The Han culture is spreading strongly in Southeast Asia

Chapter 539: Prying Open the Satsuma Domain's Dog Mouth
The so-called Thirty-Six Surnames of the Ryukyu Fujianese were from when the King of Chuzan of Ryukyu, Sattu, paid tribute to the Ming Dynasty after the establishment of the Ming Dynasty. He admired the culture and elegance of the Celestial Empire and envied the rich life in China.

We specifically requested the Hongwu Emperor to grant some Chinese people to Ryukyu to enrich Ryukyu culture and develop Ryukyu economy.

Especially in grassroots education, navigation, stonemasonry, carpentry and other trades, to improve Ryukyu's productivity.

Of course, there is another function that was not clearly stated in later generations, which is to pass on the seeds.

At that time, the Han people and other ethnic groups on the mainland were tall, fair-skinned, and well-mannered, and were called the superior Chinese.

The people in places like Ryukyu are short, dark and thin, so they have always had the habit of looking for Han people to cross over and breed with them.

The requirement of crossing the lineage is not exclusive to Ryukyu. In fact, many countries and nations have completed this stage before Ryukyu, and Ryukyu was actually the last one to complete it.

For example, before Ryukyu, the Goryeo Dynasty on the peninsula and Japan, mainly from the Nara period to the Kamakura period, both sought a large number of Han people to migrate in order to improve the customs of the local race.

This is an extreme phenomenon that only occurs when there is a generational gap from culture to economy, and at the spiritual and material levels, leading to unilateral crushing.

After all, human civilization has only existed for a few thousand years, which can only be regarded as a short moment in evolution.

Therefore, even modern humans have many genes that reflect remnants of the most primitive times.

This kind of view of the powerful side is almost mythical in the mind, and people have a paranoid and fanatical desire to join the strong.

At the same time, there is also the admiration for strength that comes with self-depreciation of one's own ethnic group and the hope of changing one's appearance and integrating into the new ethnic group. This is a primitive legacy hidden in human genes.

This was in primitive times. In order to ensure their own survival, humans put a patch in their genes. Once triggered, the disease would become quite fanatical.

This is also the reason why many Ezreal girls in later generations would get stars in their eyes and exclaim how handsome they are when they see a white guy.

This is also the important reason why heroes who can suppress this desire through acquired practice, acquired learning and strong national self-esteem, dedicate themselves to their nation and drag an ethnic group forward are the most respected.

This is not something that can be done easily, but it requires using acquired practice to fight against innate genes.

Since the thirty-six surnames of Fujian people in Ryukyu took on the task of crossing the border, they were arranged to live in Kume Village, less than two kilometers away from Shuri Castle.

Therefore, these Chinese people who came from Fujian are also called the Thirty-six Kume Surnames.

Of course, these thirty-six surnames are just like the thirty-six surnames of Huiliang created by Mo Zibu, which is an imaginary number.

According to statistics from later generations, there are only 25 surnames among the 36 surnames of the Fujian people in Ryukyu.

Later, in order to make up the thirty-six surnames, the Ryukyu royal family deliberately added ten Ryukyu surnames and one Japanese surname.

The first people to cross the sea to Kume Village during the Hongwu and Yongle dynasties were only nine families, namely Jin Ying from Wenzhou, Zhejiang, Cai Chong from Nan'an, Quanzhou, Fujian, Zheng Yicai from Changle, Fuzhou, Hong Ying from Houguan, Fuzhou, Lin Xi from Minxian, Fuzhou, and Chen Kang.

The remaining sixteen surnames continued to exist until the end of the Ming Dynasty. Even in the early years of Emperor Kangxi's reign, Niu Rongsheng was ordered to go to Jiume Village. They went there one after another over a period of nearly three hundred years.

Because of the different times of arrival, their status is also different.

For example, the nine clans that arrived first married into the Ryukyu royal family and the upper-class aristocracy known as the Shuri samurai.

The later sixteen surnames married into much lower-class marriage partners, and most of them married within their own circles.

The Wu family, which Ye Mingyue once had high hopes for, is the descendant of one of the original nine surnames, but it is not the paternal line but the maternal line.

