Chapter 187 Tracking the Mercedes-Benz

Lin nodded, knowing Hans's judgment made sense. But this also meant they might face those elusive mutants again. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions. "We must quickly find evidence proving it was mutants who did this. At the same time, we must increase patrols to prevent similar incidents from happening again."

Hans nodded in agreement, and the two began to work together, carefully searching every corner of the villa. However, despite searching the entire villa, they did not find any valuable clues. This made Lin En very frustrated. He knew that without solid evidence, it would be difficult for them to bring the murderer to justice.

As night fell, under the dim streetlights, Lynn and Hans, dressed in dark casual clothes, quietly approached the luxurious villa in the suburbs. Their steps were light and firm, and their eyes revealed the sharpness and courage unique to detectives.

"Lynn, are you sure there will be clues here?" Hans asked in a low voice, his fingers gently stroking the detective equipment on his waist, which had been his right-hand man in handling cases for many years.

Lin En didn't answer immediately. Instead, he looked up at the villa's towering walls and tightly closed gate, a hint of determination flashing in his eyes. "The security system here is so tight. If there wasn't a traitor, how could those jewels disappear without a trace?"

Hans nodded. He knew that Lynn's reasoning was always accurate, which was the key to their partnership over the years and their ability to solve numerous strange cases.

The two of them walked around the main gate and arrived at a grove of trees on the side of the villa. Lin En pulled out a small device and carefully scanned the surrounding wireless signals. "It seems their security system does have a loophole." Lin En smiled. The device in his hand beeped faintly, indicating an unknown entrance.

Hans followed Lin En through the woods and came to a hidden side door. Lin En easily pried open the door lock, and the two quickly entered the villa.

The villa's interior was luxuriously decorated, yet exuded a sense of desolation. Lin En and Hans had a clear division of labor: one checked the surveillance system while the other began searching for possible clues.

"Hans, look here!" Lynn suddenly called out softly. He stood by a window and pointed at a tiny scratch on the window frame.

Hans quickly moved closer and saw that there was indeed a barely perceptible fingerprint where Linn had pointed. "This is..." Hans' eyes flashed with surprise.

"Yes, this is the fingerprint of habitual criminal Roger." Lynn said affirmatively. He took out a small fingerprint comparator from his pocket and compared the fingerprint on the window frame with the pre-stored data.

Roger, this name held great weight in the hearts of both men. He was a thief of extraordinary cunning, who had escaped the police's grasp many times, always leaving behind very few clues.

"Why is he here?" Hans asked with a frown.

"This just proves that we're on the right track." Lin En's eyes flashed with excitement. "Roger wouldn't appear here for no reason. He must be related to this jewelry theft."

Hans nodded and began to carefully examine the traces around the window, trying to find the path Roger entered and left. Lynn took out his cell phone and began to contact the police for support.

At this moment, there was a sudden sound of hurried footsteps outside the villa. The two looked at each other and immediately realized that it might be Roger who came back.

"Hurry, we have to find a place to hide." Lynn whispered. He quickly glanced around the surroundings and pointed to a hidden closet. "There!"

The two quickly hid in the closet and closed the door tightly. Through the gap in the closet, they could see what was happening outside.

A moment later, the villa's door was roughly pushed open, and a figure hurried in. The man was tall, wearing a black windbreaker, with the brim of his hat pulled low, so his face couldn't be seen clearly. But from the familiar figure and movements, Lin En and Hans recognized it as Roger.

Roger seemed panicked, and he kept looking back, as if to check if he was being followed. Then he walked straight to the window with the fingerprint and began to try to open it.

"He wants to escape!" whispered Hans.

Lin En didn't say anything. He stared closely at Roger's movements. After Roger tried a few times, he seemed to find that the window was locked, and he began to look around anxiously.

At this moment, Lynn suddenly pushed open the closet door and rushed out. "Roger, don't move!" he shouted.

Roger was startled by the sudden sound. He turned around and looked at Lin En. At that moment, a trace of panic flashed in his eyes, but he quickly calmed it down.

"Who are you? Why are you here?" Roger asked calmly.

"We're detectives investigating a jewel theft case," Lynn said coldly, "and you, Roger, are our prime suspect."

Roger's face changed slightly when he heard this, but he still tried to remain calm. "Do you have any evidence?" he asked provocatively.

"The fingerprints on the window frame are evidence." Hans came out of the closet, holding a fingerprint comparison device in his hand. "Your fingerprints are exactly the same as those left at the scene."

Roger looked at the fingerprints on the window frame, and a trace of panic flashed in his eyes. He knew that he was really in trouble this time.

However, Roger wasn't the type to give up easily. He took a deep breath and suddenly rushed towards Lynn and Hans. "Since you want to catch me, then come on!" He roared, trying to break through the encirclement of the two.

