Chapter 222 Basement

Ok?
Klein stared at the villa across the street, observing it quietly for a long time until the workers in the courtyard stopped working.

He saw an old man in a black suit saying something to the workers and the maids and servants, and they stopped what they were doing and started to leave one after another.

has it ended?

Klein looked up at the sky. Orange-red clouds had begun to invade the territory. The rising moon and the setting sun faced each other in the distance, both emitting a gentle light.

With his brows slightly furrowed, Klein stood up, picked up the cane by the wall, and left the cafe. He tapped the ground with the cane, and the tapping sound gradually faded away from the street as his footsteps.

……

Night, when everything falls asleep, is always a favorite time for some criminals. The rich night becomes the invisibility cloak of sin.

Klein wore a black trench coat, perfect for easy movement, and his appearance was undisguised. Eve's presence was more effective than any disguise. Eve grasped Klein's right shoulder, her left arm wrapped around Ruirui. Then, space twisted, like a visible summer heatwave, only thicker and thicker. All colors instantly deepened, as if about to bleed out.

The next second, Klein saw a messy room filled with building materials. There was a hint of order in the chaos. The room was large, but the missing furniture and messy building materials made it seem unusually empty. From the classic crystal chandelier hanging from the ceiling and the two leather sofas, Klein determined that this should be the living room.

Eve released her hand, bent down, and placed Ruirui on the ground. Then, she raised her chin and said to Klein, "Go ahead, Zhou Mingrui."

Klein nodded and began to search for suspicious points in the living room. Out of caution, for this matter that Eve valued, Klein did not use divination methods, relying only on the most ancient human power to search. Because he wanted to avoid leaving any traces, Klein's movements were extremely careful.

He took a quick look around the room. The most obvious anomaly was the basement in the living room. The messy construction materials weren't piled near the basement, as if an entrance and exit had been deliberately left there. Klein guessed that the gentleman had temporarily stopped the renovations after discovering the basement, but he wondered if he had sent anyone down to investigate.

Eve walked behind Klein, gently nudged his back with her elbow, and said, "Let's go in and take a look. You go down first."

Klein remained silent. He speculated that this place might be related to the Source Treasure, so Eve had asked him, the current owner of the Source Treasure, to explore it and discover as much as possible. He pondered this as he descended the stairs to the end, entering a rather spacious basement.

There were no gas pipes here, but there were four metal candlesticks embedded in the wall. Klein snapped his fingers, and the candlesticks on the wall lit up one after another in an instant as if receiving a command. The dim flames flickered, barely illuminating the basement.

Stepping onto the stone slabs, Klein looked at the barely visible basement and couldn't help but sigh inwardly: This is truly a noble estate. Even the basement has been "finely renovated." It's almost as big as our living room... No, how can our house not be considered a noble estate? This is a great noble from the Fourth Epoch...

Thinking of this, Klein couldn't help but look back at Eve, regretting that he had traveled through time at the wrong time. Otherwise, he would have been corroded by the sinful life of the feudal aristocracy.

But it was just a casual thought. Klein was very satisfied with his current life. He quickly withdrew his thoughts and focused his energy on searching the basement.

There wasn't much debris in the basement. It must have been taken away by the noble, and the rest had been cleared out by the owner. Klein groped his way along the wall by the firelight.

"Found it." Klein suddenly said.

Eve raised her eyebrows, her lips curved slightly, and she walked quickly towards Klein.

With the help of the dim candlelight, you can see a grayish-white stone door in the corner. It should have been integrated with the wall, but now it is exposed.

Klein reached out and pushed open the stone door. Amidst the heavy sound, he saw a dark corridor.

Uh!
The sudden brightness made Klein's eyes feel a little uncomfortable. He squeezed them shut tightly, then opened them again two seconds later. He saw a brightly lit stone corridor. Eve had brought the darkness here to its "end." Now, his vision no longer hindered his exploration.

Klein looked around. There were several wooden doors on both sides and at the end of the corridor. They showed signs of decay, but were still barely usable.

It’s not too old...but the door’s flamboyant style doesn’t quite blend in with the deep and heavy stone slabs...did the noble replace it before?

Klein moved forward cautiously, step by step.

As he passed the rooms on either side, he could see through the open doors, revealing a slightly empty scene inside. He saw a bench and table that matched the style of the door. This must have been left by the owner; it seemed he had allowed people to explore. Klein briefly inspected the room and quickly left, continuing forward without pausing until he reached the black double stone door at the end.

He placed his hand on the stone door and pushed outward. A grinding sound echoed. Klein looked down and saw a white scratch on the floor. He paused and looked up at Eve.

The corners of Eve's mouth were lowered, her eyes fixed on the stone door, and her expression was obviously serious. Perhaps it was a characteristic of a witch. Although the expression was just different, Klein felt that she was like a different person.

He might have sensed Klein's gaze, or perhaps not. He simply reached out his hand, placed it on the stone door, and pushed hard. A teeth-grinding friction sound echoed in the corridor, and a crack appeared in the stone door, which quickly expanded, revealing the situation inside to outsiders.

Instantly, Klein took a deep breath and felt his scalp tingle.

Behind the stone gate is a hall, in which are lurking countless snakes of various colors, coiled together, wriggling and huddling together, forming a disgusting, exaggerated snake nest that is several meters high and more than ten meters long and wide.

Klein couldn't help but take two steps back, suppressing the urge to look away. Because of the psychological trauma he suffered in his childhood, he had always been afraid of creatures like snakes.

"You come this time." Klein swallowed and said to Eve.

Eve nodded and walked into the room. The densely packed snakes in the hall suddenly scattered and slithered in all directions as if they had seen a monster and were running away. In just one minute, countless snakes had disappeared.

Klein breathed a sigh of relief, trotted out a few quick steps to catch up with Eve, and continued forward.
