The Han culture is spreading strongly in Southeast Asia

Chapter 505: The Chaos in Shaanxi and Gansu

Chapter 505: The Chaos in Shaanxi and Gansu
China's Muslim religion has always been divided into new religion and old religion.

The Old School is called the Gedem School, which originated from the Hanafi school of Islamic Islam.

Its founder Abu Hanifa al-Nurman and his main disciples Abu Yusuf and Muhammad Shaybani lived from the late eighth century to the early ninth century.

At that time, Muslims were still an emerging and advanced religious sect, born in the open civilization of West Asia, and then gave back to the region.

The Hanafi school values the spirit of sharia without being bound by religious doctrines. In simple terms, it values the positive and good spirit of sharia without being dogmatic, and does not live by mechanically following the Quran.

This reflected the open and powerful period of Muslim religion, so when the Hanafi school was introduced to China, it was even smoother than the introduction of Buddhism.

This spirit of being open, non-dogmatic and relatively non-conservative, although having the drawbacks of monotheism, is easily accepted and absorbed by Chinese culture.

Although in the years that followed, the Chinese Qadim sect, which was derived from the Hanafi sect, was conservative and traditional and unwilling to accept new things.

But they can generally adhere to the basic principle of non-interference and non-attack on the beliefs and lives of other religions and other people.

At the same time, within its own ranks, the old church follows the principle of small church districts, that is, the church districts are divided into small areas, which are not subordinate to each other and do not interfere with each other, and each follows its own imam.

Even later on, the old religion took the initiative to sinicize itself, and used the Four Books and Five Classics to explain its doctrines.

Imams (small religious leaders), khatibs (missionaries), muezzins (musehs), etc. began to transform into school directors and village elders.

If this process is not interrupted, it would be a great blessing. Perhaps a moderate Muslim culture with Chinese characteristics can be formed. Then it would be a good thing if the Hui people become a Han ethnic group with special customs in the northwest.

But when beautiful things come, there will always be disgusting things that come and forcibly interrupt them, just like when the Qing Dynasty came to rule China, interrupted China's progress, and went against the trend.

With the gradual decline of Muslim culture in Europe and the rapid rise of Western Europe, the Turks were wantonly shooting arrows at the heads of Arabs.

In order to protect itself, Muslim culture began to frantically return to conservatism and began to use various unconventional means to be xenophobic. This sectarian ideology also quickly affected China.

The new religion currently popular in Shaanxi and Gansu, represented by the four major sects such as the Jahriyya and Kuburiyya, is the virus that spread into China after the Islamic religion went to extremes.

They stir up ethnic conflicts, rush in when something happens, and snatch other people's resources. This approach, coupled with the harsh environment in the northwest, is of course more popular with young people than the conservative, boring and rule-abiding old teachings.

But this is also the way to death. Historically, Protestantism triggered the Hui Rebellion in Shaanxi and Gansu. Gansu, which was the worst hit, lost more than 75% of its population, and Muslims were killed to less than 10% of their original population.

However, in order to still be able to recover Xinjiang, Zuo Wenxiang chose to compromise and put forward the famous principle of not asking about Han or Hui people, but only asking whether there was rebellion.

This issue was not dealt with properly and began to revive during the Republic of China period. Ma Mingzhang, the great-grandson of the Jahriyya clan, publicly committed suicide in Lanzhou.

In Lanzhou, they commemorated the murdered Ma Mingxin, Su Forty-three and others, speaking in Arabic, chanting scriptures around Jincheng to mourn, their tears streaming down like rain, their voices shaking the roof tiles and shocking the whole city.

Then, they welcomed their destined man, Wang Huzi, who came to govern the northwest. These Protestant separatists were put to death one after another, and the northwest was at peace.

Unfortunately, after 35 years of the Republic, the country increasingly needed oil from the Middle East, and Saudi Arabia even took the initiative to offer a large sum of money to purchase the sword that would protect the country as a gesture of goodwill.

In order to obtain valuable foreign exchange and even more importantly, to obtain oil for economic development, Saudi Arabia had to agree to Saudi Arabia's request for pilgrimage to Mecca.