Lin En and Hans were well prepared. They reacted quickly and attacked Roger from both sides. After a fierce struggle, Roger was finally subdued by the two men.

"Do you think you can catch me like this?" Roger said while lying on the ground, gasping for breath. "Let me tell you, you are still too young."

"Youth doesn't mean ignorance." Lin En looked at Roger coldly, "We already know your criminal methods very well. Now, wait for the punishment of the law."

After saying that, Lin En took out his phone and called the police. Soon after, police lights flashed and sirens blared as Roger was taken away. Lin En and Hans stood in front of the villa, watching the police car drive away, smiles of triumph on their faces.

Inside the interrogation room, the lights were dim and solemn. Lynn sat at a metal table, his eyes sharp as a knife as he stared across at Roger. Roger was handcuffed to a chair, his face pale, but a stubborn glint gleamed in his eyes.

"Roger, you are now facing charges of murder and theft." Lynn's voice was calm and firm. "We have enough evidence to convict you."

Roger heard this and a mocking smile appeared on his face. "Conviction? Evidence? What you call evidence is those fingerprints and surveillance footage?" He shook his head. "That only proves I stole something, but it doesn't prove I killed anyone."

Lin En frowned slightly and took out a report. "We found your DNA at the scene. How do you explain it?"

The smile on Roger's face disappeared. He stared at the report with wide eyes, as if he couldn't believe his eyes. "This is impossible!" he roared. "When I got there, the three of them were already dead! I just stole some things, I didn't kill anyone!"

"Then why were you there? Why did you choose that time?" Lin En pressed on.

Roger was silent for a moment, as if trying to gather his thoughts. "I... I received an anonymous text message telling me there were valuables to steal. When I got there, the house was empty, with only the jewelry still there." He looked up at Lin En. "I really didn't kill anyone. You have to believe me."

Lin En didn't say anything. He looked at Roger deeply, then stood up. "I'll get to the bottom of it," he said. "If what you said is true, I'll find evidence to prove your innocence. But if you're lying..."

Roger interrupted Lynn: "I'm not lying! Everything I said is true!" His voice was firm and eager.

Lin En nodded and turned to leave the interrogation room. He knew that this case was far more complicated than he had imagined. Although Roger's confession was somewhat sincere, it still needed further verification.

A few days later, Lin En came to the interrogation room again, this time with a new report and a surveillance video.

"Roger, we investigated the anonymous text message you mentioned," Lin En handed Roger the report. "The phone that sent the text message was a disposable one, thrown away after use, so the sender can't be traced." Roger looked at the report, a hint of disappointment on his face. He had thought this clue would clear his suspicion, but now it seemed that hope was dashed.

However, Lin En's next words rekindled his hope. "But, we found this." Lin En played the surveillance video.

In the video, a blurry figure entered the house before the incident. Although the face was unclear, judging by the figure and movements, it was not Roger.

"Who is this person?" Roger asked in surprise.

"We're still investigating," Lynn said. "But this video at least proves that you weren't the only one who entered the scene. Perhaps he's the real murderer."

Roger breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a heavy burden lift from his shoulders. "Thank you," he said sincerely. "I know I've done many wrong things before, but this time I really didn't kill anyone. I hope you can find the real murderer as soon as possible."

Lin En nodded. "We'll do our best," he said. "But you can't completely get rid of suspicion. You need to stay here until you find solid evidence."

Roger didn't say anything, but nodded silently. He knew that his past crimes made it difficult for the police to fully trust him. However, he also believed that as long as Lin En and the others could find the real murderer, he would be free again.

In the following days, Lynn and his colleagues conducted an in-depth investigation, tracking the whereabouts of the shadowy figure, checking people who had contact with the victim's family, and even getting a detailed understanding of Roger's past.

However, the investigation is not going smoothly. The shadowy figure seems to be a master, whose whereabouts are mysterious and elusive. The interpersonal relationships of the victim's family are also complicated, and anyone could be the murderer.

Just when Lin En was feeling overwhelmed, an unexpected clue led them to a breakthrough. It turned out that one of Roger's former accomplices had contact with the victim's family before the crime and had been holding a grudge against them because of a grudge many years ago.

After further investigation and interrogation, the accomplice finally admitted to being the murderer and gave a detailed account of the crime. It turned out that he had exploited Roger's greed for jewelry and deliberately sent anonymous text messages to lure Roger into the trap, and then took the opportunity to kill him to silence him.

After the truth was revealed, Roger was acquitted. When he walked out of the interrogation room, he saw Lynn waiting outside.

"Thank you." Roger said sincerely, "If it weren't for you, I might never be able to clear myself of suspicion."

