Frank was silent for a moment, tapping his fingers on the table, as if digesting Kate's information. "So, you're saying you've gotten close to him?"

"Yes." Kate nodded, her eyes full of confidence. "This morning's 'ride' was a good start. I could sense that he was a little wary of me, but not completely repulsive. He's not the kind of person who completely refuses contact, which means he's still useful."

Frank nodded slightly, his eyes shifting from the documents on the table to Kate's face. "So, what are you going to do next?"

Kate leaned back in her chair, crossed her arms, and a sly smile appeared on her face. "Follow up. I'll create more 'accidents' and gradually gain his trust. He doesn't know I'm a reporter, so I can pretend to be an ordinary citizen, or someone in need of help. As long as I can make him let his guard down, I can find a way in."

Frank's eyes sharpened. He stared at Kate, pondered for a moment, and finally said slowly, "Kate, are you sure you want to do this? If Lynn is as dangerous as you say, this game of yours might be very painful."

"I'm not afraid of pain." Kate's eyes showed a hint of determination. "Frank, this is the most real inside information we have access to. If I can get the core intelligence related to the Holy Blood Alliance, it will be the biggest headline of our newspaper this year."

Frank smiled slightly, reached out and took a sip of coffee from the table. "You're right. If you could get your hands on this stuff, it would definitely make headlines." He put down the coffee cup and returned his gaze to Kate. "But you have to be careful. The FBI is no ordinary law enforcement agency, and Lynn is no ordinary agent. He's far more vigilant than you think. Once he discovers your identity, he won't hesitate to cut off all contact."

Kate nodded slightly, "I know. I'll be careful."

Frank stared at her, his eyes revealing a complicated meaning. He finally sighed, "Well, since you've made up your mind, then go ahead. But I warn you, Kate, don't underestimate Lynn. He may seem calm, but there's an unshakable aura of danger about him. If you overdo it, he'll make you pay the price."

"I understand." Kate's tone remained calm, but her eyes flashed with determination.

Frank nodded. "Go ahead, then. If there's any progress, keep me informed."

Kate stood up, picked up her windbreaker, and put on a confident smile on her face. "Don't worry, Frank. This time, I will definitely bring back the truth that will shock everyone."

She turned and left the office with a steady step, a determined glint in her eyes.

As night fell, the streets of Brooklyn gradually became bathed in neon. The hustle and bustle of the after-get off work hours faded, and the lights on the cafe's terrace shone with a hint of warmth, making it particularly cozy on the slightly cool night. Kate sat by the window, a hot latte in her hand, her eyes constantly flicking toward the cafe's entrance.

She knew that Lin En had a habit of stopping here for a while to buy a cup of coffee before going home from get off work. She learned this through observation, and tonight, she planned to use this detail to narrow the distance between them.

A few minutes later, Lynn appeared. His figure, slender and steady in the light from the doorway, his black coat swaying slightly with his steps. He pushed the door open, glanced around, and soon met Kate's gaze.

Kate gave a faint smile and raised the coffee cup in her hand, "Lynn."

Lynn frowned, obviously surprised to see her again, but he didn't say anything. He walked over and stood by her table.

"Kate?" His voice was calm but with a hint of inquiry. "Why are you here?"

"Don't get me wrong," Kate said, taking a sip of coffee and smiling gently, "I often come to this cafe. I didn't expect to run into you again. Perhaps this is just luck?"

Lynn didn't respond immediately, but looked at her quietly for a few seconds, then nodded, "Maybe."

Kate put down her coffee cup and stood up. "If you don't mind, I'll buy you a drink?"

Lin En raised his eyebrows slightly, his eyes lingering on her face for a moment, then nodded, "As you wish."

Kate smiled, walked to the counter, and ordered a black coffee. As she paid, she quietly tilted her head to observe Lynn's expression from the corner of her eye. The man always had a calm and alert air, like a warrior ready for any emergency. This aura struck Kate as both daunting and intriguing.

She returned to Lynn with the coffee and handed him the paper cup, "Your black coffee."

"Thank you." Lin En took the coffee, his voice still calm, but there seemed to be a hint of inquiry in his eyes.

"Are you off work?" Kate asked in a relaxed tone, as if she was chatting casually.

"Yes." Lynn took a sip of coffee and said nothing more.

Kate chuckled, her fingers tapping the table. "Okay, I admit, I kind of wanted to talk to you. You know, my car really broke down this morning, but it's fixed now. I just wanted to express my gratitude and say thank you."

Lin En's eyes flickered slightly, but he was still not too impressed. "No need. It's just on the way."

"Are you always so cold?" Kate pretended to complain, with a hint of sarcasm. "Someone helped you, can't you respond in a friendly way?"

"I've accepted the coffee," Lynn said calmly.

Kate couldn't help but laugh, "Well, then I should be honored."

