Chapter 218 Testing
Lisa was clearly intrigued by the question and launched into a rambling recounting of her recent life. She recounted a successful design project, mentioned some recent partners, and complained about minor workplace annoyances. Kate listened intently, nodding in agreement and occasionally offering a quip or two.

Lynn just sat there, occasionally looking up at Kate, but more often than not, his gaze remained on his coffee cup. Lisa's words were like background noise to him. He didn't feel bored or ignored, but simply felt that none of this had anything to do with him.

"Kate, you must come to my room. I brought some of the latest design drafts. By the way, I want to show you the jewelry I bought recently." Lisa suddenly grabbed Kate's hand and said excitedly.

Kate hesitated and looked back at Lynn, "Uh... Lynn, do you mind? I might have to leave for a while."

Lin En shook his head calmly, "Go ahead, I just need to rest here."

Kate's expression was a little apologetic. She smiled and patted Lin's shoulder. "Okay, then don't run too far. Wait for me to come back."

Lin En watched them leave, leaning back in his chair, watching Kate's back disappear at the end of the hotel corridor. He put down his coffee cup, lit a cigarette, and looked through the rising smoke at the sea in the distance.

Rest? Perhaps, but he knew he wasn't good at it. His mind was still racing, even in this vacation environment, his thoughts remained highly alert.

Ten minutes later, Lynn heard something strange.

He heard a quarrel outside the hotel. He frowned, stubbed out his cigarette, and walked towards the sound. When he reached the lobby, he saw a tall man arguing with the hotel security guard. The man looked furious, and his voice was getting louder and louder.

Lin En glanced around and quickly noticed that the man seemed to have a bulge around his waist. He quickly walked forward and approached the security guard. "What happened?"

The security guard looked nervous, clearly intimidated by the man's aura. "He's from outside and seems to have had some trouble with a guest, but he's unwilling to leave."

Lynn glanced at the man with a cold gaze, and said in a low and powerful voice, "Leave here. Now."

The man turned around and seemed stunned when he saw Lin En, but then he showed a disdainful expression, "Who are you? Hotel security or a policeman?"

Lin En stepped closer, his eyes piercing the man's heart like a knife. "No matter who I am, you shouldn't be causing trouble here. I say it again, leave."

The man subconsciously took a step back, but his expression remained tough. He seemed to want to say something, but when Lin En got close enough, he involuntarily raised his hands and slowly backed away. "Okay, okay, I'll go."

After watching the man leave, Lin En turned to the security guard and said, "Next time you encounter this kind of situation, call the police directly."

The security guard nodded, his face full of gratitude, "Thank you, sir."

When Lynn returned to the cafe, Kate and Lisa were walking out of the hotel corridor. Kate was obviously very happy, holding a few of Lisa's design drafts in her hands and excitedly telling her something.

"Lynn!" Kate's voice came through the crowd, and she walked quickly to him. "How long have you been waiting here? I'm sorry, Lisa has too much to show me."

"It's okay." Lin En glanced at her and said calmly, "I just have something to take care of."

Kate frowned, "What is it?"

"Nothing." Lin En replied calmly, "Just a guy causing trouble, it's been resolved."

Kate looked at him with a hint of worry in her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a smile. "Well, it seems you always have a way to solve problems. I'll buy you a drink later as an apology."

Lynn nodded without saying anything more.

As night falls, the streets of Hawaii remain bustling. Aromas waft from street vendors, and tourists, dressed in light summer clothes, stroll in groups of three or four or flock to the brightly lit bars and restaurants. The air is filled with the sound of lively music and the murmuring of distant waves, as if the entire city has fallen into a state of languid relaxation.

Lynn stood outside a low-key bar, his hands in his pockets, his gaze calmly fixed on the neon sign. Kate and Lisa had gone out together a few hours earlier, saying they were "going for a walk on the beach." But Lynn's intuition told him that something was wrong.