Lin En shook his head. "I just did what I should do." He said, "I hope you can turn over a new leaf and become a new person in the future."

Roger didn't say anything. He looked at Lynn deeply, then turned and left.

Under the night sky, the city's neon lights flickered, and the streets were bustling with traffic. Lynn and Hans stood at a busy intersection, their gaze fixed firmly on the vehicles passing by. They were investigating a bizarre case, and the roadside surveillance footage from the day of the crime had become a crucial clue in their hands.

"Hans, look! Doesn't that white Mercedes-Benz look very similar to the car that appeared in the surveillance video?" Lin En suddenly pointed at a speeding car on the screen.

Hans quickly moved closer, compared carefully, and nodded, "Yes, it's this car! The license plate number matches too. We have to follow it!"

The two immediately started their cars, merged into the traffic, and followed the white Mercedes-Benz closely. The Mercedes-Benz seemed unaware that it was being followed and sped through several blocks before finally stopping outside a drive-in bar.

Lynn and Hans parked the car at a distance and watched the Mercedes-Benz's movements. The car door opened and a man in a black suit got out. He looked around and then walked into the pub.

"It seems we've found the right place." Lin En whispered, "This man is very likely the key person we're looking for."

Hans nodded. "We have to be careful and not alert the enemy. I'll go to the tavern to check out the situation first. You continue to monitor from here."

After saying that, Hans got out of the car and walked into the pub as if nothing had happened. Lin En stayed in the car and continued to observe the Mercedes-Benz and the surrounding situation.

Not long after, Hans walked out of the tavern, his face somewhat serious. "Lin, the situation is a bit complicated. The man was having a secret conversation with a group of people in the tavern. I vaguely heard them mention words like 'trade' and 'goods'."

Lin En frowned. "It seems we have uncovered a major case. However, now we have to find a way to get closer to that man and get more information."

Hans nodded. "I have a plan, but it requires us to work together in harmony."

The two of them had a quick discussion and then began to act. Lynn stayed in the car to continue monitoring, while Hans changed his clothes and walked into the pub again.

This time, Hans walked straight to the table where the man was sitting. He pretended to be a casual passerby and sat down in the empty seat next to the man. The man looked at him warily but said nothing.

Hans deliberately struck up a conversation with the other people at the table, trying to get the man's attention. Sure enough, the man soon started chatting with him. Hans took the opportunity to ask the man about the "transaction" and "goods." Although the man was a little wary, he still revealed some information.

At this moment, Lin En suddenly sent a message: The Mercedes-Benz started and seemed to be preparing to leave! Hans was startled. He quickly made an excuse to leave the table and walked out of the pub to meet Lin En.

"Hurry! We have to catch up with that car!" Lynn said anxiously.

The two quickly got in their car, started the engine, and followed the Mercedes-Benz closely. The Mercedes-Benz seemed to sense something and began to speed up, trying to shake off its pursuers. But Lynn and Hans were both experienced detectives, and they chased after it without fear.

A thrilling chase unfolds under the cover of night. The Mercedes-Benz constantly changes lanes, runs red lights, and even drives against the flow in an attempt to escape pursuit. But Lynn and Hans keep chasing them, their driving skills and reaction times at peak performance.

Finally, at a secluded street corner, the Mercedes was forced to stop. The door opened, and the man in the black suit hurriedly got out and tried to escape. But Lynn and Hans had already quickly gotten out and stopped him.

"Who are you? Why are you chasing me?" the man asked in horror.

"We are police officers," Lin En showed his ID. "You are suspected of involvement in a major case, and we need your cooperation in the investigation."

The man's face turned pale and he tried to resist, but was quickly subdued by Lynn and Hans. They quickly took the man into the car and drove away from the scene.

"Finally caught him!" Hans said with relief.

Lin En nodded. "This is truly thrilling. However, we must continue to investigate this case in depth to find out what secrets are hidden behind it."

In the hazy night, a black sedan sped along the highway. Inside, Lin En sat behind the wheel, and in the passenger seat sat the suspect he had just apprehended—a criminal implicated in several major crimes. Their destination was FBI headquarters, where Lin En planned to hand the suspect over to a specialized team for interrogation.

The atmosphere in the car was tense and silent, broken only by the sound of rolling wheels and the occasional sirens. Lynn glanced at the suspect next to him from time to time, his eyes flashing with vigilance.

Suddenly, the suspect sat up straight with a fierce look in his eyes. He quickly glanced at the surrounding environment and then attacked Lynn unexpectedly.

"What are you doing?!" Lin En exclaimed, reacting quickly and trying to control the suspect. However, the suspect was extremely strong and broke free from Lin En's restraints and punched Lin En in the face.
