Chapter 211 Aggressive
Chapter 211 Aggressive
Matthew raised his head and looked at Lynn. His expression was still trying to maintain a hint of calm, but that confidence was already very weak. His hands rubbed unconsciously on the table, and his knuckles turned slightly white from the force.
"Agent Lynn," Matthew began, trying to regain his previous arrogance, but his voice was tinged with unease. "I hope you can understand that this is all a misunderstanding."
Lynn sat down opposite him, holding a thick document in his hand, and threw it on the table with a dull sound. He did not speak immediately, but stared at Matthew with that silent oppression.
"All of this is about you," Lynn finally spoke, her tone icy. "The illegal transaction records of the Krox Group, the transcript of the truck driver, Alvin Clark, and the surveillance video from the accident scene. Every piece of evidence points to the same conclusion—you deliberately murdered Carl Miller."
Matthew's face changed, but he still tried to refute, "This is ridiculous! What evidence do you have to prove that this has anything to do with me? You are just looking for a scapegoat!"
Lynn ignored his excuses and flipped through the documents, pulling out a photo – it was a truck logo captured in the surveillance video, clearly showing the words "West Transport."
"That's the logo of a truck, and this company was then affiliated with the Crooks Group," Lynn said coldly. "More importantly, Alvin Clark's transcript clearly states that he deliberately rammed Carl Miller's car at your instruction."
"Clark is a criminal! What he says is not credible at all!" Matthew's voice suddenly rose, trying to cover up his inner fear with anger.
"He is indeed a criminal." Lin En's eyes did not waver at all, "And you are his employer."
Matthew opened his mouth, but no words came out. He leaned forward slightly, as if trying to overpower Lin En with his momentum, but Lin En didn't give him any chance.
"Carl Miller discovered the flow of illegal funds from the Krox Group," Lynn continued, his tone as cold as a knife. "He was an ordinary man, completely unaware of the extent of the trouble he'd gotten himself into. And you, Matthew Hallock, decided to solve the problem by killing him. By staging a car accident disguised as an 'accident.'"
"You have no evidence!" Matthew suddenly roared, his voice so sharp that it was almost piercing.
Lynn leaned back in her chair, staring at him with an icy gaze. "We have all the evidence, Matthew. You can't get away with this."
The air in the interrogation room became unusually heavy, Matthew's breathing became rapid, and large drops of cold sweat slid down his forehead. He finally realized that he had no way to escape.
"You won't understand..." He whispered, a hint of despair in his voice, "I'm just following orders... The group told me to do this. I'm just an executor!"
"Who told you to do this?" Lin En's eyes became sharper. "Tell me, Matthew. Maybe I can leave you a way out."
Matthew raised his head and looked at Lynn with complicated eyes, as if he was trying to gauge whether he still had a chance to resist. But he soon realized that Lynn would not give him any breathing space.
Finally, he lowered his head and said in a hoarse voice: "It's... it's my father. He asked me to get rid of Carl Miller. All the capital flows are related to the group. If they are discovered, we will all be finished. He asked me to make sure not to leave any clues..."
Lin En's expression remained unchanged, but his fists clenched slightly. He knew that Matthew's confession not only confirmed his guilt, but also completely exposed the darkness of the Krox Group.
"Very good." Lin En said coldly, "Your father can't escape either."
He stood up, turned and left the interrogation room, while Matthew sat there dejectedly, completely losing all his arrogance and pretense.
Lynn opened the door and Hans was already waiting for him outside. "How is it?"
"He's confessed," Lin En said, a hint of cold fatigue in his tone, "and this is just the beginning."
As night fell, the lights of FBI headquarters remained bright, appearing particularly desolate and cold. Lynn stood at the office window, looking out over the city at night. Matthew Hallock's confession had completely opened a path to the truth, and the end of the path clearly led to his father, Richard Hallock.
Richard was not only the founder of the Crox Group, but also a powerful corporate magnate. His name frequently appeared at many high-profile social gatherings and in business magazines, but behind this respectable facade lay a cold, cruel mask. Lynn knew that bringing such a man to justice would undoubtedly be a difficult task.
"We've gathered enough evidence," Hans said, standing behind him, his voice low but full of confidence. "Matthew's confession points to Richard, and we've discovered even more problems in the Krox Group's financial records. We've uncovered illegal fund flows, money laundering records, and contracts with several criminal groups. Richard's true colors have been exposed."
Lin En didn't turn around. He just nodded, his eyes still fixed on the city lights. "The question is, will he surrender?"
"A man like him would never do that." Hans walked up to him and handed a document to Lin En. "But we have already locked down his hiding place. Intelligence shows that Richard moved to a private estate in the suburbs a few days ago. Obviously, he knew the storm was approaching."