Its origins can be traced back to the Yongli period in history, when the first Shang Dynasty was enfeoffed by the Ming Dynasty and given the surname Shang. As a distant branch of the royal family, the Wu family did not receive a surname, but they also found a surname for themselves - Wu.

Because Japan is close to China and Ryukyu, it has been greatly influenced by Wu in history. For a long time, Wu could even refer to China.

Then in the 1691st year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi (), the King of Ryukyu changed the surname of all royal branches to Xiang, because Xiang seemed to have two fewer dots than Shang, which was very suitable as a surname for the royal family's close branches.

Therefore, this Wu family should actually be classified as a member of the royal family, not a Kumehan.

Ye Mingyue got furious and felt quite unhappy. At this time, he was only twenty-one years old, and his life so far had been quite smooth.

Ye Mingyue was born into a family of meritorious officials in Nanyang. His father was a pioneer warrior certified by the emperor when he was the king of Phraya Andai. Even after his intestines were pierced and his stomach was broken, he still killed more than ten natives. Relying on his superb martial arts and extraordinary vitality, he managed to rise from a farmer to a vassal.

The Ye family of Shangjingtangzhai, Jiaying Prefecture, where Ye Mingyue's family came from, was the most powerful Hakka family in the new dynasty.

Ye Yizheng, the younger sister of Concubine De, is his cousin; Ye Xianchun, the General of Anxi and Earl of Pingyuan, is his uncle; Ye Xianyang, the Duke of Tao, who is one of the benchmark vassal states in Nanyang, is his uncle.

Moreover, these were not distant cousins, but his father Ye Xiancai was a brother of the father of Concubine De, Earl Pingyuan, and Marquis Tao, and they were blood relatives with the same grandfather.

At the same time, Ye Mingyue's father-in-law Lin Tonghuo is the dignified Wanlong Junbo, also the Jianji Palace Grand Secretary, the cousin of Houguan Bo Lin Qiaoyin, and he comes from the Houguan Lin family, which is one of the few aristocratic families in Fuzhou.

This family background is the most typical standard template for the second generation of nobles in the Dayu Dynasty.

Ye Mingyue not only has such a family background, but is also very capable.

At the age of twelve, he traveled across the ocean to France to study. He was arranged to live in the home of the Marquis of Castelnau and was taught by the famous French general and colonist, the Marquis of Castelnau, Boots.

Ye Mingyue studied in France for five years and briefly served as a trainee officer in the guard of King Louis XVI. He has witnessed grand scenes in both the East and the West.

"Still angry! This is not like the behavior of a son of an honored official or a hero of the sea."

Just when Ye Mingyue was angry, one of his father-in-laws, Lin Qiaowei from the eldest branch of the Houguan Lin family walked in and smiled as he tried to persuade Ye Mingyue, who was still a young man.

The Houguan Lin family is actually a very broad concept, a bit similar to the Nanyang Zhang family known as the Zhang Yichao family in history. It is a general term for a fancy sedan that everyone carries.

Houguan Lin is actually the name given by outsiders, and the family is further subdivided within themselves.

For example, Lin Qiaoyin and Lin Qiaowei, the Houguan Lin family, should actually be called the Shuixi Lin family.

Therefore, this Shuixi Lin is not the Lin of Lin Zexu, Lin Wen Zhonggong, who was also from Houguan, nor is it the Lin of Lin Juemin and Lin Huiyin.

The true founders of Shuixilin were Lin Chunze, a doctor of the Ministry of Justice in Nanjing during the Jiaqing, Longlong and Wanli periods of the Ming Dynasty, his son Lin Yingliang, the right assistant minister of the Ministry of Revenue, and his eldest grandson Lin Ruchu, the right assistant minister of the Ministry of Works.

The father and his two sons passed the imperial examinations one after another and only then were they able to prop up the Shuixilin family's reputation.

The reason why Lin Qiaowei is also Ye Mingyue's father-in-law is because his legal father-in-law Lin Tonghuo went abroad in his early years, and the daughter he left behind, who is Ye Mingyue's legal wife, has lived with her cousin Lin Qiaowei since she was six years old.

According to Chinese tradition, the grace of raising a child is not as great as the grace of giving birth to one, so Lin Qiaowei is indeed one of Ye Mingyue's legitimate fathers-in-law. "Sir, I seem to be a little overwhelmed by anger." Upon hearing Lin Qiaowei's words, Ye Mingyue hurried over to greet him.