It is spreading again, but fortunately some people are aware of the dangers. The fact that all the domes have been changed to traditional styles in recent years is a clear proof of this.

Because the temples of the Gedimu sect are all Chinese-style, while most Protestants prefer the Sorceress style.

. . . .

In Huayin County, the flames of riot spread quickly.

As a prefecture-level county near Xi'an, Huayin is relatively wealthy in the northwest. A large number of Muslims moved here to make a living. As the population increased, the conflicts with the locals became extremely prominent.

Then, Yongxuan, Fu Yu and other fools ignored Wang Jie's advice and took a fancy to the large number of believers here.

With their support, the local old religious leaders who owned a large amount of land quickly formed a militia of believers and announced their support for Yongxuan. Yongxuan also allocated a batch of guns and cannons to them.

But in fact, the believers in Huayin and other prefectures and counties seemed to be controlled by the elders of the old religion, but the young people below were unwilling to listen to these old men.

Therefore, when Wang Jie and others released the news, it immediately caused panic and agitation among a large number of believers.

They immediately knocked to the ground the few old sect members who blocked their way, snatched the guns and cannons they had been trained with, and started making trouble.

Wang Jie had already sent his family to Huayin County and other places to observe. When he saw the incident break out, he immediately ran to the Governor's Office and blocked a group of bannermen in the house.

"Eighth Prince, General Wu, I have been telling you earnestly that those old sect leaders are simply unable to control the new believers below, but you just wouldn't believe me. Now, something has happened.

Tongzhou, Huayin, Tongguan, Huazhou, and Weinan are all populous areas and are also gathering places for Christians from Guanzhong. If they cause trouble, it will spread like wildfire, and the Han people will suffer heavy casualties."

Wang Jie said this, beating his chest and stamping his feet, "I have been terribly harmed by you, terribly harmed by you!

When the Dayu soldiers enter Guanzhong to avenge the Han people, who among us will be able to escape? I'm afraid we will all be dragged to the Four Archways of the West Market and cut into pieces!"

Wang Jie always appeared calm and wise, as if he had everything under control. All the high-ranking officials of the Banner, including Yongxuan, had never seen him like this before, and they were immediately frightened to the point of going numb all over.

Yongxuan, in particular, was not particularly capable to begin with. He had happily come to Shaanxi and Gansu, thinking he could take charge of a region and experience the thrill of being the master of a region. However, upon arriving in Shaanxi and Gansu, Yongxuan discovered that making progress was fraught with difficulties, and that he had to make all the decisions.

For one thing, ten people have ten different suggestions, and he has no idea which one is right and which one is wrong.

There is a drought here today, a flood there tomorrow, and trouble somewhere else the day after tomorrow. The petitions are piled higher than people.

It didn't take half a year before Yongxuan gave up. He fully realized that he was a fool and was not fit to be a leader.

He admitted that he was simply incapable of doing this job. He now just wanted to ignore everything else, listen to operas and sing songs with singing girls every day, or go on picnics and hunting trips with some scholars.

"Mr. Xingyuan, what should we do? What should we do?"

Thinking that not only would he not be able to enjoy a good life, but that he would probably be cut into pieces in the near future, Yongxuan immediately collapsed under the enormous pressure and burst into tears.

"I don't want to die, I don't want to die, I haven't lived enough, I don't want to die!"

Seeing Yongxuan crying loudly without dignity, none of the bannermen present blamed him. At most, they felt a little disgusted by his shame.

Because if we could live, who among us would want to die?

General Wu Mitai of Xi'an shuddered. He heard that Heshen was doing well with the emperor and was about to change his surname to Heshen.

Although his daughter was Heshen's stepmother and was not very kind to him when he was a child, there was always some friendship between them. After all, he was Heshen's legitimate grandfather who had to be acknowledged by Heshen.

So Wu Mitai came out quickly to comfort Yongxuan who was crying, then looked at Wang Jie and said:

"Great Wang, now that things have come to this, what's the point in blaming each other? You've always been smart and capable. The Emperor entrusted the Eighth Prince to you. At this moment, you must protect the Eighth Prince's life.

