Chapter 54 Old Leader

Chapter 54 Old Leader

The three of them got out of the car and walked towards the small bungalow that looked ordinary, even shabby and shabby.

Along the way, in addition to the visible watchtowers, Lin Wang also saw at least ten suppressors operating at full capacity.

Lin Wang even saw no less than three temple soldiers in the courtyard. Light flowed out from the thick scripture cloth as if it were real.

The defense here is even stronger than that of a prison!

But they are all guarding this room?

Who are they guarding against? Their legion commander?
With deep confusion, Lin Wang and the other two walked into the cabin.

In front of me was an incredibly simple room with a wooden table and chairs, a set of bowls and chopsticks with two uneaten side dishes on them, and some daily necessities in the corner, placed randomly and messily.

Just looking at this picture, you might even think that the person living here is a lonely elderly person, a common sight in rural areas.

"The captain usually lives here." Old Qiao said softly.

Lin Wang understood the meaning behind his words: "If he lives here, then he usually works..."

"Come with me."

Old Joe took the two men into the next room - a very dark bedroom. Under the gaze of the two men, he walked to the bed and pulled open the bed board.

"I understand! You hid a tunnel under the bed!" Tian Taozi clapped her hands, very happy.

"What are you talking about? Who can be locked up with such a stupid design?" Old Joe slapped the bed board, and a row of buttons flipped out from under the bed, and the buttons kept flashing.

"...Ah?" Tian Taozi was stunned. "What is this?"

Lin Wang was also a little surprised: he really didn't expect things to unfold like this.

"This is a shadow prison. They've forcibly carved out a space within the shadows," Old Joe said in a deep voice, his hands constantly tapping buttons. "They've locked people in the shadows of the building. Without a replacement ritual, the prisoners will never escape."

When the button was pressed, there was a slight tremor in the air of the room. The dim light in the four corners of the room suddenly shattered like a mirror, flipped and distorted.

A low buzzing sound was heard.

As the fragments twisted, they gradually flipped to completely new angles. After more than ten seconds, when the fragments stopped flipping, they reorganized and reflected each other, illuminating a completely new space inside.

The space is simple and plain, with a table and a bed. The old man sits at the table with his back to everyone. There is a photo frame on the table. He holds a book in his hand and slowly turns to a new page, then writes a few words on the book next to him.

"Why... did you imprison the captain in such a deep place? What crime did he commit?!"

"Child, not all those who live in prison are guilty; and not all those who enter prison are imprisoned." The old man closed the book and slowly stood up with the help of the table. "I was imprisoned in here voluntarily."

He turned his head, revealing half of his gentle and thin face, but the other half was covered with corpse spots, with fine black and green ghost fire flowing between the spots, his eyeballs were peeling off, and white maggots were crawling.

"If I want to go out, I can always go out...but you can see me like this."

"Ah! What are you doing..." Tian Taozi was shocked, screamed, and quickly covered her mouth.

"Corruption and madness—the price every layman must pay, isn't it? That's why I've locked myself up here." The old man spoke calmly, a wise and humorous smile even showing on his half-normal face. "Because a mad monster can't press those delicate little buttons."

The old man said, looking at Lao Qiao and said: "Son, you have worked hard." The old leader waved his hand casually, as if he were talking to his own elders.

Old Joe pounded his chest hard, his eyes red: "Everything is for the truth!"

"The truth... yes, the truth." The old man nodded, and then, as if he had thought of something, he said to the crowd, "Sit down, why are you standing? Oh... there aren't enough seats in this room, I understand."

He nodded, raised his hand and snapped his fingers. A cold wind blew through the room, and the earth and rocks on the ground surged.

As everyone watched in astonishment, a pile of bones tumbled from the depths of the earth. These bones twisted and turned into four chairs. The old man sat down on one at random and waved his hand slowly, "Sit down. Chatting is the way to sit down and chat."

"Captain, you shouldn't continue to use vulgar techniques!" Seeing the old captain using vulgar techniques, Lao Qiao's tone was a little excited.

"I understand, I understand... The more I use mundane magic, the closer I get to going crazy..." The old leader waved his hand, his tone gradually lowering, "But I... was already crazy before I awakened, hehe..."

He smiled at Lin Wang and said, "Young northerner, I have long heard of your great name. You are a powerful man who defeated a false god with the strength of a mortal."

"You're too kind. The Public Security Bureau played an indispensable role in making that thing happen, and it was full of coincidences. It wasn't just my effort." Lin Wang's tone was calm and gentle. He was always very patient with the elders.

"Humility, humility is useless in the face of danger, but humility is still a good virtue." The old man muttered, and as he spoke, maggots crawled on his half-rotten face.

"Is there something you want us to do?" Lin Wang asked.

"Being busy every day and having to find something to do is a terrible life for young people." The old man muttered and turned to look at Lin Wang.

As the old man turned his head, his drooping eyeball twitched a few times before turning to Lin Wang: "I'm past the age where I have to find a 'purpose' for everything I do."