He wasn't one to easily doubt others, but something about Lisa made him feel uneasy. Her smile was too forced, and her words seemed to hold something unspoken. Coupled with her sudden disappearance tonight, Lin En's intuition told him that Lisa was hiding a secret.

He pushed open the door of the bar and walked in quietly. The lights in the bar were dim, the air was filled with the smell of alcohol and tobacco, a band was playing lively music in the corner, and several tourists were dancing happily on the dance floor. The atmosphere seemed harmless.

Lin En scanned the room, his gaze quickly locking onto a target like radar. He saw Lisa. She was sitting at the bar, wearing a dress even brighter than she had during the day, her makeup much heavier. She was talking to a man with a professional smile on her face, and the man's hand was resting on her shoulder with malicious intent.

Lin En stood at the door, his brows slightly furrowed. He didn't rush to act, but chose to move to the other side of the bar, ordered a drink, and observed quietly.

Lisa seemed at ease, her fingers gently tracing the rim of the wine glass as she spoke to the man in a tender tone. However, from the occasional flash of her eyes, Lin En caught a glimpse of uneasiness and fatigue. It was not the look of someone enjoying the moment, but the look of someone wearing a mask.

"Why is she here?" Lynn wondered. The things Lisa had discussed with Kate that day seemed to point to a respectable lifestyle. The design work she'd mentioned, her life experiences, all seemed at odds with the scene before her.

A few minutes later, the man seemed to have drunk a little too much, and his movements became more presumptuous, his hands sliding down Lisa's shoulders to her waist. Lisa's smile froze for a moment, as if she wanted to break free, but she didn't want to attract attention, so she could only continue to pretend to be natural.

Lin En's eyes turned cold. He put down his glass, stood up, and walked towards Lisa. His steps were steady and powerful, as if the noise of the entire bar could not disturb his aura.

"Lisa." Lynn's low voice came from behind, interrupting the man's actions.

Lisa's body froze instantly. She turned around suddenly, and when she saw Lynn, the smile on her face instantly disappeared in half, replaced by a complex emotion - surprise, panic, and a hint of shame that was difficult to conceal.

"Lynn? Why are you here?" She forced a smile, trying to hide her awkwardness.

Lynn didn't answer, but looked at the man coldly, her eyes as sharp as a knife, "I need to talk to her. You can leave now."

The man was clearly a bit drunk, but he also saw that Lin En's attitude was unquestionable. He reluctantly stood up, swore something, and staggered away. Lisa frowned and stood up to leave, but was blocked by Lin En.

"What are you doing?" she whispered, a hint of annoyance in her tone. "This is my business, it has nothing to do with you."

"Kate, do you know what you are doing here?" Lynn ignored her rebuttal and asked the question directly, staring at her without blinking.

Lisa's expression changed. Her lips moved as if she was about to protest, but in the end she said nothing. After a moment, she lowered her head and let out a long sigh.

"Alright." Her voice became low and tired. "Since you've seen it, there's no need for me to hide it. Kate doesn't know, and I don't want her to know."

Lynn didn't answer, but just looked at her quietly, waiting for her to continue.

Lisa raised her head, a hint of anger and self-mockery in her eyes. "Do you think I'm the successful designer she mentioned? No, I lost my job a long time ago. My life is a mess. I need money, and this is my only way."

"Drinking companion?" Lynn's voice was emotionless, but it made Lisa subconsciously tense up.

"Yes," Lisa said through gritted teeth. "I work as a bartender, entertaining men, and making enough money to pay off my debts. I have no choice."

Lynn's frown deepened. "You can choose to tell Kate. She'll help you."

"Help me?" Lisa sneered. "Kate is a good person, but she will never understand. She will try to change me, try to 'save' me, but you know what? I don't need her sympathy. I just want to solve these problems myself."

Lin En was silent for a moment, his eyes still calm, but his tone became a little deeper, "Your actions will only put yourself in deeper trouble."

