?
Chapter 129 Collar
Chapter 129 Collar
Melissa lowered her head, her eyes fixed on the necklace in her hand, her expression blurred as her gaze flickered. She slowly clenched her fist, the silver medal squeezing against her palm bit by bit, leaving a faint mark.
She raised her head, took a deep breath, walked to a corner, bent her knees slightly, put the collar on the ground, then closed her eyes and stepped over the corner.
The moment she opened her eyes, the girl immediately looked behind her.
Still in the North District! She hadn't been teleported anywhere else!
It’s indeed related to that collar!
Melissa quickly returned to her spot, picked up the collar, and clutched it tightly.
That black cat is definitely not an ordinary black cat. Could it be that I was cursed by it because I took its things without permission?
Melissa rejected this idea immediately because the abnormal factor was in the collar, not in her.
Melissa sighed inwardly, brought the collar to her eyes, and thought anxiously, "What should I do with the collar?"
She couldn't just throw it away somewhere. If someone else picked it up, it would be terrible. And if the black cat knew that she had thrown away its collar, she might take revenge on me and my family. But if she didn't throw it away, she wouldn't be able to move normally.
Melissa gripped the collar tightly, bringing a little warmth to the cold silver.
After a long time, she slowly let go of her hand.
I can’t throw it away. I’d better wait for Klein to come and discuss it with him.
Melissa frowned, sighed inwardly, looked around, and walked to the bench.
She held up the hem of her skirt with both hands and was about to sit down, but suddenly remembered that she was teleported to the North District when she stepped through the door when she returned home, so she immediately stood up.
We still don't know all the rules of the collar's transmission, so it's better not to make any unnecessary movements... Melissa pursed her lips and thought to herself, then returned to the roadside and stood by the street.
"Meow~"
A soft cat's meow suddenly entered the girl's ears.
Melissa froze in shock, her body tense, her head moving slowly and stiffly like rusted machinery. Her gaze shifted, inching closer, until a pair of brown eyes came into view.
A black cat with honey-brown eyes sat like a statue on the shop's sloping black roof. It seemed to blend into the roof, and Melissa saw only its beautiful eyes at first, then, after a closer look, she could see a cat amidst the blackness.
The girl raised her head, a hint of uneasiness in her eyes, her body trembling slightly, but she held the collar steadily in her hands and raised it upwards. Suppressing the fear in her heart, she said, "I'm sorry to have taken your collar without your permission."
Melissa's strange behavior attracted the attention of passers-by, and the frequent glances from others made her very uncomfortable.
The girl didn't want to attract attention because of extraordinary events. She just wanted to live a normal and stable life with Benson and Klein.
Melissa raised the collar in her hand, lowered her head, and tilted her head slightly to the right, trying to cover the lower half of her face with her arm. The moment she lowered her head, the girl realized that this would block her vision and make the black cat out of her sight.
Without any hesitation, Melissa immediately raised her head and looked at the black cat on the roof.
"Meow~"
The black cat jumped down from the house, turned into a black lightning, and rushed straight towards Melissa.
Melissa was frightened by the sudden change. Before she could think about why the black cat suddenly attacked her, she took a step back before she realized it. She closed her eyes, covered her head tightly with her arms, and curled up on the ground.
Suddenly, she felt a light kick on her arm, and then a force came from her hand, trying to pull the collar away from her. The force disappeared in an instant, followed by the feeling of emptiness in her hand.
The collar was taken away.
Melissa thought immediately.
She tentatively opened her eyes and carefully looked around. The black cat was gone.
"Miss, are you okay?"
Melissa's strange behavior just now has attracted the attention of some passers-by. After seeing the girl suddenly attacked by the black cat, a kind man ran over and helped her up.
"I'm fine. I was just scared, that's all. I'm not hurt," Melissa smiled at the kind gentleman. "Thank you very much, sir."
"No need to thank me, I haven't done anything worthy of thanks."
Melissa chatted with the people who gathered around her for a while, concealing the extraordinary incident and explaining her behavior. She explained that the black cat was her friend's cat, and because her friend gave Melissa its favorite collar, she ran out and snatched the collar back.
After a while, the crowd dispersed. Melissa sat on a bench and waited for a few minutes before she saw Klein running over, panting.
Klein, who always valued respectability, wore neither a coat nor a hat. His expensive, cherished white shirt was noticeably wrinkled. He only had a silver-inlaid cane to maintain his gentlemanly demeanor.
"Melissa!"
Klein breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Melissa was unharmed, and ran over quickly.
"Klein!"
Melissa immediately stood up and rushed towards Klein.
"Are you okay?" Klein looked at Melissa nervously and asked with concern, "Are you hurt?"
“No.” Melissa shook her head, looking Klein up and down. She pursed her lips and said with a hint of guilt, “Let’s go back first. We’ll talk about it later.”
"it is good."
Klein nodded and brought his sister to the stagecoach station.
When the people in the station saw the disheveled Klein, they immediately moved away from him and gathered together to whisper. Klein's excellent hearing allowed him to easily hear what the gentlemen and ladies in the station said.
It's like hiding from a gangster... Klein complained in his mind with some embarrassment.
It is hot in Tingen in July and August. It is understandable and completely reasonable for gentlemen to take off their coats at home, but it would be impolite to do so outside if they are not facing close people.
Especially since Klein was not wearing a coat or a hat, and his white shirt was wrinkled. To the conservative people of Loen, this could be considered untidy.
He was looked at like this when he came, but he was thinking about Melissa's safety at the time and didn't pay attention to these things at all. Now that he realized it, he felt quite embarrassed.
Apparently, Melissa also noticed this awkward situation. She silently took two steps forward and stood in front of Klein, trying to block her brother.
Klein saw Melissa's actions and curled his lips slightly. The embarrassment in his heart dissipated a lot. He raised his hand and patted his sister's shoulder soothingly.
The two stood one in front and the other behind, waiting for the public carriage, and took the carriage back home.
Bella looked surprised when she saw Klein's appearance. "Mr. Klein, what's wrong with you?"
"Something urgent happened at the company, so I had to rush back." Klein explained with a smile, "Melissa and I are going upstairs first. Benson will call us when he comes back."
"Okay, Mr. Klein." Bella said respectfully.