Lin En flipped through the documents and saw an aerial photo of the estate. It covered a large area, surrounded by woods and high walls, like an isolated fortress.
"How's the defense there?" Lynn asked, his voice as calm as a general giving orders.
"It's very tight," Hans replied, pointing to a few marked points on the photo. "The security system is top-notch. The manor is surrounded by cameras and there's a team of mercenaries guarding it. These people are not just for show—they're all trained and probably have weapons in their hands."
"This makes things even more interesting." A sneer appeared on Lin En's lips, but his eyes were still sharp. "Notify all teams to take action tonight."
Hans nodded, turned around and left to arrange the task, while Lynn sat back at his desk, lowering his head to sort out all the details of the case.
In the early hours of the morning, an FBI task force gathered in a dimly lit wooded area. Dozens of black SUVs were parked in a secluded area, their lights off. Only the rustling of footsteps and whispers coming from earpieces could be heard. Linn stood at the front, clad in tactical gear and clutching a silenced pistol.
"We have two goals," Lynn said to everyone in a low, cold voice. "First, capture Richard Hallock alive. Second, ensure the safety of innocent people. But if you encounter resistance, fight back immediately."
Everyone nodded, no one saying a word. They knew that the target of this mission wasn't just one person, but a key link in the fight against a massive criminal network.
Lin En glanced at his watch and whispered, "Move."
The team split into several groups and quickly sneaked into the woods surrounding the manor. Infrared detectors were installed on the high walls of the manor, but the technical team had successfully hacked into the security system and blocked most of the monitoring equipment.
Lin En and his team quietly approached the main entrance of the manor. Hans' voice came from his headset: "The perimeter has been cleared. There are two guards on the right side of the gate."
"Got it." Lynn raised his hand to signal the team members to cover him, then rushed to the door in one step, and fired two bullets accurately from the gun in his hand, directly hitting the shoulders of the two guards, making them unable to fight.
"Keep moving forward." Lynn whispered, and the team members quickly approached the gate and used special tools to pry open the lock.
The lights inside the manor were dim, but footsteps and voices could be heard faintly upstairs. Lin En quickly determined the enemy's position and led his team to split up. Their movements were swift and silent, like ghosts in the dark night.
Suddenly, a burst of gunfire came from deep within the manor, breaking the tranquility of the night.
"The enemy has discovered us!" Hans' voice came from the headset, "There's a sniper on the third floor, be careful!"
Lin En quickly leaned against the wall and looked up at the third floor. His eyes caught a dark figure aiming a gun downwards. Without hesitation, he raised his gun and fired a well-aimed bullet into the sniper's wrist, forcing him to drop his weapon. "The sniper is taken care of," Lin En whispered. "Keep pushing forward."
He led the team up the stairs, quickly cleared several rooms, and finally came to a heavy wooden door. From the door came a low quarrel, obviously, Richard was inside.
Lin En signaled the team to stand by, then kicked the door open. The scene inside startled him.
Richard Hallock sat in a chair in the middle of the room, flanked by two heavily armed bodyguards. His face showed no sign of panic, but rather a calm contempt.
"You're finally here." Richard spoke slowly, his tone revealing chilling confidence, "I thought you would be even later."
"Stand up, Richard." Lynn's voice was cold and emotionless. "You are under arrest."
Richard didn't move, but leaned back in his chair and said slowly, "Do you know what you are doing? I am the founder of the Krox Group. The people I know can make every door in this country open for me. How much trouble will you get into if you arrest me?"
"Do you know what you're saying?" Lynn stepped forward, pointing the gun at Richard's head. "You're not debating with a court, you're pleading for your own life. Stand up, and don't make me repeat myself."
Richard stared at Lin En, a cold look flashing in his eyes, but he finally stood up slowly. The bodyguards around him tried to move, but were quickly subdued by Lin En's team members.
"You're going to regret this, Agent," Richard whispered, his tone threatening. "This isn't the end."
Lynn looked at him coldly. "You're right, this isn't the end. The end is when you stand in court and face the consequences of your crimes."
He put the cuffs on Richard's wrists and led him out of the room.
At dawn, Lynn escorted Richard back to FBI headquarters. Hans was waiting for him in the parking lot. When he saw Richard being taken out of the car, he smiled and said, "Looks like we won this round."
Lin En nodded, his eyes as calm as water. "He still has too many things to say, but he has no way to escape."
The FBI headquarters was bustling with activity early in the morning, phones ringing one after another, and agents walking through the corridors, folders or headphones in hand, faces solemn. In Lynn's office, the atmosphere was even more solemn than outside.
A newspaper was spread out on his desk. The front-page headline read: "Krox Corporation Board of Directors Pressures FBI to Release Harlock Father and Son." Below the headline was a photo of Richard Harlock, who still looked calm and composed, as if no one could shake his empire even if he was imprisoned.
