Chapter 18 James's Midnight Visit
"Dong dong dong..."

Green's eyes snapped open.

He glanced at Vanessa who was still sleeping soundly beside him, got up, put on his pajamas and walked into the living room.

"Dong dong dong..."

The knocking on the door continued, sounding very harsh in the quiet night.

Green took out a pistol from the drawer, held it in his hand, and walked towards the door step by step.

When his hand grasped the door handle, the knocking sound suddenly stopped.

For a moment, Green could only hear his own light breathing.

Without further hesitation, he turned the doorknob and flung the door open.

Then he raised his pistol and pointed it at the door.

However, unexpectedly, the person standing outside the door was none other than his old friend James.

"Fake!"

Green cursed fiercely and lowered his arm holding the pistol: "Are you sick of it in the middle of the night?"

However, in the face of Green's curse, James did not show any displeasure.

He grabbed Green's arm and said anxiously, "Mia is in trouble again, come with me!"

As he said that, he pulled Green and tried to walk out.

Green slammed James away, frowning and asking, "What's going on?"

"There's no time to explain, just go ahead and talk!"

James acted very anxious, as if a big problem was about to happen in the next second.

Seeing this, Green was helpless. He pointed to his pajamas and said, "At least let me change my clothes."

"Then hurry up, it's really urgent!"

"Wait, it'll be soon!"

Green didn't close the door and turned back to the bedroom.

Just as he was changing clothes, Vanessa in bed woke up after hearing the noise.

"what happened?"

She looked sleepy and looked at Green in a daze.

"James came to see me and said it was something important."

Green explained.

"Oh, then come back early."

Vanessa gave a warning and then wrapped the quilt around herself.

She and James were old acquaintances and knew that Green had helped him solve several difficult problems.

I guess James has encountered another problem this time.

"I know, you go to sleep first."

Green buttoned the last button, bent down and kissed Vanessa on the forehead, then turned and left the bedroom.

"Take my car!"

James had been waiting anxiously for a long time and kept pacing around in the same place.

Seeing Green coming out of the bedroom, he pulled him towards the elevator.

Soon, the two of them got into James' old Ford.

"Why didn't you call me?"

Green turned his head and looked at James, who was concentrating on driving. "Wouldn't it be a waste of time if you came to pick me up?"

"I was so anxious that I didn't think about it for a while."

James answered casually.

"Oh."

Green nodded and said nothing more.

For a moment, the car fell into silence, with only the noise of the tires rolling over the road.

But soon, Green spoke again.

"I remember……"

He turned his head and looked at James: "I don't think I told you about my move."

After hearing this, James was obviously stunned.

"I asked the priest in the church, and he told me where you live now."

James laughed it off and explained how he found Green's address.

"I haven't told Father Peter either."

Green had a calm expression on his face, his eyes fixed on James.

The carriage fell into silence again.

"Do you still want to pretend?"

Green's hand had already touched the holster hanging on his waist.

The next second, James suddenly turned the steering wheel.

The old Ford, which was driving at high speed, lost control and crashed into a tree on the side of the road. "Fuck!"

Green rubbed his chest, and a sharp pain instantly spread throughout his body.

He didn't expect James to be so decisive, and he only had time to protect his head.

However, compared with James who was driving, his injury was not serious.

Green turned his head and saw James lying on the steering wheel, with blood on his face dripping down the exploded airbag.

Enduring the severe pain in his chest, Green kicked open the deformed car door.

Then he opened the driver's door and pulled the unconscious James down.

"Not dead yet."

Green withdrew his fingers from James' carotid artery.

But then he frowned.

Although James was still alive, his breathing was very weak and the wound on his head was bleeding.

To understand why James did what he did today, he must survive.

Green returned to the car and planned to find something to bandage James.

As a sheriff, James must have first aid supplies in his car.

Quickly, Green pulled out a small first aid kit from under the passenger seat.

Quickly returning to James' side, Green opened the first aid kit.

"Fuck you, you can't die!"

Green was busy with his hands and kept cursing angrily.

He must figure out why James wants to hurt him!

At first he thought James was being controlled by someone through some means.

But there was no movement in the magic circle, which meant that James did not have any extraordinary energy!
Green bandaged James while cursing, and when he was about to cut the gauze, the unconscious James suddenly opened his eyes.

At the same time, a familiar burning sensation came from the magic circle on his wrist.

Green slowly released his grip and looked James straight in the eyes.

Compared to usual, James' eyes were rolled back at this moment, with no pupils visible, looking empty and lifeless.

It was as if all consciousness and soul had been extracted from this body, leaving only a shell mechanically maintaining its breathing.

"who are you?"

Green asked.

However, James did not respond.

Just as Green was about to ask again, James spoke.

"Hand over your stuff."

"Ok?"

Green frowned slightly, not understanding what James was talking about.

He looked at James, who looked like a walking corpse, and asked, "What is it?"

"silver."

There was no emotion in James' words.

"Hand over the silver, or you and everyone around you will die."

After hearing this, Green immediately lost the desire to continue the conversation.

He let out a long breath, slowly stood up, and looked at James in front of him.

"I will find you, no matter who you are, no matter where you are."

"When I find you, you'll regret what you're doing now."

James raised his head slightly and glanced at Green.

Then he said nothing, closed his eyes and tilted his head to the side.

Green looked quietly at James lying on the ground.

He knew that the mastermind had left because the magic circle on his wrist no longer emitted a burning sensation.

"silver……"

Green remembered the silver coin Father Gabriel left him.

"That thing is indeed not simple."

The mastermind behind this incident can manipulate a middle-aged man like James at will.

Whether he is a demon or something else, he is very powerful.

At least Green has never seen such an opponent.

"It's really troublesome."

Green sighed helplessly.

There will be more work to do next.

 I thought I had posted it, but it didn’t work. . .