Lynn glanced at her and picked up her coffee. "If there's nothing else, I should go home."

Kate opened her eyes wide in mock surprise. "Go home? Brooklyn's night is so beautiful, aren't you going to enjoy it?"

Lynn paused and raised her eyes to look at her. "Everyone relaxes differently."

Kate's lips curled up slightly, her mind racing with thoughts about the next topic. She knew this man was difficult to approach, but she wasn't one to give up easily.

"Since you're going home, would you mind letting me borrow your time for a while?" Kate smiled just the right way. "I just happen to have something I want to talk to you about."

Lynn raised an eyebrow, but didn't answer. Instead, she looked at her for a few seconds, then nodded, "Five minutes."

Kate's smile widened. "Five minutes is plenty."

The two walked out of the cafe together. The night breeze blew Kate's blonde hair. She looked down at the windbreaker in her hand, then trotted two steps to catch up with Lynn's pace.

"Your home isn't far from here, is it?" Kate asked cheerfully.

"Yes." Lynn answered briefly.

"That's great. I'll just treat it as a chat while taking a walk." Kate smiled lightly, deliberately making her tone sound harmless.

Along the way, Kate tried to lighten the mood with some light-hearted topics, such as the decoration of the cafe and the nightlife in Brooklyn, but Lynn's responses were still brief and even perfunctory. However, she was not discouraged because she knew that this indifference was just his instinctive defense, and all she needed was a breakthrough point.

A few minutes later, the two arrived at Lynn's door. Lynn took out the key, stopped at the door, turned to look at Kate, and said, "Five minutes have passed."

"Wait." Kate blinked and gave a slightly mischievous smile. "Okay, I know this is a bit abrupt, but do you mind if I come in and sit down?"

Lynn frowned slightly, a hint of alertness in his eyes, "Why are you so interested?"

Kate responded without hesitation, "You saved me. I want to get to know you better, isn't that okay? You always look so aloof, like you have so many stories hidden behind you. To reporters, you're a living mystery."

"Reporter?" Lin En's brows furrowed even deeper, and there was a hint of coldness in his tone.

Kate immediately realized she'd said the wrong thing, but she reacted quickly, raising her hands in a surrender gesture. "Don't be nervous! I'm just an ordinary reporter, covering human interest stories and local news. I'm not the kind to pry into people's private lives." Lynn stared at her, his gaze like a knife, as if scrutinizing her words. After a few seconds, he finally spoke, "Come in. Fifteen minutes."

Kate's smile instantly spread, "You are such a gentleman."

Lynn opened the door and Kate followed him in. The interior of the house was simple, with a clean and neat decoration style and neatly arranged furniture. It was obviously the home of someone who was well organized in his life.

Kate looked around, her gaze briefly fixed on a few photos on the wall. One showed Lynn standing next to an antique car with a man who looked older than him, while another showed Lynn sitting at a piano with a blonde girl. The people in the photos were smiling, a stark contrast to Lynn's current expression of indifference.

"Your sister?" Kate pointed at the girl in the photo.

"Yes." Lynn came out of the kitchen and handed her a glass of water.

"You seem like someone who cares deeply about her family." Kate took the water and said with a smile, "This is quite different from your apathy."

Lin En didn't respond, but sat on the sofa, looking at her calmly, "What do you want to talk about?"

Kate took a sip of water and sat down across from him, pretending to listen attentively. "I don't really have anything special to say. I just want to get to know you. What do you do for a living?"

"A government official." Lynn said calmly.

Kate raised an eyebrow, "So simple?"

"The nature of the job means I can't say too much." Lynn leaned back on the sofa, his eyes still wary.

Kate knew this conversation wouldn't go smoothly, but she didn't rush it. Instead, she changed the subject to something more relaxed. "Do you go to that cafe every day?"

Lin En nodded slightly, "It's a habit."

"Some habits are interesting." Kate smiled, then pretended to ask casually, "For example, do you think Brooklyn has become a little strange recently? Like...some unusual things have happened?"

Lin En's eyes changed slightly, but he quickly regained his composure. "What do you mean?"

Kate shrugged casually. "Oh, I just heard some rumors, like some organization is active here, and there are mysterious things like blood sacrifices. I think it's ridiculous, but I'm also very curious."

"You've been trying to get close to me." Lynn's voice broke the silence. His tone was low, like the resonance of a cello in the night. "What do you want, Kate?"

Kate's smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure and tilted her head to look at him. "That sounds like an interrogation, Lynn. Are you suspecting me of something?"

"It's not suspicion." Lynn put down the coffee cup, placed his hands on the table, leaned forward slightly, and locked Kate's eyes with his gaze like a sharp blade. "It's confirmation. I know who you are and what you want."

Kate's breathing paused for a second, but she quickly regained her composure and smiled with a hint of helplessness. "Well, since you said that, I won't hide it anymore. I'm a reporter, and I'm indeed investigating something."

