Chapter 200: Reveal All Their Secrets
Chapter 200: Reveal All Their Secrets
"Thank you, Lynn, that's so comforting." Gwen rolled her eyes but the smile on her face didn't fade.
The car quickly pulled into her school's parking lot. Lynn stopped the car and watched Gwen grab her backpack and sheet music and hurried out. He rolled down the window and called out, "I'll wait here for you."
Gwen looked back at him, a little surprised, "You want to stay?"
"Yeah." Lynn leaned back in her chair and took out her phone. "I need some time to breathe, too."
Gwen narrowed her eyes at him for a few seconds, a smile playing on her lips. "Fine, whatever you want. But don't run away. I'll have to ask you to evaluate my performance after the show."
"No problem." Lynn waved at her.
Gwen ran towards the school auditorium, while Lynn leaned back in the driver's seat, staring out the window. His fingers tapped the screen of his phone and he dialed Hans's number.
The phone rang several times before it was connected. Hans' voice came from the other end, still tired: "It's you again, Lin En. What's the new trouble this time?"
"It's not a problem." Lin En said calmly, "I just want to confirm if you have any new clues."
"No." Hans sighed. "I just had a fight with the guys in the lab. They still haven't figured out the source of the technology behind that mutant. However, they mentioned a possible supplier - a private research institute called 'Kronos Labs'."
"Konos Laboratory?" Lynn repeated, frowning slightly.
"Yes. Their names often appear in certain government gray areas, but we don't have enough evidence to prove they are related to the Holy Blood Alliance."
"Keep investigating," Lin En whispered, "I want to know what the relationship is between the Holy Blood Alliance and these people."
"Understood." Hans hung up the phone.
Lin En put away his phone and looked up toward the auditorium. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, spilling onto the ground. Students in their performance costumes streamed in and out of the entrance. At that moment, he felt a rare sense of peace.
The school auditorium was filled with a tense and exciting atmosphere. Students were busy with their final rehearsal. The conductor stood in the audience, waving his baton. The band's music alternated between rapid and slow. A group of parents sat in the back row, whispering among themselves, waiting for the performance to begin. Meanwhile, Lynn stood by the back wall, hands in her pockets, quietly watching Gwen in the front row. She sat at the piano, her hands dancing lightly across the keys, her gaze focused, seemingly completely absorbed in the music.
For Lin, this was a brief moment of relief. Although his mind was still filled with the shadow of the Holy Blood Alliance, he tried to focus on Gwen's performance. The music slowly stopped, and the conductor shouted "Excellent!" before giving the band a five-minute break. A burst of relaxed whispers and laughter suddenly filled the auditorium.
Lin En's phone vibrated. He glanced down and saw a text message from Hans: "We found some background information about the Konos Laboratory. We'll tell you when you get back."
He was about to reply when a sudden clamor of shouting reached his ears. Lin En looked up and saw a commotion in the front row of the auditorium. A tall boy suddenly rushed to the center of the orchestra, knocking over two chairs and roaring like an uncontrolled beast. His eyes were bloodshot, his face twitching, and his muscles seemed unusually tense. He grabbed a harp stand and smashed it into another student nearby.
"Kevin! Are you crazy?" A girl screamed and dodged, while the boy who was hit let out a cry of pain, covered his shoulder and fell to the ground.
Lynn's eyes instantly grew cold. He quickly took a few steps away from the wall and rushed through the crowd toward Kevin. Meanwhile, the other students scattered in panic, screaming and scattering in all directions. The scene was a scene of chaos. Gwen stood up from the piano chair, her face filled with shock and confusion.
"Back off!" Lynn whispered, his tone carrying an undeniable command. His voice cut through the noisy crowd, and Gwen quickly pulled several classmates back.
Kevin's movements became increasingly violent. He grabbed another instrument stand and slammed it to the ground, sending a deafening metallic crash. Lynn wasted no time. He quickly approached Kevin from the side, ducking to avoid the swing of the stand. Then, decisively grabbing Kevin's wrist and twisting it hard, Kevin let out a painful roar, and the stand in his hand fell to the ground with a clang.
"That's enough! Calm down!" Lynn did her utmost to suppress Kevin's movements, but Kevin's strength was surprisingly great, hardly like that of an ordinary high school student. His body twisted wildly, trying to break free from Lynn's control. The bloodshot in his eyes became increasingly obvious, and a low, incoherent roar emanated from his mouth.
"What are you doing?" Gwen called from behind, worry written all over her face.
"Stay back, Gwen!" Lynn shouted, then quickly bent Kevin's arms behind his back and drove her knees into his legs, forcing him to the ground.
Kevin struggled on the floor, his head banging against the ground, veins popping out of his face, and he had clearly lost all sense. There was even a hint of foam at the corner of his mouth, which immediately tensed up Lin En's nerves.
