Chapter 230 Never Surrender
Chapter 230 Never Surrender
Lynn nodded and quickly issued an order: "Notify the city authorities immediately, block the Manhattan Bridge, and conduct a comprehensive inspection on the bridge. We cannot take any risks."
Lynn and Carter led a special forces team to the Manhattan Bridge. A cordon had been set up on the bridge, and vehicles and pedestrians had been cleared. The atmosphere was tense and suffocating.
"Check every inch from beginning to end, especially the key structural parts of the bridge." Lynn ordered.
The search lasted nearly an hour, and finally a complex bomb device was found on the structural platform under the bridge. The bomb was carefully hidden and connected to the bridge's load-bearing steel cables.
"Inspector, this bomb is more complex than the previous ones," the technician reported. "It's a multi-point detonation device. Once activated, the entire bridge will collapse."
"Can it still be demolished?" Lynn asked.
"Yes, but it will take time, at least an hour." The technician replied with a nervous tone.
"Speed up." Lin En said, and asked others to be more vigilant.
As the technical team worked hard to dismantle the bomb, gunshots were heard from the other side of the bridge. Lynn and Carter rushed to the scene and found a group of men in black trying to break through the blockade.
"Protect the technical team! Stop them!" Lin En ordered loudly.
Gunshots instantly echoed across the bridge, and a fierce exchange of fire broke out between the two sides. Lynn and Carter led the team to defend their position, but the attacks of the men in black became more and more frantic.
As time passed, the technical team finally completed the removal of the last bomb fuse.
"Demolition complete!" the technician shouted.
Lynn breathed a sigh of relief, but then noticed that one of the men in black raised a remote control and tried to activate the backup device.
"We can't let him press it!" Lynn yelled.
He rushed towards the man and fired a precise shot, hitting him in the arm and causing the remote control to fall to the ground.
Seeing the situation was not good, the men in black quickly retreated. Lin En did not pursue them, but only felt relieved after confirming that the bomb had been completely defused.
The explosion crisis was resolved, but Lin En did not feel relieved at all. He knew that this was just another test by the Rose Lord, and the real action was still hidden in the dark.
"This battle is far from over," Lynn whispered, looking at the Manhattan skyline. "They want to destroy this city, and I will never let them succeed."
The atmosphere in the interrogation room was as cold and solemn as ice. Lin En sat at the table, holding a stack of photos in his hands. These photos were of all the targets in the previous cases who had been ruled out as suspects but still had suspicious points.
Daniel sat opposite, his hands handcuffed on the table, with a sneer of disdain on his face. He seemed completely unconcerned with Lin's actions, and even seemed a little relaxed.
"Let's play a game, Daniel." Lynn said in a low voice, placing the first photo on the table. "Do you know this person?"
Daniel glanced at it and sneered: "I don't know him."
Lin En's expression didn't change. He took out a second photo and placed it next to the first one. "What about this one?"
Daniel was still disdainful: "Inspector, do you think I'm hosting a party? How could I possibly know all your suspects?"
Lin En's eyes remained stern as he placed the third, fourth, and fifth photos on the table. Some of these people were the main suspects from before, while others were people they had come into contact with during the investigation but whose identities could not be fully confirmed.
"You're so patient." Daniel looked at the growing number of photos and said contemptuously, "Inspector, are you too idle?"
Lin En ignored his provocation and continued to put down the sixth and seventh photos until the last one. He arranged the photos in a row, tapping his fingers lightly on the table. His voice was cold and cold: "Each of these people has had some connection to the serial murder case. You really don't know them?"
Daniel's smile froze for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure. He raised his head and said in a mocking tone, "Inspector, are you amusing yourself? These people are just a bunch of strangers to me."
Lin En stared into his eyes and suddenly sneered, her tone low but powerful: "You lied."
Daniel's expression changed slightly, but he quickly concealed it: "Why do you say that?"
Lin En approached him, her tone even colder: "Because the look in your eyes just now betrayed you. When I put the last photo down, your smile disappeared. You were nervous and guilty."
Daniel gritted his teeth and tried to remain calm. "Inspector, did the psychologist teach you to do this? Don't waste your time. I still say the same thing - I don't know him."
