Mystery: Who has seen my brother?

Chapter 210: Seizing the Manuscript

Chapter 210: Seizing the Manuscript
After hearing the reply from the person inside, Klein pushed the door open and walked into the office.

The office was very tidy, with documents arranged in categories on the desks and bookshelves. In the corner of the desk stood a cylindrical black pen holder, containing two black and gold pens, and another pen held by the man in the office.

When Klein pushed the door open, Soest was just putting the cap back on the pen next to him, then placing the pen on the paper in front of him. The text only occupied half of the paper, clearly an unfinished work.

"team leader."

Klein called out.

"Klein, please sit down." The smile made the man with soft features seem even more approachable. He extended his hand and gestured "please." After seeing Klein take a seat, he continued, "Klein, your training is almost over."

"Yes, probably another month or two." Klein nodded. The training time for the Red Gloves wasn't that long.

"Even including the training time, you've been a Nighthawk for less than a year." Soest couldn't help but sigh. "Your talent is astonishing. I've never seen a genius like you."

If you knew how to act, you could become a genius... Klein muttered to himself, not agreeing with Soest's words.

"However, you've only been a Beyonder for a short time. Being a Beyonder isn't just about having a high Sequence. Experience and caution are also necessary. Otherwise, even if you become a Demigod, you might still be in danger."

Klein straightened up unconsciously. He knew that the next words were the reason why Soest was looking for him.

"I've noticed that you're always learning faster than others and can complete the training requirements ahead of time. If you'd like, you can shorten your training time and join us on missions." Soest clasped his hands together and said seriously, "This is just some auxiliary work to gain experience. After all, Red Glove work is very dangerous, and without experience, you can easily get killed."

"Although there have never been Red Gloves who have gone on missions past the training phase, there have also never been Red Gloves with such junior experience as you. Special circumstances warrant special treatment, don't they?"

"Yes, yes." Klein immediately nodded and agreed. This way, he could save up contributions in advance to exchange for potions for himself, although this might keep him busy like a top.

Soest smiled gratifiedly, inwardly thinking that young people are just full of life. But the next second, he immediately put away the corner of his mouth and said seriously, "However, you must ensure that you can keep up with the training. Otherwise, we will force you to withdraw until the training is completed. In addition, you must strictly follow orders when on a mission. You are not allowed to touch anything carelessly. Report any abnormalities immediately. Do you understand?"

Klein's expression also turned serious. "Understood!"

Soest nodded with satisfaction and said, "There is a mission tonight, and it's about Hermothuin's manuscript."

"Hermothuin?" Klein felt that the surname sounded familiar. He raised his head slightly and recalled the knowledge in his mind. A piece of information flashed through Klein's mind and was suddenly grasped by him.

"Turani von Helmothuin?"

Soest nodded, confirming Klein's guess.

Turanian von Helmothuizen, the greatest scientist, mathematician, mechanician, and father of the second-generation difference engine after Emperor Roselle, it was actually him!
If it is his manuscript, could it be about the third-generation difference engine?

Soest knew what Klein was thinking without him having to speak. After all, that scientist had mysteriously disappeared while researching the third-generation Difference Engine.

"I don't know the specifics, but our mission is to get those manuscripts," Soest interrupted Klein's thoughts, tapping his fingers on the table. "We'll set off tonight."

……

The afternoon passed quickly, and the crimson moon gradually revealed itself in the sky.

Because of the mission, Klein didn't go home, but stayed in the church until the mission began. He was wearing a red glove uniform, which was very convenient for movement, saving Klein the gold pounds he would have spent on a windbreaker.

He followed his teammates to a remote, abandoned factory building, a type of facility often favored by criminals. Klein's footsteps were light, like a feline, making no sound as he walked. He followed behind his teammates, a copper penny in his hand, twirling it between his fingertips, tossing it upwards and catching it firmly.

About twenty meters away from the factory, the Red Gloves team stopped and Soest looked at Klein.

"Five people, two Sequence Six, two Sequence Seven, and one possibly a Sequence Five." Klein said in a low voice.

Soster nodded and quickly moved towards the factory using the cover, his entire body hidden in the darkness. The other team members immediately followed, hiding in different places, ready to rush in at any time.

Klein quickly ran to the bottom of the factory building. His teammate, Will York, waved to him and pointed upwards. Klein followed his finger and saw a window.

Will York clasped his hands in front of him. Klein immediately understood what he meant. He lifted his foot, using the momentum to leap upward, successfully grabbing the factory window. However, he didn't jump onto the window immediately, as that would have made him too conspicuous and easily discovered.

Hanging on the window like this was too much of a test of his arm strength, and the Diviner's Path hadn't, at least not yet, enhanced his strength. Klein could only silently pray in his heart that Captain Soest would hurry up.

A few seconds later, the muffled sound of two bodies falling to the ground reached the ears of everyone present.

"There are enemies!"

The two Sequence Sevens were already fast asleep, but the other enemies seemed to be wide awake. Such a short period of time wouldn't have much effect at the same sequence, and the two Sequence Sixes were awakened by the sudden change.

"boom!"

Upon hearing the muffled sound, Red Gloves immediately rushed in. Klein also swung his arm and leaped steadily onto the windowsill, firing through the window. After long-term, professional training with the Night Watchmen, his marksmanship had long reached a professional level.

The bullet penetrated the glass, rushed towards the dodging enemy, and pierced his arm.

"boom!"

His arm lost strength and the impact of the bullet caused the briefcase containing the manuscript to be thrown out with a loud bang.

Soest's ghost had been waiting beside him. As soon as the suitcase left his hand, he immediately rushed forward, trying to get the manuscript first, but a strange man suddenly appeared near the suitcase and snatched the manuscript away.

Aren’t there only 5 people?
Klein's pupils shrank. He didn't expect that something would go wrong on his first mission as a Red Glove.

Wait, that’s not right!
Rosego!
He had seen the man in the information provided by Meursault. He was a master of secret dolls, which meant that the man was most likely Rossego's secret doll.

And a puppet master often has more than one puppet!
"Bang!" "Bang!" "Bang!"

Without time to think, Klein fired three more shots. One shot was used to disrupt the enemy's actions, and the remaining two shots hit the two fallen Sequence Sevens. They were just sleeping and could wake up at any time. There was no telling when this battle would end, so Klein could only let them sleep forever.

The extra man did surprise the Red Gloves, but as they were experienced, they did not panic because of the sudden change.

"It's the Puppet Master!" Klein shouted to his teammates, firing his last bullet at Rosego, disrupting his Puppet Master transformation and alerting his teammates to the location of the Puppet Master.

Secret Puppet Master!

The Red Gloves understood in an instant, and unanimously set their primary target on Rossego. If they couldn't kill him quickly, even if he wasn't turned into a marionette, he would be affected by the marionette transformation.
