Chapter 220 Debt Problem
The boss looked up at her, then glanced at Lin En. His eyes stayed on Lin En for a moment, as if he saw something unusual, but he did not show much emotion.

"Sorry, miss, we don't provide free consultation services here." The boss continued to wipe the cup with a hint of sarcasm in his tone.

Undeterred by his attitude, Kate placed her hands on the bar and moved closer. "We're here to ask about Lisa. She works here, right?"

The boss paused for a moment, then revealed a malicious smile. "Lisa? You mean that pretty blonde girl? She does work here, but I don't think her affairs have anything to do with you."

"Don't talk nonsense." Kate's voice suddenly turned cold, and her eyes were dangerously sharp. "I know her situation is closely related to your bar. She owes money, right? Did you act as a liaison and introduce her to those creditors?"

The boss's expression changed slightly, but he quickly regained his composure. He put down his cup, rested his hands on the bar, and said in a low voice, "Little girl, do you know what you're saying? I'm just a bar owner, earning money to support my family. As for who Lisa owes money to, that's her own business."

Kate was about to retort, but Lynn held out her hand to stop her. Lynn stepped forward, her tone calm and undeniably authoritative. "You know about Lisa's debt problem, and you're also aware that she's been threatened because of it. I don't care what role you played in this matter, but if you continue to hide it, I guarantee you'll be in even more trouble."

The boss's eyes met Lin's, and the smile on his face gradually disappeared. He narrowed his eyes, trying to see through Lin's identity, but in the end he snorted coldly and leaned back.

"Okay, what do you want to know?" he finally spoke, with a hint of impatience in his tone.

"Who's forcing Lisa?" Lin's voice was low and cold. "Who does she owe money to?"

The boss hesitated, obviously reluctant to speak, but under Lin En's suffocating gaze, he finally spoke, "Kavanagh Group. She owed them money, and those people are not easy to deal with."

"How did you get involved?" Kate asked immediately, her eyes filled with anger. "Don't tell me you are completely innocent."

The boss sighed and spread his hands. "She came to me and said she needed money and asked if I could help her. I just gave her an 'opportunity' to work here and earn some extra money. She's an adult now and made her own choice. Don't blame me."

Kate clenched her fists and her tone grew colder. "You knew she had no other choice, and yet you took advantage of her."

Lin En reached out and pressed Kate's shoulder, signaling her to calm down. Then he turned to the boss, his tone still stern, "When will these people come to our door?"

The boss hesitated for a moment and whispered, "In the last two days. They've been pushing us really hard lately, saying they're going to take action if we don't pay you back."

Lin En nodded, then said coldly, "Okay. I hope you remember that if they come here again, you must tell me the first time."

The boss hummed, seeming reluctant, but nodded, "Okay, I'll keep an eye on it."

Kate looked at the boss's expression, her anger still not subsiding, but Lynn's calmness prevented her from continuing to rage. She took a deep breath, pulled Lynn and turned to leave the bar.

Walking down the street, Kate finally couldn't help but speak up, "Lynn, we can't just sit there and wait for death. Those people are really going to attack Lisa."

Lin En's eyes were as steady as ice. He whispered, "I know. So, we must find a more effective way before they take action."

Kate looked him in the eyes and nodded after a moment, "I believe you. But we can't fail, Lynn. Lisa's safety depends on us."

Lynn pursed her lips slightly and said nothing more.

As night fell, Lynn and Kate stood outside an abandoned warehouse. The dim glow of neon lights reflected on the damp ground, creating a dangerous atmosphere. This was the location chosen by the creditors—the Kavanagh Group—for the transaction. Lynn's hands were tucked into the pockets of his windbreaker, his gaze cold and sharp. Beside him, Kate clutched her bag strap. Her face appeared calm, but Lynn knew she was burning with anxiety and anger within.

"Are you sure we can solve the problem this way?" Kate asked in a low voice, with a hint of doubt and uneasiness in her tone. "These people are not the reasonable type."

"There are many ways to solve the problem." Lin En's voice was low and steady, with his usual calmness. "But first, we need to know their bottom line and what tricks they are playing."

Kate nodded, but her fingertips were turning slightly white with nervousness. She had seen Lynn's calmness and decisiveness before, but this was different—this wasn't just any ordinary case, but the predicament her best friend was caught in.

A few minutes later, a man in a dark suit walked out of the warehouse, followed by two tall bodyguards. He had a fake smile on his face, and his professional indifference made it clear at a glance how dangerous he was.

"Are you here to pay off Lisa's debt?" the man asked with a hint of mockery, looking up and down at Lynn and Kate.

"Yes." Lin En's voice was calm and firm. He took out a briefcase from his windbreaker and handed it to the other party. "Here is 25,000 US dollars, in full. I hope that after you take the money, you will let her go completely."

The man didn't rush to take the briefcase. Instead, he sneered. "Twenty-five thousand dollars? That's indeed the amount Lisa owes, but it's not that simple, my friend. We've helped her extend the deadline several times and even put in a lot of effort to 'remind' her. I think the current value of this debt is no longer something that twenty-five thousand dollars can resolve."

Kate's eyes widened, her tone filled with suppressed anger. "What are you talking about? You clearly know her situation, yet you're still raising the price?"

The man turned his head and glanced at Kate, a malicious smile on his lips. "Business is business, sweetheart. Do you think we are doing charity?"

"Don't waste your time talking to her." Lynn interrupted him, her voice as low as ice. "How much do you want?"

The man's expression instantly turned greedy, with a sly glint in his eyes. "Fifty thousand."

"Fifty thousand?" Kate almost shouted out uncontrollably, "Are you crazy? You're blackmailing me!"