"Holy Blood Alliance." Lynn added coldly, as if he already knew everything.

Kate raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise on her face, but she quickly concealed it. "Since you already know, I won't beat around the bush." She straightened up, her tone frank. "Yes, I'm investigating the Holy Blood Alliance. Their recent activities have attracted too much attention, and you—your connection to them is clearly not simple."

"So you want to get the news by getting close to me?" There was no anger in Lynn's voice, but instead a chilling calmness.

"Don't say that," Kate spread her hands, trying to sound more sincere. "You're a principled person, I can see that. You're fighting these guys, and I just want to expose the truth. We can actually work together—you have the intelligence, I have the platform, and together we can bring down the Holy Blood Alliance."

Lin En didn't respond immediately. Instead, he stared at her, as if trying to determine the truth in her words. He tapped his fingertips on the table twice, then slowly shook his head. "You don't understand these people, and you don't understand me. The Holy Blood Alliance isn't something you can just meddle with."

"Why not?" Kate's voice suddenly rose, her eyes filled with stubbornness. "They're a terrorist organization that's destroying the lives of ordinary people. If you really want to stop them, why don't you let more people know the truth? Public outrage can crush any organization."

"Angry?" Lin En sneered, a hint of sarcasm in his tone. "Do you think this is just an ordinary crime? The Holy Blood Alliance has extended its tentacles deep into society. The technology, resources, and manpower they possess far exceed your imagination. What can you change by writing a headline? It will only implicate more innocent people, including yourself."

Kate was stunned for a moment. She opened her mouth, as if to retort, but Lynn's gaze silenced her. There was no trace of contempt in his eyes, only a cold determination and a ruthless understanding of reality.

Just as the atmosphere grew increasingly tense, a low, humming sound suddenly reached Lin's ears. His expression suddenly changed, and his eyes quickly glanced out the window. On the street outside, a black van was quietly parked on the side of the road, its windows reflecting the faint light of the street lamp.

"Kate, get down!" Lynn almost yelled.

The next second, the window exploded, sending shards of glass flying everywhere. A fiery flash of fire shot in from outside, followed by a deafening explosion. The table flipped over in the shockwave, sending shattered pieces flying everywhere. Lynn lunged at Kate, pinning her to the ground and shielding her from the flying debris with her body.

Kate was so frightened by the sudden attack that she couldn't speak for a moment. She could only hear the roaring sound in her ears and her mind was blank. Lynn quickly turned over, grabbed the gun with one hand, and pulled her up from the ground with the other hand.

"Hurry, go to the basement!" Lynn's voice was calm but with a hint of oppression.

Kate gritted her teeth, forced herself to stand up, and followed Lynn to the basement entrance. Just as they ran down a few steps, the door was violently smashed open, and several dark shadows rushed into the house, the weapons in their hands reflecting a cold light.

Lin En didn't hesitate. He turned around, raised his gun, and quickly pulled the trigger. The bullet accurately hit the enemy rushing in front. The enemy fell to the ground with a muffled groan, and the weapon fell to the side.

"Who are they?" Kate gasped, fear evident in her voice.

"The Holy Blood Alliance." Lin En replied while shooting, his tone as cold as ice, "It seems that your investigation is more dangerous than you thought."

Kate bit her lower lip, suppressing the fear within. She knew now wasn't the time to ask questions, so she could only lower her head and quickly follow Lin En in retreating. They rushed into the basement, and Lin En immediately pressed a secret switch, causing the iron door to slowly close, temporarily isolating them from the outside attack.

The basement wasn't large, but it was arranged like a simple safe house, with weapons, ammunition, and emergency supplies placed around. Kate looked around, her eyes filled with shock and uneasiness.

"Have you been prepared for this kind of scenario?" she asked, with a hint of disbelief in her voice.

"Preparation is a habit." Lin En quickly reloaded the magazine and lowered his head to check his weapon, "Especially when dealing with people like the Holy Blood Alliance."

"Why did they attack you?" Kate's voice trembled, but her eyes began to reveal a kind of determination. "Is it because of me?"

"Maybe." Lynn looked up at her, his eyes as sharp as a knife, "It may be because I have been watching their actions. This has nothing to do with you, Kate, but now you have been involved."

Kate was silent for a moment, then whispered, "What should we do?"

Lynn handed her a spare pistol. "If you want to stay alive, do as I say. Now listen carefully—they won't leave easily. We have to break through."

Kate took the gun. Although her hands were shaking, she didn't flinch. She took a deep breath and looked at Lynn. "I will do as you say."

Lynn nodded, turned around, walked to the other side of the basement, and opened the secret door leading to the street. He glanced back at Kate and said in a low, calm voice, "Follow me closely and don't make any noise. If I say run, you run and don't look back."

Kate nodded through gritted teeth.