"This isn't a normal state of rage..." Lynn muttered to himself. He held Kevin's body down with one hand, and with the other, he reached for his sleeve and quickly lifted it, searching for any clues.
On Kevin's arm, Lynn found some tiny needle marks, as if something had just been injected. The surrounding skin was slightly red and had an unusual swelling.
"Fuck." Lin En cursed inwardly. His first reaction was that the boy might have taken some kind of drug, which might be the reason why he lost control.
Finally, several teachers rushed over from the chaotic crowd, their faces full of panic. "What's going on? What happened to Kevin?" One of the teachers knelt down to check on Kevin, apparently trying to bring him back to his senses.
"Don't come near!" Lin En warned in a low voice, his tone stern. "He's not conscious right now and could hurt anyone."
"But he is a child—" The teacher was obviously hesitant.
"He's a threat now." Lin En glanced at him with a sharp gaze, his words carrying unquestionable authority. The teacher immediately shut up and took a step back.
Kevin's struggles gradually weakened, as if the effects of the drugs were wearing off. His breathing became heavy and rapid, and he finally collapsed to the floor, his whole body limp. But his eyes remained glassy, and his lips trembled slightly, as if he were still trying to say something.
Lynn turned Kevin over and patted his face gently, "Kevin, can you hear me? Who told you to take these things?"
Kevin's eyes opened slightly, his lips trembling as if he wanted to speak, but in the end he only uttered a vague word: "...they...drug...took...me away..."
"Take away?" Lin En frowned and leaned closer. "Who took you away? The Holy Blood Alliance?"
Kevin didn't reply. His body completely relaxed, as if he had passed out.
The chaos in the auditorium gradually subsided, but the surrounding students and teachers were still whispering with horrified expressions. Gwen ran to Lynn's side, her eyes flicking between him and Kevin. "What's wrong with him? He can't be like this normally!"
"He was injected with a drug." Lin En stood up and wiped the sweat from his forehead. "This drug temporarily increased his strength and violence, but it also made him lose control."
"Drugs?" Gwen's eyes widened. "How is this possible? Kevin is just an ordinary student. How could he..."
"That's exactly what I want to find out." Lynn interrupted her, his eyes stern. "Gwen, you leave here with the other students and let the teachers deal with the remaining mess. I want to take him to the hospital and confirm the composition of the drugs in his system."
"Hospital?" Gwen wanted to say something, but she saw the determination in Lynn's eyes and finally nodded, "Okay. But you have to be careful."
Lin En did not answer, but called a teacher over to help stabilize the scene, and then he called Hans.
"You again." Hans sounded like he was chewing on something after the call was connected. "Don't tell me you're in trouble again."
"Yes, and it's a big problem." Lin En said quickly, "I just encountered a boy who suddenly went crazy at Gwen's school. He had obvious marks of injection on his body. I suspect it is related to the Holy Blood Alliance." "Injection marks?" Hans' tone immediately became serious. "Are you sure?"
"Very sure." Lynn whispered as he quickly left the auditorium, "I'm going to take him to the hospital and find out what's in his blood."
"I'll contact the lab and have them prepare." Hans paused, then added, "Lynn, this doesn't sound like a random incident. If the Holy Blood Alliance has already started targeting ordinary people, our situation may become more complicated."
"I know." Lin En hung up the phone, his eyes cold. He looked down at Kevin's pale face, and had a bad feeling in his heart.
Lynn placed a small cooler containing blood samples on a metal workbench in the FBI headquarters laboratory and glanced at his watch. It was one in the morning. He had already spent too much time tracking this case, and this time, he felt he was getting closer to the truth.
"Is this the sample collected from that student?" Laboratory director Rosa stood opposite him, wearing gloves and goggles, with a hint of doubt in her eyes.
"That's right," Lynn said in a steady voice, "I suspect this has something to do with mutants. His behavior, strength, and injection marks are all abnormal."
Rosa raised an eyebrow. "Mutants? Do you think the Holy Blood Alliance is using ordinary people for some kind of experiment?"
"That's exactly what I want to find out," Lynn replied in a cold tone. "First, do a blood test to see if we can find any key clues."
Rosa nodded without further questioning, turning to transfer the sample to the analytical instrument. An automated analyzer slowly started up, its robotic arm precisely extracting blood and beginning a series of complex chemical and genetic tests.
Lin En stood aside, his hands in his coat pockets, his eyes fixed on the progress bar on the screen. His thoughts were turbulent. If the Holy Blood Alliance truly injected mutant genes into ordinary people, it would not only be a conspiracy against society, but also a biological disaster.
A few minutes later, a series of complex data began to pop up on the screen. Rosa frowned, her eyes fixed on the display. "This is impossible..." she whispered, a hint of shock in her voice.
