"That's our target." Lin En circled the mountain area on the map. "They might be hiding there."

Mark nodded, hope rekindled on his face: "Then let's go. Let those people know that no matter where they run to, we will find them."

Lynn and Mark began their own investigation into the experimental organization's backup facility. This risky move was not approved by their superiors and even caused some controversy within the FBI. Although they carefully covered their tracks, their actions were still discovered by several colleagues, causing quite a stir.

"Lynn, what the hell are you doing?" One morning, Eric, a senior agent, walked straight into Lynn's office with dissatisfaction written all over his face. "You've bypassed your superiors and are doing something you shouldn't be doing. This is not only dangerous, it could ruin your career!"

Lynn raised her head, her eyes calm and firm. "Eric, you know this is necessary. If we don't continue to investigate, this organization will continue to kidnap innocent people and destroy more families."

Eric sneered. "Necessary? We all know this case is complicated, but without authorization from your superiors, every step you take is risky! If something goes wrong, no one can bear the consequences for you."

"Then I'll take it on myself." Lin En's tone was calm, but full of determination. "If you can't accept it, you can choose to withdraw, but please don't interfere with my actions."

Eric was stunned, then shook his head and left the office. His attitude made Lin En feel a little heavy, but he knew that in the pursuit of justice, there would always be times when he was not understood.

When Lynn was sorting out the documents, Mark pushed the door open, looked at Eric who was leaving, and then walked to Lynn's desk.

"Is he questioning you again?" Mark asked, with a hint of anger in his tone.

"It's okay." Lin En shook his head and put the documents into his briefcase. "It's normal to have doubts. After all, what we are doing is beyond the norm."

"But they don't understand your persistence at all." Mark pulled out a chair and sat down, his face full of support. "I don't care what others think, but I know you are right. No matter how difficult it is next, I will follow you."

Lynn looked at Mark and smiled with relief: "Thank you, Mark. I feel very lucky to have a partner like you."

The two continued to study the logistics lists and geographical data they had found previously, and through cross-analysis, they finally locked their target on a remote mountainous area about 50 miles from the nearest town, surrounded by only a small amount of undeveloped forest and a few abandoned mine tunnels.

"If they're really here, we need to be careful," Lin En said, pointing to the map. "This mountainous area is easy to defend and difficult to penetrate. They may have set up strict security."

Mark nodded. "We need more equipment and support. But without formal authorization, we have to rely on ourselves."

Lin En thought for a moment and took out a list of equipment. "We can still draw on some resources from previous operations, but we need to keep a low profile to avoid attracting attention."

The two men spent several days preparing the necessary equipment and tools, including drones, thermal imaging monitors, and sufficient supplies. Despite the high risk of the operation, they did not back down.

On the night of the operation, Lynn and Mark drove an SUV disguised as a field exploration vehicle slowly into the mountains. They parked in a hidden bush, launched the drone, and began to scan the surrounding terrain.

The drone's camera showed signs of human activity in the target area, with some simple tents and hidden vehicles indicating some sort of long-term activity going on there.

"It seems our speculation is correct." Lin En whispered, "But this is just the periphery. We still need to find the entrance to the facility."

The two entered the target area on foot, carefully searching with the help of night vision goggles and thermal imaging detectors. They bypassed several areas full of surveillance and finally found some traces at the entrance of an abandoned mine.

"There are tire tracks on the ground here, the closest one." Mark pointed to the mine entrance and said, "This might be their transportation route."

Lin En nodded: "Let's go in and take a look."

After the two entered the mine, they found that the lights inside were dim, but the walls were clean, obviously someone used it frequently. They carefully followed the tire tracks and finally came to a metal door.

Lin En knocked on the door gently and heard a faint electrical sound coming from inside. "There might be an alarm system here," he said.

"What should we do then?" Mark asked.

"We can only take a risk." Lynn took out the toolbox and used a portable decoder to crack the door lock. After a few minutes, the metal door slowly opened.

Behind the door was a long corridor, with complex circuits and instruments lining the walls. It was clearly a high-tech facility. Lynn and Mark carefully sneaked in, trying to find valuable clues.

They eventually entered a laboratory and found a large number of data terminals and experimental equipment. Mark immediately began taking pictures and recording every detail of the scene.

Lynn walked over to a console and saw a screen displaying a series of genetic sequences and subject numbers, noting that several of the numbers matched Allen's parents' records.

"This place is indeed related to Alan's parents." Lynn whispered, "But we need more evidence."

As they continued their search, they heard hurried footsteps in the corridor. They quickly turned off their flashlights and hid behind the lab table.

Several guards entered the lab and began inspecting the equipment. Lynn and Mark held their breath, waiting for a chance to escape. But one of the guards suddenly stopped, as if he had noticed something.

"Someone has moved here." The guard whispered, "Notify our superiors immediately."

Lynn realized that he could not delay any longer, so he gestured to Mark to prepare to break out. The moment the guard turned around, Lynn quickly stood up and knocked down the closest person with the tranquilizer gun in his hand, while Mark used a smoke bomb to create chaos.

The two took advantage of the chaos to rush out of the laboratory and quickly evacuate along the same route they came in. Although the alarms behind them were getting closer and closer, they finally managed to escape the mine.

"We can't come back, but at least we have some important clues," Lynn said breathlessly. Mark nodded. Although he was tired, his eyes were still full of fighting spirit. "This is just the beginning. We are getting closer and closer to the truth."

After returning to the temporary base, Lynn backed up all the collected data and began analyzing it.

After Lin and Mark returned to their temporary base, they immediately began analyzing the data they had brought back from the experimental organization's backup facility. Although the data was incomplete, it still contained many experimental records and personnel lists. Lin opened a file and his brows furrowed.