Lin En didn't stop and continued, "These people are not individuals. They are your accomplices and part of the conspiracy behind this serial murder case. You are an organization, and you are just a pawn in it."
Daniel's expression finally changed. His eyes went from disdainful to gloomy, and cold sweat began to form on his forehead, but he still tried to force a smile. "Inspector, are you making this up? I don't remember having so many 'friends'."
"Really?" Lin En said coldly, pointing to one of the photos. "What about him? Are you sure you don't know him? We have surveillance footage showing that you and him had multiple interactions in the abandoned industrial area."
Daniel was completely silent.
Lin En pressed on, his tone cold. "Tell me, who is the Rose Overlord? What is your plan? I already know that all these people are involved. From now on, I will capture them one by one until your entire organization is uprooted."
Daniel's lips trembled slightly, as if he was weighing whether to speak. His eyes quickly scanned the photos on the table, and finally he took a deep breath and whispered, "You think you can stop everything by arresting me? How naive."
"So you admit it?" Lin En's eyes were like blades.
Daniel didn't answer directly. Instead, he raised his head and said in a complicated tone, "We are not the bad people you think. Everything we do is to make the world wake up."
"Killing people and causing panic is the way to be sane?" Lin En asked coldly, "Your justice is a trampling on innocent lives."
"Innocent?" Daniel chuckled. "Inspector, you don't know what these people are really like. Their disguises are so perfect that even the law can't touch them. We just peeled off their masks."
"What about the Rose Lord?" Lin En pressed again, "Who is he? He's your leader, right?"
Daniel's eyes flashed with hesitation, but he finally shook his head: "I'm sorry, Inspector, even if you catch me, you will never catch him. He is smarter and more powerful than you think."
Lin En sneered, his eyes as cold as ice. "Then let's give it a try. He can hide, but he can never escape the hand of justice." Daniel stopped talking, his expression returning to a cold one. But Lin En knew that he had wavered, and the secret of the Rose Lord was getting closer and closer to the truth.
Lynn stood in the center of the FBI's Manhattan operations conference room. Before him was a large electronic screen displaying the files and recent movements of several suspected mutants. He swiped his finger across the screen, pointing to the targets marked "high priority surveillance" one by one.
"Some of these people must be core members of the Rose Lord," Lin En said in a stern tone, his eyes piercing. "They have been very secretive in past serial murders, but we already have enough clues. This time, we won't give them any chances."
Carter, standing next to him, added, "The technical department has stepped up monitoring of these targets. Each one has an action team tracking and recording them around the clock. If we detect any anomalies, we will take immediate action."
"Very good." Lin En nodded. "Remember, our goal is not only to capture him, but more importantly, to force out the Rose Overlord's true identity. Any abnormal behavior could be a breakthrough."
Two days later, the monitoring team sent back key intelligence.
A mutant target, codenamed "Shadow Snake," has been exhibiting unusual behavior. He excels at stealth and disguise, using his mutant abilities to conceal himself in the shadows. Surveillance footage showed him leaving his residence late at night, not at his usual entertainment venue, but instead heading to an abandoned warehouse in Brooklyn with a package.
After receiving the news, Lin En immediately summoned Carter and a team and headed straight for the target location. They monitored Shadow Snake's movements in real time on the way and found that he stayed near the warehouse for a while and then entered a secluded residential area.
"He may be preparing for his next action." Carter whispered, his eyes fixed on the surveillance screen.
Lin En ordered: "Speed up, we have to catch up before he makes a move."
When Lin En led the team to the scene, Shadow Snake was standing in front of a half-open warehouse door, holding a sharp dagger in his hand. His eyes were cold, as if he had noticed something strange around him.
"Shadow Snake! Put down your weapons and raise your hands!" Lin En held up the gun, his voice full of majesty.
Shadow Snake glanced back at Lin En, a sneer on his face: "Inspector Lin En, you're quicker than I thought. But, what do you think you can prevent today?"
"This killing game is over," Lin En said coldly, continuing to advance. "You've already revealed too many flaws. Surrender now and you might still have a chance to survive."