"That's my business, isn't it?" Lisa said with a hint of stubbornness in her tone, "Lynn, I know you and Kate have a good relationship, but I don't need you to control my life."

Lynn didn't say anything else, but reached into his pocket and pulled out a hundred-dollar bill, placing it on the bar. "You don't have to stay here tonight."

Lisa looked at the banknote, her lips moved, and a trace of hesitation flashed in her eyes, but in the end she sighed softly and did not refuse.

"Thank you," she murmured, then picked up her bag and left the bar.

Lin En stood there, watching her figure gradually disappear in the crowd.

The next morning, the Hawaiian sun bathed the entire hotel terrace. Coconut trees swayed gently in the wind, and the gentle rhythmic sound of the waves seemed like some hidden call. Lin En stood on the terrace, a cup of hot coffee in hand, his gaze fixed on the distant ocean. His face remained as calm as ever, but his heart couldn't quite come to terms with the events of the previous night.

Lisa's plea and the words, "Don't tell Kate," lingered in his mind. As a secret agent, he was accustomed to uncovering secrets and revealing the truth. But this time, he faced a completely different situation. Not a criminal, not an enemy, but Kate's friend. Someone in need of help, yet determined to keep Kate from knowing the truth.

"You won't like to know." He whispered to himself to the wind, as if trying to find a reason for his choice.

The sound of the doorbell interrupted his thoughts. He turned and opened the door, seeing Kate standing there with her usual cheerful smile on her face. She was wearing a light blue dress and her hair was casually tied back. She looked more casual than usual, yet still as lively as ever.

"Good morning, Lynn." She raised her hand and waved a bag of fresh bread. "I just picked up some breakfast at the bakery downstairs, and I brought your portion along. I guess you just grabbed some coffee and left, didn't you?"

Lynn glanced at the coffee cup in her hand and nodded slightly, "Good morning. You're up early."

"It's vacation after all. We can't waste such a beautiful morning." Kate walked into the room, went straight to the small table, and put down breakfast. She looked up at Lin En and said tentatively, "Where were you last night? When I came back, you weren't there."

Lin En paused for a moment, but quickly regained his composure and said, "I went out for a walk."

Kate narrowed her eyes at him. "That's a short answer. You're always so mysterious."

"I'm used to it." Lin En's tone was calm, but he didn't look directly at her. He knew that Kate had a sharp intuition, and if he said anything more, it would make her suspicious.

Kate shrugged and didn't ask any more questions. Instead, she opened the paper bag and took out the hot bread. "Okay, I'm not going to torture you. Let's eat something and then decide on our plan for today."

Lynn sat down, his eyes glancing over the bread Kate offered him, but he found it difficult to focus on his breakfast. He wasn't good at lying, and Kate was clearly oblivious to Lisa's condition. This feeling of concealment made him a little uncomfortable, but he also understood that some things had to remain silent.

"Does Lisa have a date today?" Lynn asked casually, trying to test the waters.

Kate took a bite of bread and shook her head. "She said she had no plans for the whole day and probably just wanted to rest in the hotel. I wanted to ask her to go out with me, but she said she wanted to sleep in. Why are you asking this?"

"Nothing." Lynn's answer was clear and crisp, as if he had just mentioned it casually.

Kate tilted her head and looked at him for a few seconds, the corner of her mouth slightly raised, "Lynn, you know what? Sometimes I'm really curious about what's going on in your head. You're always like this, asking questions that seem meaningless, but I know you must be thinking about something complicated."

Lynn didn't answer, but lowered her head and took a sip of coffee.

Kate stared at him for a moment, then suddenly smiled. "Well, I won't disturb your 'deep thoughts'. I've already booked a short trip today. We can take a boat to a nearby island. What do you think?"

Lin En raised his head, looked at her expectant expression, and nodded, "Okay."

Kate's smile widened. "Great! I promise you won't be bored this time."