Lin En held his coffee in his hand and stared at the newspaper, his face expressionless. He had long expected that this storm would not end with the arrest of Richard and his son. In fact, it might just be the beginning.
"Have you seen the news?" Hans pushed open the door and walked in, also holding a newspaper. "These board members are really brave. They actually protested directly to the FBI. This happened much faster than I expected."
"They have no other choice." Lin En put down his coffee and said calmly, "The Krox Group is their lifeline. Without the Harlocks, they'd be like losing their protective umbrella. These people know that if Richard and Matthew fall completely, their business empire will also collapse."
Hans sat down in a chair and crossed his arms over his chest. "Did they ask for bail?"
"It's been filed." Lynn nodded, opened his computer, and pulled up a document. "Richard and Matthew's lawyers have already filed a bail application, and they use a very clever reason—they claim that there are loopholes in the FBI's arrest procedures and that some of the evidence was illegally obtained."
Hans snorted coldly. "Typical delaying tactics. Do they think they can get away with it by exploiting legal loopholes?"
"This is a dual battle involving public opinion and the law," Lin En said calmly. "Not only are they trying to pressure us through legal procedures, they're also trying to use the media to manipulate public opinion, making the outside world believe the FBI is abusing its power to suppress the Krox Group."
"This is truly shameless," Hans frowned. "We have so much solid evidence—illegal fund flows, money laundering records, and Matthew's confession. Do they think they can just erase this?"
"Don't underestimate these people," Lynn said in a stern tone. "More than half of these board members have connections to high-ranking politicians. The media is powerful enough to portray us as villains, and Richard will become what they call an 'innocent victim.' If we can't defeat them thoroughly in court, things will become very troublesome."
Hans was silent for a moment, then said, "So what's your plan?"
Lynn raised his head, a cold glint in his eyes. "First, we must ensure that all the evidence in our hands can withstand any legal scrutiny. I want you to bring people to review every document to ensure there are no loopholes. Secondly, keep an eye on Richard's legal team, especially the channels they use to contact the outside world. Any acts of obstruction of justice must be recorded immediately."
"I understand." Hans nodded, but he was still a little worried. "But they have too many methods. If they bribe the judge or use other means——"
"We won't give them such an opportunity," Lin En said coldly. "Also, I've contacted the Ministry of Justice and asked them to send someone to monitor the progress of the case. Whether it's the board of directors or the Hallock family, they will pay the price."
Hans looked at Linn and knew the coldness in his tone was genuine. They had been through countless battles like this together, but this time, the situation was clearly more complex than ever. Their opponents weren't ordinary criminals, but members of the elite, possessing immense wealth and power.
A few days later, the FBI convened a high-profile hearing. Richard and Matthew Hallock's legal team was in attendance, and representatives from the board of directors sat in the back row of the conference room. They wore expensive suits and looked confident and indifferent, as if this was a game they were destined to win.
When Lin En walked into the meeting room, everyone's eyes were on him. He was dressed in a standard FBI uniform, his shoulders straight, his gaze sharp and cold. Even facing these so-called elites, his aura was still intimidating.
The legal team was led by a middle-aged man named Victor Kahn. He was known for handling complex cases, especially for helping the powerful exonerate themselves. Victor gave a polite smile, stood up, and shook hands with Lynn, but Lynn simply returned the handshake coolly and sat down.
"Agent Lynn," Victor began, his tone gentle yet provocative. "We acknowledge that this case has attracted significant public attention, but I hope the FBI can handle this matter fairly and impartially, rather than being swayed by public opinion."
Lynn looked at him coldly, her voice low and powerful, "Fairness and justice are exactly what we are doing. The crimes committed by Richard and Matthew Hallock do not need public opinion to drive them. The evidence is sufficient to speak for itself."
"But perhaps you haven't noticed," Victor said with a slight smile, a hint of sarcasm in his tone, "that some of the evidence may not have been obtained in accordance with procedures. For example, how was the surveillance footage retrieved? Was there a clear court order? If not, it could be illegal evidence."
"We followed the procedures completely." Lin En did not give in. "Every piece of evidence has been legally authorized. You can examine it at will, but I guarantee that you won't find any problems."
"I hope so." Victor nodded, obviously not intending to dwell on it any longer.
The meeting lasted two hours, with both sides engaging in a heated exchange over the legality of the evidence. Victor, a skilled debater, attempted to drag the case into a procedural quagmire, thereby slowing the FBI's progress.
But Lynn remained calm and composed, and each counterattack was precise and powerful, rendering Victor's attacks ineffective.
After the meeting, Lin En walked out of the conference room and ran into the board of directors. An older man among them stopped him, his tone full of undeniable pressure. "Agent Lin En, I hope you understand that what you are doing could destroy a company with thousands of employees."
