Chapter 3 Illiteracy
Three hours later, outside the city of the Sun God Territory.

Eve was more excited when she saw the simple city than when she saw the magnificent palace.

Holding Ouroboros tightly in her arms, Eve ran towards the crowd queuing outside the city. She was almost crying with joy, "Ouroboros, we are finally safe!"

There were a lot of people queuing up. Although she was at the end of the line and quite a distance away from the city gate, Eve could easily see with her sharp eyes that everyone entering the city had to show a small card.

"Sir," Eve patted the shoulder of the man in front of her and asked, "What is that thing you showed when you entered the city?"

The big man in front turned around, and Eve took a closer look. In this world where ordinary people are generally pale and thin, this big man can be considered a strong man. He held a hunting bow in one hand and a rabbit in the other. He looked like a hunter.

"You are here to escape, right? That is your ID. You can't enter the city without it." The older brother looked the two men up and down. They looked exhausted, with messy hair and clothes, and a lot of mud and wounds on their bodies.

Proof of identity?

Sun God, is it reasonable for you to be so advanced?
Why are you so different from other gods? Are you really gods of the same world?
But no matter whether it is reasonable or not, since this identity proof has been promoted by the ancient sun god, she must get two.

Eve immediately squeezed out a few tears and hugged Ouroboros, crying, "What should we do? Sir, my brother and I came from a village far away. Our village was destroyed by the magic wolf, and the villagers were all captured. Only my brother and I are left. It took us three days to get here, and we have no food left. If we can't get in, how will we survive?"

"Those demon wolves are the worst bastards in the world!" The hunter cursed angrily. He pointed at himself and said, "Don't worry, young lady. I'm also fleeing here. As long as we get here, we will be safe. The great Lord will protect us."

When the "great Lord" was mentioned, the hunter immediately showed a fanatical expression, and like the most devout missionary, he pulled Eve to preach.

"Our great Lord is the most merciful god. He came from the distant past to save humanity. All of us will walk towards the light under His guidance..."

Not only the hunter, but others also gathered around and began to preach to Eve and Ouroboros, with everyone's face filled with piety and reverence from the bottom of their hearts.

Surrounded by a group of fanatics, Eve felt weak, pitiful and helpless while holding Ouroboros, like a poor little girl who had strayed into a pyramid scheme.

Fortunately, the hunter still remembered that he was a poor kid who had been walking with his younger brother for three days and was exhausted and had not eaten yet. After praising his master three times, he pointed to a man sitting behind a small table by the city gate and said to Eve, "Just go find him." Then he kindly helped Eve disperse the crowd that surrounded her.

Eve put Ouroboros down. Even though he was very light, she was still very tired after holding him for so long.

She led Ouroboros towards the man the elder hunter brother pointed at.

"Hello, sir." Eve stood next to the man and greeted him politely.

"Hello, hello." The man who looked like a civil servant stood up when he saw Eve walking towards him. He looked very happy and said "Hello" twice before sitting down.

He pointed to the small stool in front of the table and motioned her to sit down, then picked up a pen and paper and asked, "Name?"

"Eve, and Ouroboros."

"age?"

"I'm 15, he..." Eve glanced at Ouroboros secretly. Ouroboros held up three fingers, three months.

"He's three."

"Do you have extraordinary abilities?"

"Yes, we all have it."

"Why come here?"

"Our village was destroyed by the demon wolf, and I'm the only one left. I picked up Ouroboros, and his parents were eaten by the demon."

The man looked at Eve and asked, "How did you survive?"

"I don't know either," Eve choked, her beautiful eyes filled with relief and fear. "I lost consciousness immediately after seeing the black screen, and when I woke up, I was the only one left."

The clerk asked a few more questions, and after going through a set of procedures, he took the paper full of writing in his hand, and then a golden light flashed.

"Yes," the man nodded and said, "It's true."

Eve: “!” Fortunately, she didn’t lie, although she used some little language tricks.

Ouroboros silently looked at the paper filled with information about himself and Eve. His age was wrong...

He pulled out two more pieces of paper from the table, wrote down Eve and Uniolus' basic information on them, handed them to Eve, and pointed to two small houses a hundred meters away. He said, "Give these to the person in charge of the temporary housing area. Stay there for one night. Come to me tomorrow to get your ID. There will be people distributing food there."

Eve thanked the civilian staff and carried Ouroboros to the temporary accommodation area.

There were very few people. This was Eve's first impression of it. But it was also true that people nowadays were kept in captivity by extraordinary creatures, and very few could escape.

