Durin's Diary

Chapter 603 A Moment in Winter

Chapter 603 A Moment in Winter

Link, Link Bogdan.

Royce's younger brother is now also an independent agent of the Department of Homeland Security. Today he followed his boss to Nice to protect the willful crown prince.

What a troublesome thing.

Three years after leaving old Reus's wing, he now has a beard and scans the street.

The news came from the superiors that within twenty minutes, their prince would be at the Place de la Citizen in the center of Nice, just one block away.

What a willful middle-aged man.

He lit a cigarette for himself and walked down the street with the two newlyweds. Just as they turned the corner, they saw a horse-drawn carriage that had lost control and scraped the sidewalk on the side of the road, then overturned on the sidewalk. The wood on the carriage blocked that section of the sidewalk.

"Want to go help, boss?" asked the red-haired newcomer.

"Is your waist as thick as those tall-hoofed creatures' arms?" Link asked. "These logs are obviously century-old, high-quality building materials. They're so long and thick, those tall-hoofed creatures can't even move them fast enough in pairs. Would you and I just be causing more trouble?"

Anyway, there was still some time before the meeting point, so Link simply watched the excitement for a while. The fact was just as he expected. The wood was very heavy, and the four tall-hoofed workers were panting while moving it. The man who looked like a foreman faced a guy who was walking over.

The slightly hunched middle-aged man, who had just kicked a beggar who approached him, now stood at the entrance of the alley and complained, "Your wood has blocked the alley. How can I get back?"

"Either you squeeze through or I throw you over." The tall-hoofed foreman roared unhappily.

The middle-aged man's tone immediately softened: "What's your attitude? Can't I even complain?"

Another blond young man behind Link laughed. "What a bully! How disgusting!"

"Yeah, kick it if you can." Another young man laughed dissatisfiedly.

Link sighed deeply - this world is so ridiculous. Old Royce always told himself that whether we join the Sulem Forest Farm or the Department of Homeland Security, we must contribute to this world.

But old Royce, do you see, is such a world really worth saving?

Young Link had suspected it more than once, but over the years, he had never heard of any fault by old Royce. Whether in the forest farm or in the Security Bureau, everyone mentioned him and said that he was a lucky old dog, the invincible Royce who the bullets would avoid.

Old Royce, what you want to save is not the earth full of guys like this, but the earth of innocent people. People like this are just gifts that can be found everywhere on the earth.

"Get lost! Here's your drink money!" The tall-hoofed foreman cursed, then pulled out a dozen silver and copper coins from his pocket and stuffed them into the middle-aged man's arms. "Go drink your drink over there! The sun's still at the zenith, why are you going home?"

With the money for the wine, the middle-aged man put aside his previous gloom and ran to the tavern across the road with a smile.

This made the two young men behind Link laugh.

You see, this is the lovely thing about the Werebeasts. He doesn't know that the money just given to him is enough for this drunkard to drink himself to death in the tavern.

Link sighed at this point and glanced at the time on his pocket watch, "Alright, let's go. It's getting late. If the boss gets to the location and finds us not in place, we're screwed."

After saying that, the trio walked along the road laughing.

"There's someone on top of that clock tower." The red-haired young man exclaimed as if he had discovered something.

"What's wrong with someone on the clock tower? It's almost twelve o'clock. It must be undergoing maintenance." The blond young man said dismissively: "The clock tower in my hometown is old and always breaks down. Once it didn't ring at noon, and the mayor was furious." Link listened to the conversation between the two young men and didn't take it to heart.

There are people on the bell tower, so they must be doing maintenance. I didn't expect a big city like Nice to have such a problem, but that's fine. Big cities have more than one bell tower, so even if one breaks down, there are others to replace it. Although the sound can't travel far, you can still hear it.

With this in mind, Link walked past the tavern and happened to hear the commotion coming from inside.

"Old Robin, why are you here in the middle of the day? Where is your clock tower?"

This sentence made Link stop. He turned his head to look at the store and saw the boss pouring wine for the middle-aged man, and also saw the former who was arranging the coins on the counter.

"Well, I made a fortune today. The clock tower is running normally anyway. One more person won't make much difference, and one less person won't make much difference either."

Link was still confused.

The arcane communicator in his hand rang.

He took out the communicator from the buckle on his waist, and there was a line of words on the screen.

Come quickly, the road is clear today, our prince is driving the express car himself.

People have arrived.

There are people on the bell tower.

The only thing Link could think of was that from the position of the clock tower, it seemed that he could have a clear view of the entire square.

At this time, His Excellency the Crown Prince should be getting out of the car in high spirits. Today is the weekend, and he will be giving a speech to the citizens who are having lunch in the square.

There is no cover around.

No cover!

As Link suddenly realized the truth, a loud noise was heard from the clock tower, and the two young men who were originally confused by Link's distraction were also frightened.

"Is that a gunshot?" The blond young man was unsure.

"That's the sound of cannons." The red-haired young man looked at Link.

Link mechanically raised his head and looked towards the clock tower, where a rope was lowered. First, a figure appeared and descended along the rope.

"It's an assassin! Shoot!" The first person has landed, the second person has also slid down, and only the third person is still preparing.

Link growled, pulling out his gun and firing at the man.

The two confused young men followed the orders of their superior. They didn't know what was happening, but their training required them to pull out their revolvers and shoot at the man on the bell tower.

The figure let go of his hand halfway through sliding and fell from mid-air.

"Hurry! Let's go!" Link ran to the other side of the street. Amid the shouts of drivers who suddenly stopped their cars, they ran across the street.

When the gunshots were heard, the beastman workers and foremen immediately ran away, and the remaining wood blocked the alley tightly.

Fortunately, Link jumped onto the overturned carriage and prepared to run to the top of the clock tower. When he leaped into the air, the dust raised by the explosion completely blocked Link's vision, and the shock wave knocked him to the other side of the street in the next second.
