Chapter 30 Discovering the Secrets of Trees

Chapter 30 Discovering the Secrets of Trees

Moon finally suggested that Hagrid replace the salted fish with milk and candy.

This delicacy, which consists of milk, tea, sugar, chopped dried fruits and soaked naan, dominates the table at the Xilin Harvest Festival.

The latest "Haig Crispy Cake" simply replaces naan with rock crust cake.

After just one bite, Hagrid fell in love with the taste.

“This is too delicious!”

Hagrid admired the delicious food in his hand and turned to look at Moon.

"Snape, of course it's him. Even Dumbledore trusts him very much."

Moon shared his experience of receiving a potion reward while enjoying the final version of 'Hagrid's Shortbread'.

To his surprise, Hagrid also praised Snape.

"Well, tell me about your saplings. I think they've changed a lot now!"

"When I came, they were still growing wildly. The tallest one was over five feet tall. Snap~"

Moon took a bite of the dried fruit mixed with milk flavor, and a crunching sound came from his mouth.

"Five feet a day, two days of growth... so adulthood is just a matter of tomorrow or the day after tomorrow."

Hagrid put down his large spoon, cracked the fingers of his left hand and thought for a long time, then leaned slightly closer to Moon.

"Gurgle~, I think I need to tell you a secret." After swallowing the food in his mouth, Hagrid's expression became serious.

"Olivander always comes to the Forbidden Forest to collect wood at night."

After enjoying a large afternoon tea, Moon and Bengbeng left the cabin. On the way back, they detoured to the outside of the greenhouse to see how the saplings were growing.

The holly tree is clearly a contender with great potential. It is now larger than the first two and is a full six feet tall.

"Haw?"

"Yes, we have to come here to guard at night."

After Hagrid explained that Ollivander would gather wand-making wood at night, Moon decided to follow suit.

This family has over 2,000 years of experience in wand making, so they must have their reasons for choosing to work at night.

It just so happened that today was Friday, and the control in the castle would not be as strict as usual in the next few days. Filch also needed to enjoy his weekend, so Moon planned to sneak out at night.

Fortunately, Moon had experience living alone, so at night while everyone was playing in the common room, he packed up all his belongings and went to the greenhouse.

When he just walked to the door of the greenhouse, he found that the door of the greenhouse where first graders were usually taught was not locked.

"Did Professor Sprout forget?"

Moon pushed open the door and walked into the greenhouse. All the plants here had been cleared out, and in the middle of the greenhouse there was a small burning stove.

"唧~"

Bengbeng jumped out of Moon's pocket and jumped onto the edge of the stove to enjoy the warmth.

Looking at the stove, which was the last thing that should have appeared in the greenhouse, Moon smiled and sat down beside it, but his eyes were always fixed on the three saplings outside.

On Saturday morning, Moon had just fallen asleep in his chair.

Cedric suddenly came at this time and pushed Moon gently.

"Wake up, go back to sleep, I'll guard this place during the day."

After watching the saplings all night, Moon's head was now dizzy. He mumbled his thanks to Cedric, stuffed the toy back into his pocket, and walked towards the dormitory in a daze.

After seeing Moon leave, Cedric took the almost extinguished stove outside.

On Saturday afternoon, three drops of potion were dripped onto the three saplings that had grown into mature trees, and then Moon waited all night.

The same thing happened on Sunday afternoon, when the tallest holly trees were over twenty feet tall and the grape vines covered an entire wall of the greenhouse glass.

As for the willow tree, the most vigorous, its canopy had expanded to five or six meters, and small birds had begun to build nests there. Moon had found in the library that plants reveal their magical properties when they reach adulthood.

Now that all three plants have grown up, tonight is the time he needs to observe them carefully.

Worried about missing out on the miraculous changes in the three plants, Moon went to the Forbidden Forest in the afternoon to invite a Bowtruckle to protect the trees.

This magical green animal was slightly stunned when it saw the three big trees.

The Bowtruckle could sense that the scent of the three large trees was exactly the same as the one its family was guarding, but it was somewhat surprised that the saplings had grown so big and had not yet been discovered by its own kind.

The Bowtruckle jumped from Moon's arms onto the willow tree, chose a comfortable place, and then lay there motionless.

"It's amazing, isn't it?"

As if he had received instructions, Cedric came when Moon returned to the greenhouse.

"Yes."

Moon had seen the abilities of the Bowtruckle before, and now that this little animal was willing to stay on the willow tree, it meant that the tree was likely to awaken its magical properties.

"Actually, after I graduate, I want to work in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures at the Ministry of Magic. My father works there, and when I was little, he would tell me a lot about magical creatures every day."

As Moon and Cedric chatted, night slowly fell and a bright moon like a silver disk slowly climbed to the center of the sky.

Not sure if it was an illusion, but Moon discovered that the willow branches, which had been still, began to sway without wind when the moon reached its highest point.

At the same time, the Bowtruckle also let out a long cry.

"呲~~~"

Amidst the somewhat harsh cry, the willow branches swayed even more vigorously, and even the flying willow branches threw out green fluorescent spots from time to time.

"呲~~~"

The Bowtruckle's voice grew louder.

When it finished its third call, the fluorescent light that had been floating outwards began to slowly return to the willow tree, and then gathered where it was crawling.

Seeing this magical scene, Moon and Cedric hurried over.

The fluorescent light slowly seeped into the bark after approaching the willow tree, and then disappeared without a trace.

"Where did they go?" Cedric asked.

Moon had already taken out a mudra and a knife and reached for the tree trunk.

Perhaps because he was too focused just now, the Bowtruckle subconsciously wanted to attack when he saw Moon's outstretched hand.

However, after seeing that it was food, it immediately retracted its sharp front claws and lightly jumped into Moon's hand to enjoy the delicious food.

The knife had already lightly scratched the willow tree, and a layer of green light film appeared under the originally hard bark.

Both pairs of eyes looked towards the gap, and Moon found that the light film was still slowly seeping down until it finally completely penetrated into the tree trunk.

"They're all hidden, what should I do?"

After the fluorescence penetrated into the trunk, the entire willow tree no longer had any special features and looked exactly like an ordinary willow tree.

"It's okay, I found them."

Moon smiled as he peeled off a layer of bark, scraped off a bit of trunk tissue with a knife, and then looked into the moonlight.

The fluorescent light that had disappeared suddenly showed its original shape under the moonlight, but now it had merged with the trees.

"So that's how it is. Bowtruckle left these magical powers in the tree, so that's why the wood can be made into magic wands."

Moon agreed with Cedric very much. After tonight's experience, he finally knew how to find the magical trees that could be used to make magic wands.

But the changes tonight did not stop there. The Bowtruckle, which had just eaten two turtles, had jumped from Moon to the vines.