Lin Qiaowei waved his hand to let Ye Mingyue get up. Of course, he would not attack Ye Mingyue at this time. That was not what relatives should do.

"You were full of vigor and ambition before. If I, an old man, had been more talkative, you might have thought I was taking advantage of my age and didn't understand the new era of Dayu.

You suffered a setback today, but this is actually a good thing, as it will allow you to gain a clearer understanding of yourself and the world."

As he spoke, Lin Qiaowei sighed deeply with envy, "You were born in a good era. The Han Dynasty has regained its power. The current emperor is willing to delegate power and generous with rewards. No matter what you do, there are people who support you.

If I were twenty years younger, I would definitely go out and explore the world."

Lin Qiaowei had a reason for saying this, because after Shui Xilin experienced the glory of three father and son becoming Jinshi in the late Ming Dynasty, his literary fortune soon began to decline.

Lin Qiaowei certainly would not blame this on the decline in the reading ability of Shui Xilin's descendants, but rather blamed it very normally on the fact that the Manchu bannermen took too many official hats.

As a result, there were not enough places to go among the Han gentry in the world, and the fierce competition caused the quality of the Shuixilin imperial examinations to decline year by year.

After sighing, Lin Qiaowei began to tell Ye Mingyue about the thirty-six surnames of the Fujian people in Ryukyu.

The reason why he knew it so clearly was because the Jiashan Lin family, one of the thirty-six surnames, was a distant relative of the Shuixi Lin family.

"These thirty-six surnames were originally sent to Ryukyu by the Ming Emperor. After arriving in Ryukyu, their descendants monopolized four official student quotas, so they have a deep affection for the Ming Dynasty.

After Jiashen, the Ming Dynasty fell, and the thirty-six surnames in Ryukyu refused to shave their heads and change their clothes, and also regarded themselves as loyal overseas citizens.

However, Ryukyu had to rely on the mainland in all aspects. Under the questioning of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, the Ryukyu Regent Xiang Xiangxian implemented reforms.

All thirty-six surnames and their descendants were forced to wear Ryukyu clothing and tie Ryukyu buns, abandoning the symbols of the Han people in their clothing and hairstyle.

And the Wu Chengyong you recruited is none other than the fourth-generation grandson of Xiang Xiangxian."

The so-called official students are a kind of protected students. The Ming Dynasty gave Ryukyu four places every three years, specifically to win over the Ryukyu people and spread Chinese culture.

"What a thief, what a thief, it turns out to be a den of thieves passed down from generation to generation!" Ye Mingyue almost exploded with anger after hearing this. It turned out that from the very beginning, he had found the wrong person and went in the wrong direction.

Lin Qiaowei glanced at Ye Mingyue, whose face was flushed red, and decided to take the opportunity to give him more information and teach him a good lesson.

"And that's not all. Xiang Xiangxian is a well-known pro-Satsuma faction in the Ryukyu Kingdom. He obtained his position as regent by kneeling to the Satsuma lord Shimazu Mitsuhisa.

After taking office, Xiang Xiangxian immediately abolished the Ryukyu king's sacrifices and pilgrimages to the mountain god of Kudakashima Island, no longer insisted on Ryukyu culture, but instead required Ryukyu officials to learn Japanese-style tea ceremony and flower arrangement.

He even recorded the founder of the Ryukyu Kingdom, Emperor Shunten, as the son of the Wa people, Minamoto no Tametomo, in an attempt to abandon China and recognize the Wa people as their parent nation.

Ye Mingyue was completely silenced by Lin Qiaowei's words. After a while, he raised his head, then knelt on the ground and thanked him, "Thank you for your teachings, father-in-law. Mingyue knows his mistakes and will definitely learn from them."

"Hahahaha!" Lin Qiaowei laughed with satisfaction. "I thought you were going to say you were going to kill Xiang Xiangxian's entire clan."

Ye Mingyue knelt on the ground and did not get up, and answered very solemnly: "Of course we must kill the entire Xiangxian clan, but this will not solve the problem fundamentally.

According to what the adults said, Xiang Xiangxian is just a dog of the Japanese Satsuma Domain.

