Durin's Diary

Chapter 41 The Western Express Robbery

Chapter 41 The Western Express Robbery Ⅳ
"Looking for someone? Or traveling?" The old man keenly caught the content of Du Lin's words.

"Studying at the First Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. To be honest, I've seen human movies in Lublin, and I think this new form of artistic expression can definitely be used by the grassland elves, even though the most common scenes in the movies I've seen are of you humans making out." Du Lin had a humorous side when he said these words.

This was indeed the case, and these words made the two young police officers look embarrassed.

Mr. Royce, on the other hand, smiled nonchalantly, "Mr. Du Lin, you didn't go to the art academy for this kind of rubbish, did you?"

This made Du Lin laugh: "Of course, I think film can be a very elegant form of art, but people nowadays have misunderstood its purpose."

This caused the female police officer who was writing the report to raise her eyebrows: "Mr. Du Lin seems to have a different view on movies."

"Lillian, please don't talk about anything unrelated to the case." Mr. Royce stood up and said, "Excuse me, Mr. Du Lin, my subordinates are a bit too noisy."

"Nothing. I just think that film, as a new art form, doesn't exist just to show off actresses' thighs. This world is filled with so much beauty and regret, and movies can turn these into stories on the screen, allowing them to move everyone." After saying this, Du Lin also stood up. "What happened today may one day become a popular movie."

"Like Murder on the Orient Express?" the young male police officer suddenly asked.

Then he was patted on the head by the old sheriff.

After seeing the three police officers off, Du Lin returned to the window and opened it to take a look.

It was very busy outside, some people were extracting wheel tracks, some were searching for possible lost objects, and some were patrolling.

Du Lin looked for a while and decided to change his clothes and go to the dining car to eat. He hadn't eaten a single bite of food since last night and was starving.

………………

As they left the first-class carriage, Royce turned and rolled his eyes at his young subordinate. "If you act so impulsively again, I'll have to ask your father to pick you up, Miss Lillian."

"I'm sorry, Mr. Royce, but I'm really curious how a prairie elf kid who doesn't understand what garbage movies are can say such sensible things, but I really don't believe he can change the impression of movies in my mind." said the female police officer.

"Are movies really that bad in your opinion?" the young male police officer asked with a smile.

"Much worse than you, Mikoyan," the female police officer replied with a sneer.

Listening to the meaningless conversation between his two subordinates behind him, Royce had no intention of refuting anything. He left the first-class carriage with two subordinates who were capable of performing on the ventriloquist stage.

A burly middle-aged man not far away saw him and immediately waved to him: "Royce, my old friend, have you found anything?"

"No, I checked the first-class carriages. The poor people there had all been robbed. The robbers used shotguns and revolvers, and low-level transcendents had no chance of resisting." Royce walked up to his old friend. "But I have another question about Doolin Elsh."

"Ah, what happened to him? I just received a message from headquarters saying that the Corleone family sent a telegram directly to the chief. They want to know what happened to their heir's child." The large man, also a chief inspector, was a little confused. "And there's also a telegram from the Elsh family. The Duke lashed out at our chief, saying that if we don't catch the criminal, he'll bring his team here to avenge his grandson... He's not hurt, is he?"

"He's not injured, maybe a little frightened. But you know, grassland elves are usually very brave. He looks okay, but now that you mention it, I think the one from the Elsh family is not a suspect." Royce smiled and put aside the little doubt he had about Durin.

It is true that this child is too calm, but he is the child of a noble family. How could he possibly mix with these robbers?

"Is he a suspect?"

"Yes, very calm, too calm to be a thirteen-year-old," Royce replied. At this point in the conversation, the large man exclaimed, "But he's a grassland elf, and the grandson of Duke Elsh. This lord really hates those so-called chivalrous thieves."

"He hates us humans even more. He thinks we're all the same bad guy who stole his daughter. He's blaming us for the Corleone bastard's evil deeds, and now he's scolding our director like a bastard." Royce had his own opinion on this. He handed the report to the big man. "I've asked the passengers from first to fourth class. First and second class were all robbed by robbers, while third and fourth class were not. Some children were even given candy."

The big guy flipped through it and was about to say something when Royce saw a car coming and immediately patted his arm: "Our chief inspector is here very quickly."

"That's right! A whole carriage of gold is missing. Our Emperor must be scolding the director right now. How many people must have scolded him all day?"

The conversation between the two detectives reached this point when they saw the black car stop.

Royce walked forward, leaned over and opened the car door: "Good afternoon, Inspector."

A dwarf walked out of the open car door. She looked at Royce and the big guy and asked, "Did you find anything?"

"We didn't find much, but judging from the information in the first-class carriage and what the security guards said, the blond human, the halfling, the dwarf, an orc and two other accomplices, they should be the famous Gaoqiu Thieves Group. This time they have committed a big crime." The big guy continued.

"These damn guys are getting bolder and bolder. They even dare to rob His Majesty's gold ingots. Have you found a carriage to transport the goods?" The dwarf lady stood in front of two subordinates who were physically superior to her. Her expression was expressionless.

But her subordinates all knew that this was the chief inspector on the verge of losing control.

"The second team is chasing along the tire tracks, but nearly five hours have passed since the incident and when we received the alarm and arrived at the scene. I feel there is little hope." The big man in charge of the investigation outside the car kept wiping his forehead.

"What about you, Royce, have you found anything?" The chief inspector looked at her subordinates with a gloomy face.

Royce nodded. "There's a suspicious situation in the first-class carriage. There's a kid named Dulin. He's so calm."

"Doolin Elsh, you said there was something wrong with him, just because he was too calm?" The Chief Inspector smiled.

His boss was on the verge of losing control. Royce gritted his teeth and nodded, "Yes, ma'am, because he is really too calm. He was robbed of 510 gold pounds, but he doesn't seem to feel any pain at all. This is unreasonable."

"Is that what you think? Then I must admit that your suspicions are justified." The smile on the female dwarf whom Royce addressed as Madam vanished, and she sighed. "Indeed, five hundred gold pounds is something many nobles wouldn't be able to shell out right away. But as a sorcerer, our Mr. Durin has received dividends from several high-quality projects within the Craftsmen's Guild. His grandfather was the Duke of Lublin, the Eastern Elf Territory, who held the final say. And Durin is the only male descendant of his seven daughters with the surname Elsh. Five hundred gold pounds is merely pocket money the old duke gives his grandson, and his grandson can earn more than a thousand five hundred gold pounds through his own inventions. He has plenty of money. It's impossible for a master gunsmith to stoop to colluding with bandits."

After saying this, the two inspectors' supervisor waved his hand and said, "You guys go ahead and do your work. I'll go see this child and see if there's really anything wrong with him. But I don't think a grassland elf would go along with criminals, even if he has a human father."

Relieved, Royce and his colleagues watched the young lady get on the carriage.

The big guy turned to look at Royce. "Please, my old friend, your sixth sense will eventually rust. How could such a young man be involved in such a head-loosening robbery?"

"...Okay, my bad." Although he hated to admit it, sometimes one had to learn to compromise with oneself. Royce nodded, putting the young prairie elf's suspicious behavior behind him and accepting the tobacco offered by his old friend.

"Well, when we get back, I'll treat you to a good meal at the best barbecue restaurant, the one owned by the werewolf."

The big guy's invitation made Royce feel much better. He stretched out his hand and high-fived his old friend.

It was a deal.