The man shrugged, looking innocent. "Whatever you say, fifty thousand is the current price. If you don't want to pay it back, then let Lisa continue 'working'. Maybe she can earn something for us."

Kate's face turned pale with anger. She was about to charge forward to argue, but Lin En raised a hand to stop her. His movement was small, but it carried an undeniable force. "We won't give you fifty thousand." Lin En's tone remained calm, but his voice was as low as suppressed thunder. "You've already taken enough benefits. If you don't accept twenty-five thousand, then you won't get a cent of the money."

The man's smile disappeared. He narrowed his eyes and looked at Lynn coldly, "Are you threatening me, friend? Do you know who you are talking to?"

"I know." Lin En stared back at him without flinching, her eyes as cold as a knife. "I also know that you guys have no intention of letting Lisa leave. Even if we gave her fifty thousand, you would find other excuses to continue pestering her."

The man's expression changed. He obviously didn't expect Lin En to see through him so clearly. He slowly clenched his hands and then signaled the bodyguard behind him to step forward.

"My friend, I don't like your attitude." The man's voice became low and dangerous. "We have to follow the rules, but if you insist on causing trouble, we won't be polite."

The bodyguard took a step closer to Lin En, his tall figure casting a shadow over him. But Lin En didn't even blink, his hand had already moved silently to his waist.

Kate saw this scene and immediately realized that the atmosphere was tense. Her heartbeat accelerated and she forced herself to calm down, "Wait! Don't do it!"

She stood next to Lynn and tried to lighten the mood. "We can talk—twenty-five thousand is all we can raise. If you raise the price any more, it will only complicate things. We're not here to cause trouble, we just want to solve the problem."

The man glanced at Kate, seeming to appreciate her gesture, but his tone was still threatening, "Sweetheart, no one in this world can get anything for free. You must pay the price."

"Price?" Lin En sneered, his voice low and cold. "Then why not try a price you can afford?"

His hand was already firmly on the handle of the gun, and his eyes were cold enough to make people shudder. The two bodyguards had obviously noticed Lin En's actions, and they looked at each other, as if to confirm their next move.

The scene suddenly became depressing, and the air seemed to be filled with a tense sense of danger.

The man was silent for a few seconds, and finally gave a stiff smile. "Well, my friend, it seems you are very courageous. But you'd better remember that we don't survive just by scaring people."

He waved his hand, signaling the bodyguards to withdraw, then took the document bag from Lin En and opened it. "Twenty-five thousand...you're lucky. We'll take this money and from now on, we'll write off all our debts with Lisa."

"You'd better remember what you said." Lin En's tone was still suffocatingly cold. "If I hear you causing trouble for Lisa again, I will make you regret your decision today."

The man's smile gradually faded, and he looked at Lin En with a gloomy look, but in the end he said nothing. He turned and walked into the warehouse, followed by two bodyguards, and slammed the door shut.

Kate stood there, took a deep breath, and tried to calm her inner tension. She turned to look at Lin En and found that his expression was still calm, but his eyes were filled with an unquestionable determination.

"Lynn..." Kate said softly, "Thank you. If it weren't for you, I don't know what I would do."

Lynn glanced at her and said calmly, "This matter is not over yet. Lisa is safe now, but I don't believe these people will stop here."

Kate nodded, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes. "Anyway, I'm grateful for your help. Lisa's fate can't be ruined by these people."

Lynn didn't answer, but just looked deeply in the direction of the warehouse, then turned and left.

Late at night, Lynn and Kate finally returned to the hotel. The lights in the lobby were dim and soft, with only the front desk attendant yawning. The corridor was deserted and unusually quiet. Kate walked beside Lynn without saying a word, her face filled with fatigue and mixed emotions, making her look a little uneasy.

"Are you okay?" Lynn asked in a low voice, breaking the silence. He glanced at Kate with a rare tenderness in his tone.

Kate stopped and leaned against the wall in the corridor, taking a deep breath. "I don't know. Those people just now were complete assholes. I can't believe Lisa faced it alone for so long... How much pressure must she have been under, Lynn? I can't even imagine."

Lin En looked at her with a complicated look in her eyes. "Lisa has indeed endured a lot, but she is safe now. This is the most important thing."

Kate nodded, but tears welled up in her eyes. "I just... I just feel like I've missed so much. She was my best friend, but I knew nothing. She's been through so much, and I didn't realize it until now. Lynn, this makes me feel like a terrible friend."

"You're already doing everything you can." Lynn's voice was low and firm, as if trying to calm her heart. "Sometimes, people don't say it because they don't want others to see their vulnerability. You're not a bad friend, Kate. Lisa needs time. She needs to know that someone supports her."

Kate pursed her lips and sniffed, "You're right. I can't let her go on like this. She needs a change, a fresh start."

Lin En didn't say anything else, just nodded. The two continued walking towards the room.

When they returned to Lisa's room, the door was ajar, a light streaming through. Kate knocked, then opened it and walked in, followed by Lynn. The air in the room was heavy. Lisa sat by the window, her hands on her knees, her head lowered to the floor. She didn't seem to hear them come in.

"Lisa." Kate called her softly, walked over to her and sat on the edge of the bed.

Lisa raised her head, her eyes red, obviously she had just been crying. She tried to force a smile, but it seemed extremely forced. "You're back."

"We've solved your debt problem," Kate said bluntly, her tone firm and unyielding. "You don't need to worry about those people causing trouble for you anymore."

Lisa's eyes widened for a moment, then she lowered her head and muttered, "You shouldn't have interfered... This is none of your business. I was planning to handle it myself."

"You can't solve this, Lisa." Kate's tone suddenly became fierce, with a mixture of anger and heartache. "You face these bastards alone? With your body, with your dignity? Do you know how far these people will push you? You don't stand a chance!"
