Chapter 206: Never Win
Chapter 206: Never Win
"Can Lynn's team handle it?" She couldn't help but whisper to Hans, the head of the technical team sitting next to her.
Hans stared at the screen, his expression calm. "This isn't the first time Lin En has done something like this. He's capable, but..." He paused, glancing at Kate. "The Holy Blood Alliance isn't just any ordinary target. This involves the direct involvement of one of their core members, and actions like this usually come with some kind of devastating back-up plan."
Kate bit her lip, clenched her fists tightly, but didn't dare to take her eyes off the screen for a moment.
Lin En successfully infiltrated the warehouse's perimeter. Hans's intelligence was accurate. The security here was extremely tight, and the patrols' routes were perfectly planned. Lin En leaned against a metal frame and quickly analyzed his next course of action.
The team member's voice came from the headset: "The east patrol has been cleared, we can advance."
Lin En nodded and whispered an order: "Move, remain silent. Confirm that the cargo is the priority."
He glanced up at the large warehouse not far away, where the target was located. The warehouse's iron door was half-open, and a faint light shone through. He could vaguely see several workers busy loading and unloading some huge boxes. Lin En quickly scanned the markings on the boxes through his binoculars, his brow furrowed.
"Hans, can you find the numbers on these boxes?" Lynn asked in a low voice.
Hans responded quickly, "We're already checking. Wait a minute—these numbers belong to a company called Trian Logistics, but it's a shell company with almost no real business."
"Typical disguise," Lin En whispered, his eyes sharper. "The contents of these boxes are most likely related to the Holy Blood Alliance's experiments."
He was about to move closer when suddenly, a fierce quarrel was heard from inside the warehouse.
"You're stalling!" a man's voice shouted angrily.
Lynn's eyes narrowed as he quickly adjusted the frequency of his headphones, using the device to capture the conversation in the warehouse.
"Caleb," another voice said, calmer but with a hint of impatience, "These goods need to be carefully inspected to ensure there are no problems during transportation."
"Check? We don't have time to check!" The angry voice continued, "Do you know how critical this operation is? If these things are not delivered on time, the Holy Blood Alliance's plan will be completely disrupted. And the FBI is already keeping an eye on us-"
"So we can't make any mistakes." The calm voice interrupted coldly, "Your job is to protect the goods. The rest is not your responsibility."
Lin En's brow furrowed further and further. His intuition told him that the angry voice was Caleb's, while the calm voice was most likely the person in charge of the experiment—a scientist, or someone higher up.
He whispered into the headset, "I heard Caleb. The cargo is very important. It may be the core of their entire plan. The operation must be accelerated."
"Got it." The team members responded in a low voice.
Lynn gestured, signaling the team to disperse, while he himself went around to the other side of the warehouse and approached the control center inside.
Inside the warehouse, Caleb's face was gloomy, as if water was about to drip out. He was wearing a black tactical jacket, his eyes fierce, and he paced back and forth, a pistol in hand. Several heavily armed mercenaries stood beside him, while on the other side, a middle-aged man in a white lab coat appeared more calm.
“Don’t make me repeat myself,” Caleb whispered, his voice thick with murderous intent. “These shipments must leave on time.”
"Then tell your men to hurry up," the man in the lab coat replied coldly, "My job is done. Now it's your turn."
Caleb was about to say something when suddenly a low warning came from his earphones: "There's movement, there seems to be someone outside."
His expression changed immediately, and he raised his head sharply, his eyes sweeping towards the warehouse door like a hawk. His men quickly went on alert, all their guns pointed at the warehouse entrance.
Lin En stood outside the door and took a deep breath. He knew that the battle was about to begin.
"All units, take your positions," Lynn ordered in a low voice, his voice calm but with deadly determination.
The door was kicked open, and gunshots rang out in the warehouse. Lin En rushed in first, firing two precise bullets from his gun, instantly killing the two guards.
"Do it!" he roared, and the FBI team behind him immediately followed.
Bullets whizzed through the warehouse, Lin En's movements so fast that no one could catch them. He fired as he approached Caleb. Caleb, not to be outdone, raised his gun and fired back, shouting, "Protect the goods! Don't let them succeed!"
A melee broke out in the warehouse, and the air was filled with the smell of gunpowder.
The night air was thick with the smell of gunpowder and tension. The gunfire inside the warehouse gradually subsided as FBI agents cleared the scene. The cargo boxes were opened, revealing rows of transparent containers filled with unidentified liquids, interspersed with complex documents and equipment.
But Lin En had no time to look at those things. He stood at the warehouse door, his eyes sharp as a falcon, watching the black SUV speeding away from the other side of the dock. Hans' voice came from his headset: "Lynn, the target vehicle has been confirmed. Caleb is in it. He has two guards and is attempting to escape the port."
"Keep an eye on him," Lin En replied coldly, turning quickly and running towards the FBI vehicle parked outside. He opened the door, stepped on the accelerator, and the black SUV roared out like a beast.