He grinned, half of his face was gentle, and the other half was rotten and wriggling with maggots. His eyes slowly moved from Tian Taozi's face to Lin Wang's face: "Kid, just treat it as a damn old thing who wants to satisfy his curiosity."

The old man looked at the two for a while, then waved his hand: "Okay, I've seen it all, you can go... Young people shouldn't waste their time on old guys."

The three of them said nothing and stood up to say goodbye.

Before leaving, Lin Wang waved his hand and dispersed one of the bone chairs, turning it into ash powder and shrinking back to the ground.

"Wait." The old man suddenly spoke.

The three of them turned around, and the old man looked at Lin Wang, staring deeply at him for a few seconds: "Northern boy, are you... awake?"

Lin Wang thought he was asking about the power of a layman, so he nodded: "Yes, I just awakened, the burial system." "You just awakened... where are your corpse spots?"

"Corpse spots?" Lin Wang was puzzled.

"Ordinary-level corpse spots, strong-level rotten soil... young people nowadays only know how to use force roughly. They have a completely messed up understanding of the various levels of ordinary masters and the rules of promotion!"

The old man lowered his head and waved his hands angrily, but calmed down the next second: "Never mind, I'm just an old man who has gone crazy. You can learn this knowledge slowly on your own...Tangsheng City is so big, there must be a few smart guys."

He looked up at Lin Wang again and said, "A little fellow of the Burial Department... Very good, the Burial Department is very good."

"Little guy, since you are a burial expert, then I have something to ask you... Never mind, forget it." He took a few slow steps, circled around Lin Wang, and shook his head vigorously after a few seconds, "This matter has nothing to do with you."

Suddenly, the old man turned his head and looked to his right. A vicious and cruel look appeared on his half-rotten and hideous face: "Mou Duanzhu! You pedantic old man! This guy is from the Burial Department! He is most likely to find that place!"

Then, he quickly turned his head and looked to the left. The half of his normal face was full of entanglement and reluctance. "But this child has nothing to do with that incident! How can I bear to let such a good child take such a risk?"

"Idiot! Absolute idiot! You've already spent forty years searching for that place!"

"Then I can't let others die for me!"

"You hypocritical idiot! Didn't you always say that you found that place to save the Candle Clan... No, to save everyone in the three clans?"

"Enough!" the half-normal face suddenly shouted, "I am in charge of my own affairs! I am in charge of my own body!"

With his half-rotten face, he looked fiercely to the right. After a few seconds, he said in a low voice, "...Humph, you should know that soon, it will be my turn to make the decision."

"Maybe, but not now."

"You better pray that day comes when you happen to lock yourself in that stupid box."

The rotten face said this viciously, then twisted a few times, and the expressions on both sides of the face returned to the same frequency.

The crazy and weird atmosphere in the room suddenly relaxed.

"Captain, are you okay?" Lao Qiao took a few steps forward and wanted to support the old man, but the old man raised his hand to stop him.

"Don't help me, I'm a soldier, and soldiers can't be helped by others."

After the old man finished speaking, he smiled at Lin Wang and Tian Taozi and said, "I'm sorry to make you laugh... When people get older, they always do embarrassing things."

After he finished speaking, he turned around and walked slowly towards the shadow cage. As he walked, his body slowly hunched over.

"Captain Mou." Lin Wang suddenly remembered his experience of solving the problem of death in the dream world.

He had some vague guesses.

The old man turned his head, and Lin Wang said to him: "Old man, I may have a way to cure you."

"Brother Lin, what are you talking about?" Old Qiao glared at him, frowning in dissatisfaction. "Even though you and I are friends, you're joking with the captain like this? It's not funny at all!"

"Secular teachers have existed since ancient times! But going insane is irreversible!" Old Qiao frowned, his expression serious and earnest, as if he were reciting a text. "You can't joke with the commander like this when he's...!"

"I'm not sure, but I'm not joking." Lin Wang looked at the old man.

An old man pursuing the truth...

I'm willing to help you.

The rest depends on your choice.

"Northern boy, are you saying that you have a method that might be able to cure me?"

"Yes, perhaps."

"The probability is very low?"

"Not high." In fact, the probability is not low, but Lin Wang knows that if he says it is high, no one will believe it.

It's like a person who is ill. If the person opposite him frowns and says, "I'll do my best," the patient will feel that this person has done their duty. But if the person opposite him pats his chest and says he will change his career, the patient will feel uneasy.

"Not that high... I understand." The old man muttered to himself, nodded, and showed Lin Wang a kind and gentle smile, "Thank you, little boy from the North."

"Then when are you going to..." Lin Wang thought he agreed to the treatment.

"I refuse." The old man smiled.

"Okay, then I'll make some preparations...ah?" Lin Wang was stunned. "You refuse?"

"To be precise, it is currently rejected."

The leader of the Light Chasing Army, Mou Duanzhu, smiled and shook his head, pointing to his half-rotten face. "I'm happy to have this opportunity. But since it carries risks... it means I might die."

He turned his head and pointed at the notebook on the table: "I have something to finish, so I can't die for the time being."

I wish all my readers a happy New Year’s Eve.