Neither house was large. After all, there wasn't much of a need for a large house since there weren't many people there. Only four or five people were standing in the open space outside. Two of them were clearly in better spirits than the others. One was distributing food, while the other was writing something down with a pen and paper. She was probably the person in charge. Eve held Unilus in one hand and the two pieces of paper in the other. She said to the person who seemed to be in charge, "Hello, Miss. Excuse me, are you the person in charge?"

"Yes," the person in charge stopped writing, took the two pieces of paper Eve handed over, glanced at them, and exclaimed, "You all have extraordinary abilities!"

"Please wait a moment." The person in charge put down his paper and pen and ran into the small room. A moment later, he came back with a booklet. "Can you read?"

Eve was silent for a moment and looked at Ouroboros, who was also looking at her.

Silence is better than words at this time, okay, two illiterates.

Eve gave the person in charge an awkward smile. "It's okay," the person in charge shook his head and said, "Go find Miss Elizabeth in bed number seven. She's the only one here who can read besides me. Ask her to read for you."

Then he handed the booklet to Eve, and also gave her two bread and two wooden signs, with eleven and twelve written on them respectively.

"Ouroboros," Eve put the boy down, gave him a flatbread and a wooden sign, pointed to the small house opposite with one hand and pushed Ouroboros's back with the other, "You live there. Call me if you have any problems."

"No," the person in charge said, "the child is too young and needs to live with you."

"Uh..." Eve looked down at Ouroboros, "Okay then."

Eve took Ouroboros by the hand and slowly walked to the door. The girl put one hand on the door, took a deep breath, lowered her head and said to Ouroboros: "Ouroboros, don't look around after you go in. This is polite, understand?"

The little boy nodded obediently.

Eve nodded in satisfaction but still did not raise her head. The door was not locked. She exerted a little force with her hand, and the simple door slowly turned, making a slight noise that was very prominent in the silent room.

Eve looked up and glanced quickly, searching for her bed.

No one looked at them. The people in the room didn't seem to care who came or left. They were just doing their own things, sleeping or eating. In a room with more than a dozen people, even the slightest sound of a door opening could be heard clearly.

They had lost their vitality and spirit. Waves of bitterness and anger surged in her heart. Even though they were just passing through this world, she couldn't help but feel sad for these people.

On bed number seven, a little girl who looked about eleven or twelve was curled up and sleeping. That must be Miss Elizabeth, Eve thought, so she decided to wait until she woke up before going.

Putting Ouroboros on bed number 11, Eve lay down on bed number 12. "Ouroboros, are you sleeping?" Eve whispered in Ouroboros' ear.

The little boy shook his head.

Eve pointed to bed number seven and said to him, "I'll sleep for a while. Please wake me up when Miss Elizabeth wakes up."

Ouroboros looked in the direction Eve pointed, turned back and said to her, "Yeah."

Putting the booklet under the pillow, Eve pulled the quilt over the bed to cover herself. Ouroboros leaned over to help the girl straighten the quilt around her legs and cover them.

The little boy's well-behaved appearance reminded her of her younger brother, Zhou Mingrui, who was a very well-behaved boy when he was young.

Thinking of her brother, she couldn't help but think of too many things, including her childhood, her adulthood, the happy and sad ones. The past seemed to have become beautiful under the modification of time, and a sincere smile appeared on the girl's face.

Eve, who had been tense since she traveled through time, was in a good mood for once. She didn't want to think too much and ruin her good mood, so she fell asleep happily with her family.

Ouroboros looked at the girl who suddenly laughed, and though he was puzzled, he didn't ask any questions. He kept his eyes fixed on bed number seven, his mind fixed on it.

"Knock knock knock" There was a knock on the door, but no one in the house went to open it.

After a while, there was another knock on the door.

After knocking three times, the door finally opened.

Ouroboros didn't even glance at it, staring at bed number seven.

The girl in bed number seven who he was staring at was suddenly awakened by the girl who was eating next to her. The girl immediately stood up, and there was no trace of confusion in her eyes.

Miss Elizabeth woke up, Ounolius thought, and wanted to wake Eve up.

But before he could act, the girl next to Eve took the lead, put her hand on Eve's shoulder, and shook her violently twice to wake the girl up.

"Oh?" Eve immediately opened her eyes and sat up, startled by the scene in front of her. The confusion in her eyes after waking up was quickly replaced by clarity.

Aside from her and Ouroboros, everyone else in the room knelt toward the door. Standing outside was a handsome man with black curly hair and elegant attire. Behind him stood a woman, the head of the temporary housing complex. The people inside knelt cautiously and respectfully, fearing for their lives.