"Hans, pull up the surrounding traffic surveillance." Lynn gave orders through his headset while driving. "We must block his escape route. How many exits are there in Brooklyn? I want real-time updates."
"Retrieving it." Hans' voice was busy, yet calm. "There are two main exits in Brooklyn to the north, and there's also Old Port Road to the south that leads to the highway. I've notified two teams to block it."
"Too slow." Lin En said coldly, his eyes fixed on the target in the distance. "He's buying time. He may have arranged for support. We can't give him a chance."
On the street ahead, Caleb's SUV was swerving frantically through the narrow harbor lanes. He sat in the back seat, his face livid, his eyes gleaming with danger.
"Get rid of them!" He growled at the guard in the driver's seat, his voice full of oppression.
"I'm trying my best!" The guard glanced back, his forehead covered in sweat. The FBI SUV was closely following theirs, and Lynn's driving skills were clearly putting immense pressure on them.
Caleb clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. "These bastards already know too much. If I get caught, you know what will happen."
Another guard in the front seat whispered, "Should we activate the 'emergency plan'?"
Caleb stared coldly at the rearview mirror, was silent for a moment, and then nodded, "Start it. But move quickly, I don't want to die at the hands of these agents."
The guard nodded, opened a metal box, and took out a small remote control. He quickly pressed the button, then rolled down the window and threw a metal can filled with an unknown liquid out of the car.
The metal canister arced through the air before exploding with a bang. A cloud of thick white smoke immediately spread out, instantly enveloping the entire alley.
Lin En's SUV slammed to a stop, its air filtration system automatically activated, but the view out the window was completely obscured. He gritted his teeth and cursed softly, then quickly turned around and went around another alley.
"Hans!" Lynn shouted in a low, cold voice, "They're using smokescreen to try to shake us off. I need positioning support."
"We saw it," Hans responded quickly. "They're fleeing south towards Laogang Road. This road leads to an abandoned highway, but there's also a small dock nearby—if they're planning a sea evacuation, that's probably where they'll be."
Lynn's fingers tapped the steering wheel lightly, a cold glint in his eyes, "Dockyard. Send support, but let me get there first."
"Understood." Hans' voice was firm.
The black SUV emerged from the thick smoke and quickly headed south of the harbor. Their target was a small shipyard hidden deep within an abandoned pier, where the ships had long been secretly controlled by the Holy Blood Alliance. By boarding that ship, Caleb could escape safely.
"Hurry up!" Caleb growled, his fingers drumming on the armrests. The guard in the driver's seat gripped the steering wheel tightly with both hands, cold sweat oozing from his forehead. "We're almost there, just hold on for another minute—"
Before he could finish his words, a dazzling headlight suddenly lit up at the end of the alley in the distance. It was Lin En's SUV, and he was catching up at incredible speed, like a cheetah clutching its prey.
"Damn it, how did he get around here?!" the guard cursed and turned the steering wheel sharply, trying to get rid of Lin En.
A sneer curled up at the corner of Lin En's mouth. He stepped on the accelerator, and the SUV roared and slammed into the back of Caleb's SUV. The two vehicles collided violently in the alley, making a sharp sound of metal friction.
Caleb was so shocked that he threw himself forward. He gritted his teeth and said, "Shoot! Don't let him catch up!"
The guard sitting in the passenger seat immediately raised an automatic pistol, leaned out of the window, and fired at Lin En's SUV. The bullet hit the windshield of Lin En's car, but the specially made bulletproof glass only had a few cracks.
Lin En's expression remained unchanged. He grabbed the pistol from the passenger seat, quickly opened the car window, and fired two precise shots. The first hit the guard's shoulder, and the second knocked the weapon out of his hand.
The guard cried out in pain and shrank back into the car, his face pale and blood oozing from between his fingers.
"Idiot!" Caleb roared, snatching the guard's gun. "I'll do it!"
He leaned out the window, pointed the gun at Lynn's SUV, and pulled the trigger coldly. Bullets whizzed past in the night, but Lynn had already predicted this move and swerved the steering wheel, moving the car sideways and avoiding the shooting.
At this moment, the two vehicles had already entered the open space near the dock. Lynn stepped on the brakes, and the SUV stopped with a sharp sound of friction. He quickly got out of the car and aimed the gun at Caleb's SUV.
"Don't move!" Lin En growled, his voice seemed to penetrate the air directly.
But Caleb didn't stop, instead he jumped out of the car and ran towards the dock. He was running very fast, holding a gun in his hand, and he fired at Lin En as he ran.
Lynn chased after him without hesitation. His steps were steady and powerful, and each step precisely shortened the distance between them.
"Caleb!" Lynn growled, "You can't get away!"
Caleb turned around and sneered, then suddenly stopped and pointed his gun at Lin En, "You can try and see who is faster!"
Lin En didn't hesitate and pulled the trigger. The bullet grazed Caleb's arm and flew past. Caleb's gun fell to the ground with a thud. He groaned, covered his bleeding arm, and fell to his knees.