"What's impossible?" Lin En quickly came over and scanned the screen.
Rosa looked up and removed her goggles, a look of disbelief written across her face. "There's some kind of... highly abnormal gene fragment mixed in his blood. These fragments clearly don't belong to the normal human genome; they were artificially spliced in."
"Mutants?" Lynn asked, his voice as low as a muffled thunder.
"Yes," Rosa nodded. "The characteristics of these gene fragments are highly similar to some of the ability genes we've seen in mutant cases. Especially these gene sequences," she pointed to a portion of the data on the screen. "They were obviously extracted from a mutant with extraordinary powers."
Lin En's brow furrowed even more. "Extracting mutant genes and injecting them into ordinary people... What the hell is this?"
Rosa pondered for a moment, then said, "This isn't something any underground lab could do. It requires highly specialized bioengineering technology. And it seems they didn't just copy the genes; they enhanced them in some way, perhaps even speeding up their adaptation to the host. This explains the boy's sudden increase in strength and his loss of emotional control."
"They're making weapons." Lynn whispered, a chill in his voice.
"That's right," Rosa nodded, "but this experiment is extremely risky. An ordinary person's body can't fully withstand the side effects of mutant genes, so they will go berserk and out of control."
Lin En raised his head, his eyes as cold as a knife. "The question is, why did the Holy Blood Alliance do this? What is their ultimate goal?"
"That's the most frightening part," Rosa said. "If they find a more stable way to implant these gene fragments into ordinary people... can you imagine? They'll create an army that ordinary people can't fight against."
"And we may not even know where their laboratory is." Lynn gritted his teeth and clenched his fists tightly.
Rosa glanced at him and patted his shoulder gently. "I will continue to analyze this data to see if I can trace the source of the gene. Perhaps we can find a clue."
"Hurry up, I need to find their weakness as soon as possible." Lin En said, then turned and left the laboratory.
At two in the morning, Lin En sat in his office, his desk piled high with files related to the Holy Blood Alliance. The phone screen lit up; it was Hans calling.
"Why are you still awake?" Hans' voice sounded tired, but still with his usual laziness. "Don't tell me you're still studying that boy's blood sample."
"Just came out of the lab." Lin En leaned back in his chair and rubbed his temple. "There are indeed traces of mutant genes in the blood, and they were artificially implanted."
Hans was silent for a moment on the other end of the phone, then cursed under his breath, "Fuck. How did the Holy Blood Alliance get mutant genes? This isn't something an ordinary person can just casually extract. Someone must be backing them up."
"Rosa said this requires very professional technical support." Lin En nodded. "The Konos Laboratory we mentioned earlier is very likely the accomplice behind this."
"Do you think it's them?" asked Hans.
"That's the most likely clue at the moment," Lynn replied. "They've been accused of participating in illegal human experiments in the past, and they have intricate ties to certain military projects. If the Holy Blood Alliance wants mutant genes, they might choose this covert channel."
"It sounds like a dead end," Hans sighed. "This kind of lab has resources, secret funding, and military background. It's going to be hard for us to find a breakthrough."
"But we have to try." Lynn's voice was low but firm. "The Holy Blood Alliance won't wait for us to find them. They've already started to act, and Kevin is just the first victim. If we don't track them down quickly, they'll soon find their next target."
Hans was silent for a few seconds, then said, "I will continue to track the flow of funds from Konos Labs to see if I can find any clues. You should also be careful on your side and don't let these bastards push you too hard."
"You too." Lin En hung up the phone, threw the phone on the table, and took a deep breath. He looked at the messy documents on the table, and his mind kept replaying the scene of Kevin losing control and the increasingly disturbing actions of the Holy Blood Alliance.
A few hours later, Rosa sent a message asking him to return to the lab immediately.
Lynn almost ran into the laboratory. Rosa was already waiting by the microscope, her eyes flashing with excitement and nervousness.
"I found something," she said, turning the screen towards Lynn. "These gene fragments contain a very unique marker sequence. This marker is generally used in scientific research experiments to trace the origin of genes. And I found its registration record - this is a marker unique to the Konos Laboratory."
"Damn it," Lynn cursed softly, tapping his fingers on the table.
"This means," Rosa continued, "that they are not only connected to the Holy Blood Alliance, but may also be the direct technology provider to the Holy Blood Alliance. They are funding this horrific genetic experiment."
"That's enough." Lin En stood up straight, his eyes as sharp as a knife. "We need to find the location of the Konos Laboratory and uncover all their secrets."
Rosa looked at him and nodded, "Be careful, Lynn. If they were actually involved in these experiments, they might be far more dangerous than you think."
Lin En didn't answer, but turned and left. He knew that this clue might be their only breakthrough, and the only chance to stop the Holy Blood Alliance's actions. He would not let it slip away in vain.