Shadow Snake sneered, "Surrender? Do you really think you can catch us? Rose's purification is unstoppable."
After saying this, he suddenly threw the dagger at Lin En, and the blade drew a cold light in the air. Lin En nimbly dodged sideways, but Shadow Snake took the opportunity to turn around and quickly disappeared into the shadows deep in the warehouse.
"He's starting to use his powers!" Carter warned.
"Stay alert." Lynn whispered, raised the flashlight, and searched forward carefully.
The warehouse was dark and damp, and Shadow Snake's ability made him seem to blend in with the environment, making him difficult to capture. Suddenly, Lin En felt a cold breeze behind him. He quickly turned and blocked a sneak attack with the butt of his gun.
Shadow Snake emerged from the darkness, the other dagger in his hand pointed directly at Lin En's chest. The two instantly tangled together, and the blade and the gun handle made a sharp collision sound.
Shadow Snake's strength and agility far surpassed those of an ordinary person. His movements were as swift as a venomous snake, and each attack went straight to the vital point. Although Lin En defended well, he still felt the strong pressure.
"You think you can win this game?" Shadow Snake sneered as he attacked. "We've infiltrated every corner, Inspector Linn. You've only seen the tip of the iceberg."
Lin En did not respond, but took advantage of the moment when Shadow Snake attacked and seized the opportunity to kick him in the waist. Shadow Snake staggered back, but soon disappeared into the shadows again.
"Don't let him escape!" Lynn shouted.
Carter led the team to quickly surround the warehouse exit, while using thermal imaging equipment to scan for Shadow Snake's location. An agent spotted his tracks: "In the southeast corner!"
Lin En quickly rushed over and started a fierce fight with Shadow Snake again. This time, Lin En used the debris in the warehouse to block Shadow Snake's movement route and used the strong light of the tactical flashlight to pierce his concealment ability.
Shadow Snake was forced to reveal himself, the sneer on his face vanishing, replaced by a hint of anxiety. He tried to attack again with his dagger, but Lynn subdued him with a grappling move and kicked his weapon aside.
"The game is over," Lynn said coldly, putting the handcuffs on Shadow Snake's wrists.
Just as Lin En was about to take Shadow Snake away, an urgent call from the technical team came through his headset: "Inspector, Shadow Snake's communication device just received an encrypted message from the Rose Lord."
"What's the content?" Lynn asked.
"'Evacuation plan activated. All targets switched to Phase 2 operations.'" The technician's voice was urgent. "Inspector, they may be executing another plan!"
Lin En's face darkened, and his eyes were like knives as he stared at the shadow snake pinned to the ground: "What is the Rose Overlord's plan? What does the second phase of the operation refer to?"
Shadow Snake raised his head, sneered and spat out a mouthful of blood: "You think that by catching me, you can stop everything? No, Inspector. You have just begun."
Lin En's heart trembled. He knew that this duel was far from over.
the other side.
Kate sat at her desk, piled with documents and old newspapers. Ever since she learned that the "red rose" had become a symbol of serial murders, she had dove into historical archives, hoping to find background information related to this symbol. As she flipped through old news reports, a headline suddenly caught her eye:
"The Roar of the Red Rose: The Rise and Fall of a Persecuted Workers' Organization"
Kate quickly read the article and discovered that the Red Rose's history was full of tragedy and resistance. The organization was once a workers' union in the early 20th century, whose members were mainly low-income workers. They opposed capitalist exploitation and oppression and advocated for workers' rights.
However, as the group's influence grew, they were seen as a threat by some in power. Several members were arrested, disappeared, and even assassinated. Ultimately, the group was dismantled in a bloody crackdown, and the survivors disappeared into obscurity and history.
"The rose symbolizes sacrifice, defiance, and secrets. The mark of the red rose was once their symbol, representing a vow never to surrender." This is the last sentence of the article.
Kate's heart was pounding as her fingers traced the words: "They may not have completely disappeared, but may continue to exist in some form until now."
She immediately picked up her phone and dialed Lynn's number.
Lynn was interrogating Shadow Snake. When his cell phone rang, he glanced at the caller ID and picked up the phone immediately.