"Mark, here are the names of Alan's parents," Lynn said, pointing to a line of data on the screen. "Katherine Miller and George Miller. They are marked as 'core experimental subjects' and appear to be part of some special plan."

Mark walked over and looked at the screen, his tone a little excited: "This proves that they are still alive, right? Since they are core experimental subjects, they should be protected first."

"Perhaps." Lynn sighed softly, "But their exact location is still unknown. And look at these names—" He moved his mouse over another part of the file, "There are hundreds of unidentified people here, all 'experimental subjects'."

Mark frowned. "Hundreds? That's far beyond our previous estimate. These people may all be victims who were kidnapped or forced to participate in experiments."

Lynn nodded: "This means that the scale of the experimental organization is even larger than we thought. Finding Alan's parents is certainly important, but we can't ignore others. They also need to be rescued."

The two continued to look through the data and found that behind these names were some numbers and code names of experimental projects. Lynn noticed that some of the numbers were related to an experiment called "Project Epsilon", and these experiments seemed to be concentrated in a secret facility in Manhattan.

"Looks like we need to bring this data back to Manhattan." Lynn saved the file to an encrypted hard drive. "We need more resources to decrypt this content, and Manhattan may be the center of their next operation."

Mark nodded. "Then let's go. We've stayed here too long. Sooner or later, the experimental organization will find out that the data has been taken away."

The two quickly packed up their equipment, hid the data drive in a hidden compartment in their car, and set off back to Manhattan. Along the way, Lynn's mind kept replaying the names of the missing and Allen's innocent face. He knew this investigation wasn't just for Allen's family, but also for the innocent victims.

After returning to Manhattan, Lynn and Mark immediately handed the hard drive to the technical department, hoping to decrypt more data as soon as possible through more advanced equipment. However, their actions did not completely avoid the surveillance of the experimental organization.

A few hours later, Lin En received an anonymous call. The voice of the other party was low and cold: "Inspector, it seems that you have taken something you shouldn't have. If you are smart, you should return the data."

"I don't know what you're talking about." Lynn said calmly, but he was alert inside.

"Don't play dumb, Lynn." The other party sneered, "We know every move you make. If you continue to go deeper, it will not only be you and your team that will be in trouble, but also those you care about, such as that female reporter who likes to dig up the truth everywhere."

Hearing Kate being mentioned, Lin En's eyes instantly became sharp: "If you dare to touch a hair on her head, I promise you will regret it."

The other party was silent for a while, then whispered, "That depends on whether you have the ability." The phone was then hung up.

Lin En put down the phone, his face darkening. He immediately contacted Kate to confirm her safety. Kate, clearly sensing Lin En's nervousness, tried to reassure him with a lighthearted tone: "Don't worry, I'm safe here. But you, don't bear all the pressure alone."

"Kate, this is not a joke." Lynn's tone was filled with anxiety. "They may have noticed you. I need you to keep a low profile for the time being and avoid going out alone."

Kate was silent for a moment, and finally agreed to his request: "Okay, I will be careful. But if you need any help, don't forget to tell me."

After hanging up the phone, Lin En took a deep breath and refocused his attention on the investigation. He knew that this experimental organization was no longer just a hidden enemy, but a threat that could launch a counterattack against him and those around him at any time.

The technical department received news that the decryption work had made progress. They found an experimental report that detailed the purpose of the "Epsilon Project": to enhance the physical abilities of ordinary people through gene editing technology, giving them abilities similar to those of mutants.

"This is their goal," Mark said angrily, looking at the report. "Not only are they exploiting mutants, they're also trying to weaponize this technology for their own use."

Lin En pondered for a moment and pointed to a portion of the data in the report. "And they've already achieved some results. There's a group of 'successful cases' mentioned here, which seem to be experimental subjects that have completed the transformation."

"A successful case?" Mark frowned. "Could these people be the missing persons who suddenly vanished?"

"It's very likely." Lin En nodded, "And if they really succeeded, these people may have been transformed into dangerous weapons."

Realizing the seriousness of the situation, the two immediately contacted some trusted colleagues and formed a small team to prepare to raid the Manhattan facility mentioned in the report. This was their only chance to find more clues about Allen's parents and prevent the further expansion of the experimental organization.

On the eve of the operation, Lynn sat alone in his office, repeatedly checking the names of the missing persons. His fingers stopped at the names of Catherine and George Miller, and he silently vowed in his heart that no matter what the cost, he would find them and bring them back to Allen.

In the evening, when Lin En came out of the office, he found Kate leaning against his car, holding two cups of coffee in her hands, looking at him with a smile. The afterglow of the setting sun shone on her face, making her smile look particularly warm.

"Why are you here?" Lin En was a little surprised, but a feeling of relief surged in his heart.

"I was passing by here and thought you must still be busy, so I brought some coffee." Kate handed over a cup of coffee and said with a smile, "But I think you seem to need more than just coffee."

Lin En took the coffee and smiled bitterly: "You're right, I do feel a little breathless."

"Then let's take a walk." Kate pointed to the park at the end of the street. "Isn't there a small park here? No matter how stressful your work is, you need to give yourself some breathing space."

Lin En looked at his watch and wanted to refuse, but when he saw Kate's eyes, he couldn't help but nodded: "Okay, you win."

The two walked into the park. The air was filled with the fragrance of flowers and plants. Their feet were on a path covered with fallen leaves. They were surrounded by children playing and elderly people taking a rest. Everything seemed so peaceful, in stark contrast to the tense atmosphere Lin En had recently experienced.