As for the rest, the Bannermen's world is gone, and we can accept anything as long as we can survive."

Wu Mitai was not confused. He knew that a civil servant as thoughtful as Wang Jie could not have no backup plan, so he directly revealed all the conditions on his side.

What Wang Jie was waiting for was Wu Mitai's statement on behalf of the bannermen. He glanced around, and all the bannermen whose eyes met his expressed that as long as they could survive, they would accept anything else.

Wang Jie pretended to think for a moment, then quickly said, "There are ways. We have established militias in Guanzhong over the years, and there are also several thousand bannermen in Xi'an. Let's pull them out first to control the situation.

General Wang Wubing of the Andong Army of Dayu is stationed in Shanzhou in the east with thousands of elite soldiers under his command. We should invite him to cross the border to suppress the rebellion.

The Governor-General of Shaanxi, Gansu and Sichuan, the Imperial Consort Commander, and Lord Li, the Duke of Shuofang, have already arrived at Jiange. We can send some people to Hanzhong to welcome him.

Of course, the most important thing is to quickly write a surrender letter and send it to Beijing!"

Damn, as soon as you see this skillful operation, you can tell that it was planned long ago, but the bannermen didn't dare to say anything. They had to thank Wang Jie profusely and do what he said.

However, these people still underestimated the power of a rebellion by a group that accounts for 20% of the total population and is usually highly organized.

The army in Xi'an City had not yet begun to assemble, but the flames of war outside were already burning higher than the sky.

And it's not just in Shaanxi, or rather, Shaanxi is just child's play, Gansu is the real deadly place.

Gansu at this time was the Greater Gansu in history, which included the entire Gansu and Ningxia provinces in later generations, as well as Qinghai including Xining, and a small part of Shaanxi and Xinjiang.

There are about 16.5 million people in the province, of which more than 30% are Christians, and some say close to 40%.

Lanzhou, formerly known as Jincheng, became the largest city and provincial capital of Gansu after Liangzhou withdrew from the list of the largest cities in Hexi and Longyou.

However, today's Lanzhou City has none of the bustling comings and goings of the past, but all four gates are closed.

It turned out that the new Christians Su Forty-three, Han Erge and others from Hezhou (Linxia) first attacked and killed the old Christian villages in Hezhou, killing hundreds of old Christian people.

Lanzhou prefect Yang Shiji, Hezhou deputy general Xin Zhu and others went to mediate, but they didn't know that Su Forty-three and others had already planned it and were determined to kill officials and rebel. As a result, Yang Shiji and others were ambushed and killed.

Su Forty-three, Han Erge and others then led 10,000 people to capture Hezhou, killed the prefect and others, and then massacred more than ten villages and forts of Han, Laojiao and other civilians, killing tens of thousands of civilians, and approached the city of Lanzhou.

Le Erjin, the Minister of Military Affairs of Gansu Province in the Qing Dynasty, followed the advice of Xie Heng, the Tongpan of Lanzhou, and captured Ma Mingxin, the master of Su Forty-three and the leader of the Jahriyya sect, and ordered him to persuade Su Forty-three to stop fighting.

Ma Mingxin is a thief who was taken in by a Yemeni Imam during his pilgrimage. His heart has long been blackened. He only has religion and no humanity.

He had already decided to make a big splash and change Gansu's appearance, so when he reached the city wall, instead of trying to persuade people, he chanted ancient scriptures in his foreign language (Arabic).

Praise Mahmud as the only true prophet of God and encourage believers to fight for God and sacrifice their lives for their religion.

When the rebels such as Su Forty-three and Han Erge heard Ma Mingxin's words, they immediately dismounted from their horses, burst into tears, and called Ma Mingxin a saint. They responded in the foreign language (Arabic) and the chanting continued for a long time.

Le Erjin realized that he had been tricked, so he ordered the Gansu Governor Wang Danwang to behead Ma Mingxin on the city wall.

Su Forty-three fell to the ground and burst into tears, while Han Erge and Han Sailimai, brother and sister, instigated the believers from behind. The news quickly spread throughout the province, and the riots broke out like a volcano.