The Satsuma Domain was a tiny country, and its lord was even poorer than a merchant from Fujian or Guangdong. Yet, it was able to control the Ryukyu Islands and force them to break away from China. There must have been deep-seated reasons for this.

If we don’t find the reason, Satsuma dogs will continue to appear in Ryukyu in the future.”

"Good boy, well said!" Lin Qiaowei clapped his hands and praised, "It just so happens that I know the reason, which is that the Ming Dynasty doesn't care about Ryukyu at all.

During the Wanli Korean War, the Satsuma Shimazu clan, under the orders of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, invaded Ryukyu and conquered the country in 40 days with only 3,000 men.

The surviving royal family of Ryukyu asked the Ming Dynasty for help. Emperor Wanli was willing to send troops, but the civil officials flatly refused on the grounds that the Korean war cost a huge amount of money and the court was unable to make ends meet. It was not advisable to send troops thousands of miles to a small overseas island.

From then on, Ryukyu could no longer stand up straight. Although it was suffering from the exploitation of the Satsuma Domain, it no longer had much hope in the Ming Dynasty.

At the same time, when the Satsuma Domain attacked Ryukyu, Zheng Yu, the leader of the Thirty-Six Clans who was then the Sanshiguan, fought desperately, but was defeated and boiled to death by Shimazu Tadatsune, the first lord of the Satsuma Domain.

At this point, Lin Qiaowei sighed, "Since the time of Emperor Hongwu, the Ming Dynasty has trained four official students every three years for over two hundred years. A large number of Ryukyu officials close to the Ming Dynasty were trained, but almost all of them were slaughtered in this battle, and the Ming Dynasty court did not avenge them at all.

Since then, the status of the thirty-six surnames of Fujianese who came to Ryukyu from the mainland has rapidly declined, and few of them have served as Sansi officials. Even among the thirty-six surnames, some have become close to the Satsuma domain.

"I understand." After Ye Mingyue stood up with the help of her father-in-law Lin Qiaowei, she said very solemnly: "In the final analysis, it is because the people of Ryukyu no longer believe that China can continue to protect them.

However, in order to avoid provoking a strong backlash from the whole of Japan, Your Majesty did not allow me to use the name of the court when I was planning in Ryukyu this time.

In the eyes of these Ryukyu people, this was either some daring big sea merchant from Fujian who wanted to seize Ryukyu and cause trouble.

Or maybe some high-ranking official in the imperial court acted on a whim, so they didn't dare to cooperate with me at all. Everyone was still very afraid of the power of the Satsuma domain."

"I don't know much about military affairs. Apart from the thirty-six surnames, I don't know much about the Japanese Satsuma Domain." Lin Qiaowei was still very cautious, afraid of making a wrong judgment in front of the children, which would affect the image of the elders.

"But I know who knows." Lin Qiaowei took out a visiting card and said to Ye Mingyue, "I have already written the visiting card for you. This visiting card is for Zheng Qinggong, the Marquis of Yanping and the Governor-General of Liangnan. He has been ill recently and is recuperating in his old house in Shuixi.

Marquis of Yanping is a descendant of King Zhongwu of Fujian (Zhu Chenggong). The former brother of King Zhongwu of Fujian, Tanaka Shichizaemon, stayed in Japan. His descendants are still in Nagasaki. It is said that they recently ventured out to sea to Fujian and contacted Marquis of Yanping.

Mr. Tagawa is Japanese and should know more about the situation.

Furthermore, after Ryukyu's Third Minister Zheng Yugong was boiled to death by the Satsuma Domain, his brother Zheng Zhou hid under a false name. His descendants settled in Takagi County, Satsuma, and we can keep in touch with them.

The Governor-General of Liangnan is the Governor-General's Office of the two provinces of Guangnan and Rinan in Nanyang

Koxinga's younger brother, Tagawa Shichizaemon, does have descendants in Japan.

Ye Mingyue was overjoyed, "The Fuqing Wei family's policy of purchasing Japanese rice at high prices and recruiting Japanese pirates has yielded great results.

I have accomplished nothing because I don't understand the truth. If I can get the help of the two Zhengs, I will definitely be able to pry open the mouths of the Satsuma Domain!"