Lynn rushed forward quickly, kicked Caleb's gun away, pushed him to the ground, and buckled the handcuffs with a "click".
"The game is over." Lin En said in a low voice, his eyes as cold as ice, "Now it's your turn to speak."
Caleb gasped, his eyes filled with anger and unwillingness, "Do you think that catching me can stop everything? You can't change anything. The Holy Blood Alliance's plan has already begun--"
"Then you'd better pray that we can find the answer soon." Lin En pulled him up from the ground and said coldly, "Otherwise, you will be the first to pay the price."
At the same time, the FBI reinforcement team arrived and blocked the entire dock. Lynn handed Caleb to Hans, his expression still grim.
The atmosphere in the conference room at FBI headquarters was so heavy it was hard to breathe. Lynn stood at the table, his hands resting on it, his gaze stern. The chilling phone call still rang in his ears. Though the call had ended, the other party's words were etched deeply into his mind, like a knife.
"We know you've captured Caleb. He's very important to us, and we know you treat your colleagues the same way." The voice on the other end of the line was low, slow, and filled with a chilling threat. "We have one of your men in our hands. If you want him alive, return Caleb to us."
Lynn didn't respond immediately, but clenched his fists.
"I'll give you 24 hours to think about it. If you don't have an answer, your colleagues will pay the price." The person on the other end of the phone hung up without waiting for Lynn's response.
Lin En looked down at the table, his facial muscles tense as if ready to explode. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.
"Who is it?" Hans stood beside him, his expression equally serious. "Who did the Holy Blood Alliance capture?"
"Johnson." Lynn looked up, his eyes as cold as frozen water. "He was in charge of the perimeter surveillance mission yesterday. Clearly, they had a plan in place."
"Damn it." Hans cursed under his breath, "Johnson is a good man. He has a family, two children..."
Lin En didn't respond. His eyes swept over the documents and maps on the table, his mind racing. He knew this was the Holy Blood Alliance testing him, but the problem was, in this game, he couldn't make a single wrong move.
Kate sat in the corner, her fists clenched. Her face was pale, but her eyes were resolute. "Lynn, they arrested Johnson, which means they knew we were approaching. This was their defensive counterattack."
"This isn't just a counterattack," Lynn said coldly. "It's a threat, a means of controlling the situation. They know we need Caleb, and they know we won't sacrifice our colleagues easily."
"So what are you going to do?" Kate looked at him directly, a hint of anger in her voice. "You're not really considering handing Caleb over, are you?"
"I can't." Lynn's answer was decisive and cold. He turned and stared at Kate, his eyes showing no sign of compromise. "Caleb is our only key to the core of the Holy Blood Alliance. If we let him go, we will lose everything—including the chance to get closer to the Holy Blood Alliance."
"What about Johnson?" Kate asked back. Her voice was quiet, but it carried a questioning tone that was hard to ignore. "Are you going to give up on him? Let him sacrifice himself for this operation?"
Lin En's expression remained unchanged, but his eyes flickered slightly. "I won't give up on anyone," he said in a deep yet powerful voice. "But I won't let the Holy Blood Alliance control this game either. This must be done my way."
Hans sighed, stepped aside, and whispered an order to the communicator, "Immediately lock onto Johnson's last signal location and mobilize all available surveillance and satellite imagery. We must find him."
Lynn glanced at Hans, then picked up the intercom on the table and said, "Notify all teams. Within 24 hours, we may face the worst possible situation. Caleb must stay here. The information he has is more important than anyone else's, but we also have to make sure Johnson returns alive."
Meanwhile, in a dimly lit basement within the Holy Blood Alliance's hidden stronghold, Johnson was tied to a metal chair. There were streaks of blood on his face, and blood was oozing from the corners of his mouth, but his eyes still held a stubborn stubbornness.
In front of him stood a man in a black suit, holding a small electric shock device in his hand and a cruel smile on his face.
"Will your friends come to rescue you?" the man whispered, his tone full of playful contempt.
Johnson raised his head and forced a sarcastic smile. "What do you think?"
The man in black's face darkened. He took a step closer, pressed the stun gun against Johnson's arm, and suddenly activated the switch. A sharp sound of electricity rang out, and Johnson's body twitched instantly, but he clenched his teeth and did not make any cry of pain.
"Being stubborn won't do you any good." The man retracted the stun gun, a sneer on his face. "But it doesn't matter. We just need you to stay alive until they agree to our terms."
Johnson gasped, trying to hold back the pain in his body, and said in a low voice: "You will never win."
The man snorted coldly and said nothing more. He turned and walked out of the room, leaving Johnson alone, tied to the chair.
In the early hours of the morning, Lin En stood in the interrogation room, with Caleb sitting at the table in front of him. Although his hands were handcuffed behind his back to the chair, Caleb's expression remained calm, even with a hint of sarcasm in his smile.
